Great tapas and wine, sangria and margaritas. The dates are out of this world. Try the paella as well.
Every time I go to Barraca, I think they could not impress me more. And every time I fall more and more in love with the place! It is such an underrated, lowkey yet very fun gem in the village. Definitely not yet that well-known which makes it the perfect secret spot to take your friends out to catch up! The sangrias are their specialty, as well as every single item in their menu (cheeses, charcuterie,TAPAS TO DIE FOR,AND DONT FORGET THE ICING ON THE CAKE STUFFED-CHURROS). The staff has always been very pleasant and welcoming, making it the perfect spot after a long, exhausting work day to relax with some drinks. The overall vibe from the decor, the comfortable booth seating, candlelight, and adorably sweet (and good-looking) waitstaff have me coming back almost every week. They should not change a thing (especially the amazing staff) who even sang for me on my birthday and got me a candle. Could not have asked for a better, more personal experience. They also now remember me since I've gone several times! Definitely must try the BACON-wrapped dates and the GAMBAS. For the ultimate experience, dip your bread in the tapas sauces! Just overall brilliant and my all-time favorite spot!
Mediocre food. Poor/slow service. Loud music. Three things contributing to not a great experience for a group of 6 of us. Challenging to talk. Shuttled to a “dungeon” basement that soon became crowded and airless. Lucky they awarded themselves an 18% tip for large party, because they probably wouldn’t have received that much from us.
Food is delicious and the restaurant is beautiful. Bottomless sangria is wonderful but with a big geoup the servers wait until the majority of the table have empty glasses. Not a huge fan of that, makes those that like to sip slowly feel pressured to drink more quickly. But overall a good place for brunch.
Great atmosphere and amazing food with a great sangria selection!
Second time visiting Barraca and I loved it. Great Galentine's brunch and delicious sangria!
Place was really incredible, food was clean and well prepared, venue was super intimate, overall great ambiance
Great tapas, nice room, excellent service!
Decorations was cute - came here for a girl's date on Valentine's Day. Service was atrocious (and we were on the lowest level, wasn't packed at all) and our paella came out so overcooked we could barely scrape it from the pan. Would not recommend this place to anyone.
Ruined Valentine's Day! Overpriced, squeezed in a corner, waited 45 minutes for entree, paella was burnt. Sangria was ok.
My husband and I went to celebrate Valentine’s Day. They didn’t note they would have a set dinner menu, so we were surprised when we got there and were told that’s all they were doing. We understood, given it was a busy night.
The food was so-so but the service was sub-par. We waited about 30 minutes for our paella, again understandable because the dish takes long to cook. But then we waited 45 minutes for dessert (which was supposed to be chocolate cake and an almond layer cake), at which point I asked to take it to go. They packed up macaroons and called it our dessert. The real kicker was when we received the check and saw 18% gratuity had already been included. I definitely would ‘t have been as generous given the poor service we received.
I’m not going back, and I have every intention of telling everyone I go to avoid this place.
Also, the music was incredibly loud (very hard to have a conversation) and it was pretty warm inside. Not a very romantic setting for V-Day.
Waited more than 50 minutes to get the first single small dish (only for one person). Waited another 40 minutes to get another. It took almost three hours to finish all the meals. There was a 20% tip that was printed on the receipt.
For the price, the food was not good. Despite the long wait, the food was cold, steak was dry.
I'm not usually a person that gets upset in restaurants, but I was pretty angry for the first time.
The staff were friendly, helpful and polite but the food was lacking in flavor for my friends and I. The drinks were outdone by the amount of ice they put in there. The sangria tasted like watered down juice. Once all the ice was removed (which we did ourselves) the red sangria was actually pretty decent but it shouldn’t take that much work. At $32 the sangria pitcher shouldn’t be half filled and stuffed with ice to appear full. I do not recommend this restaurant and wouldn’t eat here again. The best thing about this place is the staff and the ambience so if that’s what you go to dinner for but food and drinks were a miss for us.
It was amazing
Barraca was great! My table was late for our reservation but they held the table without a problem, especially on a Saturday night
Service is pretty atrocious here.
when you make reservations you have to specify which restaurant you want to sit in, when i made the reservations i obviously would have love to sit in the barraca side because they have different food options.
Not sure what happened to this place. I used to come here all the time for happy hour food and drinks, but after my last meal here, I will not come back.
