Inspired by its namesake, Barranco’s menu offers seafood, family-style tapas and a select number of main dishes. In addition to a ceviche bar, Barranco’s menu features bocaditos (small bites) such as Scallops Carlitos and Langostinos Crocantes (prawns), grilled anticuchos (meat skewers), pollo a la brasa (traditional Peruvian rotisserie chicken), classic Peruvian sandwiches, an assortment of delectable sides and, for dessert, Alfajores, the popular Latin-American artisanal cookies.
Barranco’s beverage program features pisco, the traditional spirit of Peru.
Service was excellent!
Great selection of foods....nice flavors to everything we tried...great spot for lunch with friends!
The noise level was tolerable inside only because the restaurant was not full. We usually prefer to eat outside but it was a little cold last night. The food was fantastic as always.
We LOVE Barranco! The food was amazing and the service was perfect. Our favorite Lafayette restaurant for sure!!
Enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. We enjoyed the bottomless Sangria, Costillitas, Empanadas, and Tequenos. The Pork Belly was disappointing because the fat was not cooked enough and so was too fatty. There was a shortage of seafood which was due to PG&E power outage. The friendly staff more than made up for it.
The amazing food did not make up for the complete lack of service. We had to ask for water several times. We asked to have the food staggered it arrived all at once, including a plate of fries we didn’t order. They kept trying to serve the firs to our table. Not surprisingly the fries were on the bill. the Service should be excellent for the prices they charge. It is not worth your time or money.
Nice meal with excellent service. Restaurant was vert noisy. however, we ate outside which was delightful and very quite.
Fantastic experience!! This was a 25th anniversary gift and the recipients raved about the food and service. They felt spoiled and enjoyed every sip and bite!
Have had several dinners at Barranco and the staff and food never disappoint!
Food is interesting and the menu offers variety for every taste.
Outdoor seating is comfortable and an escape from the noise inside.
I have eaten at Barranco many times since it opened, and it used to be one of my favorite restaurants and a place to introduce friends to Peruvian food. In the past few months the food has undergone a major decline in taste. I used to love their salsa and paella, and since they hired a new chef, they are a disappointment. The paella is bland and the salsa lacks the "punch" it once had. I used to love the chicharrones, and now they are flavorless, need a major dousing of lemon, and are too "bready," much of which, ends up on my plate. The ceviche continues to be a favorite, and the service by the waiters is always outstanding--attentive and accommodating. The people who bus the tables are not very personable or friendly.
Great food, including a variety of delicious empanada. We had a group of 9, and service was excellent. We all enjoyed our meals.
This was our second visit...and we should have come back much sooner. Cocktails innovative. refreshing and yummy. Tuna Tartar appetizer-off the charts. (This would be great for a lunch too) I loved my Paella. Our friends enjoyed a salmon stew. Hubby had a pork dish -so tasty! The one regret...so full we didn't even look at the dessert menu...it left me wondering what I missed!
We sat outside on a mild evening. The restaurant filled quickly after 7 PM when the parking meters stopped charging for the day! The specialty pisco-based drinks were tasty, the snapper ceviche delicious, and the entrees were also good although a bit underdone. The entrees cost on the high side in comparison to other Lafayette restaurants. We will dine again at Barranco.
Terrific food artfully presented. Service was excellent. Alex was just great.
Some food items are good but some have too much spicy sauce and the ingredients aren't clearly labeled. For example the fish ceviche comes with a delightful light citrus sauce but the ahi ceviche comes with a yucky spicy sauce. And kids are not going to eat mac-n-cheese with bacon and crumbs. Also $8 for fries is a gouge. The skewers are good. Overall a great concept but menu needs lots of work.
The aji de gallina was totally WRONG. It had tons of curry which is NOT at all in the recipe. I brought my mom who is Peruvian and she said this isn't right. The chicken wasnt shredded properly either. I was hoping to find a real peruvian restaurant here but it appears they are serving what appeals to gringos. No offense but the search continues. The lomo saltado was ok but not worth going out of your way for. Other than that, the place is very pleasant and the service is excellent.
We came on a Saturday night with our daughter and 2 missionary friends from Lima, Peru. Everyone enjoyed their food immensely, and our visiting friends said it was like a taste of home!
Delicious food - will definitely dine again and bring my friends.
Great blend of flavors in all their entrees. Appetizers are authentic Peruvian fair.
I love Barranco. I have been there a few times now with large parties or with my kids and wife. But we were going for an anniversary dinner this time so just the two of us. Normally, I would say everything is perfect, but I noticed with two it is a bit different. My two complaints were that the hostess said our reservation would be 20 minutes later, just leaving us in the lurch - but then her boss was like no it is the table right there. If it were 20 minutes later this would be a different review, I used Open Table for a reason. Then all night long servers walked up and said is this your dish for whether it was ours or our neighboring table. That was annoying. 4 sets of 2 people in a row, it made sense that no one knew which table was which, but it killed the experience a bit since it is stressful to remember what I ordered since who knows what is coming. And, I don't always know what the food looks like. So now I am having to listen closely to someone about what food is arriving and not just have a good conversation with my wife. They should be better able to map which table is which.
