Service was fantastic and food and drinks were outstanding!
Arrived early and took a seat at the bar. Conversations with bartenders were great. They educated us on their drinks as well as their house made spirits. Watched them make a “smoked” drink and then tasted the end product. Wow. Our meals were very good. We ordered several apps versus meals-not disappointed at all. Staff were attentive but left us be in between checking on us.
Our only complaint is that they began sweeping a section of the dining room in order to move some tables. Kind of yucky seeing what had been left on the floor from the past cleaning.
Service was EXTREMELY slow. We waited over an hour for our meals. We were there at 7pm, and when we ordered, many entrees on the menu were already sold out. I tried to get the seafood of the day, but since it was sold out I picked the grilled vegetable salad. What a waste! It was pretty much a bag of mixed greens with a few pieces of grilled vegetables on top. Ridiculous for $20.
Ken Volz was great!! Needs baffles to control noise level
Delicious osso bucco. The barrel old fashioned is a winner, too! And the duck wings.
I really enjoy Barrel’s happy hour and recently tried their brunch for the first time and was so happy with it. Everyone was so pleasant. The food and drinks were delicious!
Food excellent, good service. Seems expensive given central PA. VERY loud.
The menu on open table is not the same as what is in the restaurant. It was disappointing to not be able to get what was on the open table menu.
The menu is great but the food took a long time to be served >30 minutes and was lukewarm when it arrived
Great menus, service and follow-up. Nicely designed dining areas and restrooms.
Odd menu items seems out of place in a college town.
My wife and I met with two other couples for dinner. The happy hour is the best around and the drinks superb. We had parmesan fries which were very good. My wife and I ordered OLD FASHIONED MARINATED TERES MAJOR dinner menu item. She had medium rare/I ordered medium. Both were very fatty and my wife disliked the sauce. I thought the sauce was fine, but the meat was too chewy. The dessert (Mascarpone Cheesecake) we had was absolutely delicious.
The ambiance is wonderful with a very upscale but relaxed feel. Well done. Our server did well.
This was our first time at Barrel 21, will certainly return. Food was excellent and service also great.
Perfect variety of food for brunch- not too few options but not overwhelming. Food was delicious. The Nutella French toast and the grits were excellent. The wait staff was super friendly and accommodating.
Christmas with family
Great food and charming atmosphere
Brad, our waiter was wonderful, giving us some great recommendations that did not disappointment! Food was amazing!!!
Very disappointing experience. Newer menu lacking in variety and more affordable options. All 3 of our dinners were either over or under cooked and service was mediocre at best. This used to be my go-to restaurant in state college, but no more.
First time patron. Food and service excellent. Will definitely return.
Great local ingredients and fantastic new chef! Our dinner was amazing from start to finish.
Barrel 21 has new chef and two new menus. Appetizers and Meals are creative and tasty.
We ate in the bar area, but it is on the loud side at the dining tables too. Nice menu, not extensive but something for meat eaters and non! My husband had a pork dish that he said was delicious. I had a salad special and it was very good. We started with the cheese board. That with a cup of soup could have been called dinner, generous portions. We will be back.
Seated promptly, excellent food and service. Entrees could have been a little warmer.
Enjoyed our experience. We will be back
Tuesday burger night, coupled with happy hour prior!
The brunch is on the pricier side but well worth it, with high quality food that changes weekly, carving station, and omelette bar, which you customize on a card that your waiter/waitress picks up and delivers. Unlimited OJ fountain is a huge plus too. MUST TRY for regular Brunchers.
My waiter Kyle was fantastic. The brunch setup was great. Everything we ate was great.
Loved our dinner.. we came with our family and everyone enjoyed. We will definitely be coming back.
Had the filets with the family and a couple of the craft beers. Very good, second time there and we love it.
Tried this for Sunday brunch which was OK. We hope to try again for the dinner menu next time.
Excellent food. Service a little slow, but we didn’t mind it.
Family weekend at penn state
Amazing cocktails. Modern menu and setting. Food a little too rich for our tastes.
Had the Cajun Shrimp on our last visit and the Vegan Empanadas the time before. Both were Awesome! Good service, great food, excellent beers and interesting cocktails. Nice!
Highly recommended Sunday brunch. Food was absolutely amazing!!! Bloody Mary bar was a fun twist. Did not disappoint.
Great vibe and ambiance, still hopping for dinner reservations at 9 pm with live entertainment. Smaller menu but delicious.
Fun atmosphere! Food delicious!! Recommended! Live music was awesome too!
A great new find in State College after years of dining at Spats which closed this year. The hostess is the best in town.
Pleasantly surprised. Limited menu but enjoyed everything. Loved their drinks. Try their own vodka and gin. Good flavor. Would go back