Food/drinks: The happy hour menu used to be drinks and sangria for $5. It's now up to $6. Not much of a deal anymore, especially considering the food quality has gotten terrible. The shrimp was inedible. The tortilla was so overcooked and flavorless--it was like a burned diner omelette. The manchego came with 4 slices of cheese and ONE cracker. What??
Service: We arrived when the restaurant was empty except for one 2-top table in the back. The hostess sat my sister and me RIGHT next to that table (2 inches away) even though there were about 25 empty tables nearby. We asked our server if we could move one more table over and she had to check with the hostess first.... ok.... Then the server kept taking our drinks before we'd finished them. She was very pushy about us ordering more. Then after we signed the check, so collected the check from us while we were still there finishing our drinks and food (big pet peeve of mine). The restaurant was still half empty at this point, so it wasn't like we were taking a table they needed.
Overall, I was embarrassed that I'd chosen this place for a meal out with my sister. The food and service used to be great. Not sure what happened. I won't be back.
I love paella negra and sangria. Was celebrating my birthday last night with my friends. Our server is vey well (Catalina) I give her a lot of stars. And thank you to store manager to giving me a complement(sangria)
I had my friend's 33rd birthday here. This place is huge. There was 2 floors. The top floor had multiple rooms. It was playing great 90's music that you want to dance to and had a hip vibe. It is not a place where I would describe as a place for a quiet night of conversation. The service was a bit slow to start as there were large groups all around us celebrating all around us, but we did not mind as we were sitting there in a cozy environment catching up. Definitely not one of those places which rushes you to place your order or disrupts your conversation to do so. (I hate that.) However, once we placed out food orders, the food came out hot and delicious. I think everything came out in 15 minutes. I told them it was my friend's birthday multiple times. They forgot and served us desserts without the song and candle, which they did for everyone else. I told them again and they came out with free truffles with candle and song. I can't really get mad at anyone there as everyone was so sweet. They gave us a free carafe of wine that you have to pour skillfully into you mouth if it is a special occasion. Overall, I would come again happily.
Worst service I've ever had. Clearly the staff knew they got 20% for the size of our party.
Great food, The charcuterie Board was very impressive, the steak with piquillo peppers was outstanding.
I was hoping for a better experience but overall the service was very poor. Food quality was good but not above average. They even forgot to bring out one of the tapas that were ordered. The server was not attentive and for a restaurant that was only 25% filled it felt dismissive.
This is my 3rd time visiting and I had another amazing meal!
Good food, but not great. I order about 4 tapas and a paella, which was not burned at the bottom at all! That just breaks my heart. I had great service, but I didn’t eat anything memorable that would make me want to go back.
Disappointed in the meal.. they sat us on top of the heating unit.
Food just okay but plentiful. Service very attentive. TOOOOO LOUD!!!!!
From the moment I stepped in, ambiance was cozy and staff very attentive. Decor was tasteful yet simple and tapas were delicious. The floor manager on this Saturday afternoon everything was to our liking.
If you like Tapas then Barraca is a stand-out. Superb range of dishes, generous portions and efficient service just around the corner from the Village Vanguard. For a jazz fan this is as good as it gets.
Food was excellent! Noise level was extremely loud. We couldn’t hear each other talk
Cafe con Leche was delicious!
They severed very good authentic Spanish tapas. This is our first time here. Love the experience.
I went this restaurant for Paella, however, after we eat almost half of Parlla Marisco, we found the string or small rope (inedible). But still, manager took care of things, so I would say service is really good but please check the Paella before you guys serve.
Good paella. Excellent little hole in the wall off the tourist track.
The tapas are amazing here. One of the best places in the city to have sangria. The service is good and you can actually hear the conversation going on at your table. One of my favorite places to go!
First time in NYC and this place was highly recommended by a friend. Went to barraca and we all absolutely loved it! A few of us tried the bottomless sangria for brunch and it was amazing
Our waiter was just impecable and the food was incredible. You will not be disappointed. Next time I’m in town I will be coming back!
This is one of my go-to spots for a group of 5/6. It is perfect to get tapas and carafes of sangria and share everything! The food is always good and the wait staff is always attentive. If you like paella, you won’t be disappointed!
Food was delicious and service was great! Definitely recommend