Oh, and a staff member exploded an glass of a food something all over the floor and the back of my shirt and pants and shoe. A total accident, but I didn't even get offered a little bit of clean up when clearly I was covered in some kind of food... I found that annoying. So, service was a bit less extraordinary than normal this time, but the food is great and the place is just a nice Peruvian place and I like it. And hey - my sweater came with leftovers.
Barranco has been my go to restaurant for service and food. The seafood chicharrones lacked flavor and I needed to douse it in lemon juice. It was a disappointment from the first time I tried it. Since I first began going to Barranco, the paella portion seems smaller. Our server was very nice, but we often had long waits before he came to our table. One of the wait staff didn't seem to understand me when I asked for more lemon for the chicharrones.
Great place, but they need to “up” their air-conditioning! I was soaking wet during dinner!
The menu is varied and I have enjoyed both lunch and dinner at the restaurant. I recommend the costillas and the avocado salad available on the lunch menu.
We went with friends on a Friday night. Service was attentive, food OK to good. Felt overpriced. The table had two on side and two on the other. It was very hard to hold a conversation with the other side of the table. Outside, while a bit chilly, may have been better for conversation.
Food: the fried plantains were a hit. The rosemary chicken was tender and tasty. The lobster mac and cheese was outstanding. The men both had lomo saltado and were disappointed. We had ordered french fries as a starter with the plantains. It might have been nice if the waiter had told us the lomo saltado came with more fries. May have rethought it.
We did not order any drinks besides water and beers. We did not order dessert because we were full and did not want any!
My second time on a Friday night here. Love this restaurant. Great staff, food and craft cocktails. What else do you need on a Friday night? Just wonderful🥰
The staff in the bar was extraordinarily loud, literally howling at the top of their lungs towards the end of the night...horrible.
Waitress moody, food is not flavorful, fish not cooked well. I didn't like it. Very expensive and charged tip on the bill for bad service 20% tip
Octopus appetizer overly seasoned and salty. Beef dish with fries and rice, highly recommended by the waiter, was chewy and had the same seasoning as the octopus appetizer! Best things were the non-alcoholic drinks. This restaurant was a major disappointment.
The food was good as were the drinks. Service was a little spotty. It is a nice spot to sit outside on a warm day. I would go back again.
Was just fine. We didn’t expect the food to be so spiced and prior info would be good. The size wasn’t really big so good to take starters.
Food was iffy. Knife cuts were very poor on Cebiche, which resulted in stringy fish. Same for beef in Lomo Saltado. Also, got the chicken curry dish and it was thick, starchy, gloopy and inedible. I love Peruvian food and I enjoy eating at Parada, but I won't return to Barranco.
My family and friends enjoyed dining at Barranco. We started out with ordering an assortment of empanadas. They were very tasty and surprising light and flaky. My friends ordered Picos Sours which they said tasted great. For the main course two people had the Seafood Paella, another had the Pescado a lo Macho, which was a seafood stew. Another person had the Cebiches, and another the Churrasco,(streak). Everyone said their dishes were delicious. I ordered the Lomo Saltado and said please don't make it spicy. The dish really was too spicy for my palate. All in all, the food is very unique and good. My only criticism would be the service. We had hard time getting the server's attention. He did not come back after we were served to ask how the food was. It appeared that our server had quite a few other tables as well as ours. For the price of the dinner it would have been nice to have had more attentive service.
Food was not as good as our previous two visits. Lots of empty mussels and extremely small when there was one in the shell. octopus tasted more burnt than grilled.
Extremely hot outside (this past Saturday). Service was good.
delicious, high quality food! Their sangria is amazing. Pricey, yet I don't feel gauged as I often do with other restaurants on this side of the tunnel. The quality of the food matches the prices!
Tried Barranco for the first time on a Friday night. Great place. The moment you walk into this restaurant you are greeted with warm people. The drinks are fantastic & appetizers are the best. Will be back soon to try their entrees. The appetizers were filling and delicious. Empanadas were the best. We had the chorizo with potato and ordered the ribs. The food just melted in our mouths.
Really enjoyed our first meat at Barranco. Gave Barranco a great review on TripAdvisor.
Great food and ambiance but service was lacking. They need more waiters.
Excellent experience!! Highly recommended for food, service, ambience and atmosphere. We dined outside.
The food is excellent. But we ate outdoors because the noise level inside was definitely not to my liking. It’s expensive too. The food, however, is unique, very tasty and fun
