Barraca Ratings and Reviews
Our party of three had paella for two and three tapas, and both the paella and the tapas were absolutely delicious. If you have a play or a gig at the Vanguard to make, the service is perfect--the tapas come out pretty quickly and the paella half an hour later.
liven the neighborhood, so love that I decided to eat here with a friend. The happy hour price for tapas was a lovely surprise. The food was excellent. Tapas are such a wonderful way for friends toe at to gather and have wonderful conversations. The noise level was acceptable for conversation. Hope that it doesn't become louder for dinner.
Transported right to Spain...
We had dinner recently at Barraca and had a wonderful evening. The location is in the heart of our favorite part of NYC, (West Village) and felt like we were out of the country that night in a cozy charming restaurant. The food was the most authentic tapas I have had in NYC (be sure and get the Pulpo a la Plancha) and they had a nice selection of artisan created sangrias which were so yummy! The service was stellar and we felt well taken care of by our waiter Angel. Looking forward to going back again soon.
Nice meal with not exceptional, but above average food; service and experience was again very good but fell short of NY finest. I thought the cadence of tapas was a bit quick. The lighting and noise level were perfect and the servers thorough and thoughtful.
Maybe it was particular to the table we were taken to, but the AC was ultra cold in the back. We kept asking to adjust it but it'd then get turned back up in a second. As a result, one of my guests ended up waking up with a cold the next morning. It really distracted from the food, which was "probably" good. The noise level was loud but we could maintain conversation so it was ok. The staff were very nice but the service was pretty spotty. It took 23 minutes for us to get a check from the moment we asked for it. The waiter never came back after the main dish (paella) to clean our table or ask to see if we wanted coffee or dessert. We had to flag down who was probably the owner to ask for coffee to warm our frozen hands.
Had a great Bachelorette dinner this weekend with friends. The service was prompt. The tapas and sangria selection were delicious. We even got a free round of drinks.
For tapas- we had the charcuterie platter, garlic shrimp, bombas, croquettes and shishito peppers. Everyone was happy!
The restaurant is really rustic with sensational food superior tasting food and lively hospitality. My friend and I were there for lunch and was really quiet which allowed us to have a conversation without the challenge of trying to overcome any restaurant noises. Really enjoyable. Louis, the manager was personable, informed and overall made our visit memorable.
This is a great, fun tapas spot - but the mains are great too. Their sangria bar is as potent as it is delicious, with most offerings being liquor and wine mixes. You can also do bottomless pick-and-mix sangria. I was here for Sunday brunch and sat outside, which was lovely.
First time eating at Barraca. It was ok, service a bit spotty and slow. Food runners confused, bringing other tables dishes to our table, etc. The food was pretty good. Very creative sangria menu. Big mistake though was choosing to sit outside. The restaurant is right on a busy street next to a hospital. Constantly having to cover our ears overtime an ambulance or emergency vehicle whizzed by with sirens blaring. And the outdoor tables and chairs are VERY uncomfortable. No place to put your legs or feet and every time someone tried to slide their metal chair on the concrete pavement, it was like listening to finger nails on a chalk board. Just really ruined the experience. If you're eating here in summer, eat inside!
VERY noisy. We were fortunate that there was an available table outside. Of course the restaurant had no control over the many, many sirens racing to and from the Northwell Health ER across the street.
The food was good, but the Sangria options sounded much more interesting than they actually were, and the wine choices were dull.
While I found this restaurant on the NYC restaurant week listings, they only serve that special menu if the entire table participates. Wish we'd known this before we made the reservation.
Its a shame that the service is beyond awful because the food is pretty good. From the hostess trying to give us a terrible table - she said lots of reservations were coming but there were mostly open tables - and good ones - the whole time we were there, to the time it took for our order to be taken, to the need to ask for bread, to the lack of anyone to provide us with a check or take our credit card for the the bill.. The hostess and waitress were gabbing the whole time and ignoring not only us, but the entire restaurant. Guess they had a lot to talk about but guarantee it was not the people who were paying money to eat there.. I can't think of a service experience as awful as the one we had a Barraca.
Bottomless were watered down. Waited an hour for food. Didn't get a bottle of water for the table like the surrounding tables. Wouldn't recommend unless you want to wait for food for an hour, drink watered down drinks and be seated in the basement while the main floor is half empty
Could not have had a better experience at Barraca! The staff was very welcoming and very helpful. Management was present and very professional. The food was very delicious and the sangria even more. What stood out the most was our wonderful waitress Jireh! She was very happy, friendly and helpful and made our experience very memorable! Thank you Baracca!
Went for RW lunch good menu options and loved the idea of various Sangrias!
Portions were huge, food tasty and service friendly .
Until bill came and told not accepting American Express...during Amex co-sponsored RW?
This information was not on website, confirmation reservation e-mail, or conveyed in any way at restaurant until time to pay.
Since I had signed off for the Amex $5 off offer had I known I would have dined elsewhere, and saved this one for another time.
