Barra Rossa – Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
My granddaughter and I had theater tickets and we wanted to come back to Barra Rossa. (We were there last year before The Wizard of Oz). The atmosphere was very festive but not too loud that we couldn't hear each other. Our waitress was great, and the food was delicious. Great restaurant before the theater, service was quick, and we weren't rushed.
The service was terrible and the food not much better. We were a group of 4 work colleagues meeting for lunch.
We waited 45 minutes for a basket of bread. Three of the entrees arrived about 10 minutes later. The fourth entree arrived about 10 minutes after the others. It consisted of burned salmon and salad greens drowning in dressing.
The waiter barely acknowledged us and only apologized for the delays when he was ready to finally serve them.
4 adults 2 children ate here after an afternoon play at the Walnut, we were early however, it was great that we were seated right away. Waitress was new and we did take that into consideration however, service was very slow. The waitress was pleasant and apologetic. The food was very good especially the burger, one of the children's meals can out luke warm. All in all I think I would go back!
Dined here last year and all was fine. Decided that we would go back this year after theatre. One of our party had a hard time walking especially up steps. When we arrived I asked if there was an elevator. There wasn't. I asked if we could be seated downstairs. Curtly told NO. We then offered to split our group so that the person who had the difficulty could stay on first level. Curtly told NO. I made these reservations months in advance so I wasn't springing a large party (8) on them. Complete lack of hospitality. There was a table large enough downstairs but I guess that was reserved for the manager's "friends" because when we were leaving it appeared that the number at that time was the same as ours. The waitress was ok and tried to be helpful but she was a little odd in that she would take one drink order at a time and was running back and forth. We didn't get that but.... Next year we will find another restaurant., and tell anyone who asks that this group was not welcoming.
The food was delicious and the room had so much character. Our server was polite and efficient however we were sooo rushed ! It couldn't have happened quicker! I was enjoying a visit with my kids and felt that from the moment we sat down they couldn't wait to turn the table over. Our reservation was 5:15 and as a party of 5 with apps and deserts we were paid and out in exactly one hour. A few minutes to digest would have been nice.
When we were seated upstairs by the bar, we commented on how cold it was and were told that it's because it's an old brick building and it should probably warm up in about a half hour. It was so freezing that our hot tea and food was cold within minutes and it made it hard to enjoy anything. Everyone in our party, from the grandparents to the grandchildren, complained of being cold the entire time. Other rooms were not as cold and the kids made multiple trips to the bathroom to try to warm up. We had to wear our coats throughout the entire meal and noticed the table next to us were wearing their coats as well. It's a shame because it completely ruined the experience.
The restaurant was busy on the Saturday night when my party of 4 went. Despite the busy restaurant our reservations for our table was perfect. The waitress was very attentive and delivered excellent service. The food was amazing and presented very nicely. Our drinks were delicious and plentiful. This restaurants atmosphere was beautiful and the ambience was perfect. Highly recommend this place and will be back again in the future.
This is the second time I was a customer at this restaurant. The food this time was better, at least it was served hot. Felt rushed with the meal. We were still on appetizers when meals arrived. Dishes that were done were not removed. Table was cramped because of that. Waiter forgot water, got wine order incorrect. He was nice person, just not good waiter.
Restaurant is nice and convenient to the theater, wise the food and service was better.
