Based on the rating in Open Table we expected for something else. The food was not high level and was very basic.
The menu has something for everyone, at a reasonable price for the quality of food they are preparing. This was my second time at Barra Rosa and I remain impressed with the level of care that goes into eaxh dish. Highly recommended!
On Saturday March 16th, I dined in your restaurant for the second time. I returned because the food is fantastic, and the bartender on the second floor provided world class customer service. I sat at the bar because it was the only place available since I did not have a reservation. But on Saturday the 16th I made a 5:30 reservation, and I sat at about the middle booth on the right wall as you enter the restaurant. This time I felt slighted by the young lady that waited on me and my friends. I was the first to arrive with my party of three. I sat for a little while and no one approached the table to at least acknowledge my presence. However, when my Caucasian friends arrived (I am African American), the waitress approached the table and greeted my friends before they were completely settled in their seats.
You may label this as an innocent oversight. But from where I was sitting it was an insulting customer experience. I believe that the lack of consideration afforded minorities sometimes happens unconsciously because as a society we are programmed that way. As a paying customer however, I want equal treatment. I am not asking for special treatment, but perhaps those that provide a service to the public need to make the effort to be more cognizant of all customers. It is demeaning to be treated as second class, especially when I am in your establishment to support your operation.
food was great.server was great. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The food was delicious and our service was excellent. The décor and lighting are right on point, rustic and romantic. This was my second visit and I will return soon.
Great table upstairs, good service.Good food...Had a great time ,will do it again...
This is a wonderful restaurant. Excited to host a private event in your lovely upstairs space in September!
I would recommend. Although not a five star restaurant, it is a great go to, and if I lived closer, I would be there every week. We had drinks before dinner and the bartender was very good as well. Although it was a busy bar, she was attentive and friendly. Our server for dinner was great and even brought special dessert for the table for my daughter’s 25th birthday. The host was friendly as well. I would definitely go back. There were a lot of Gluten free options and I enjoyed being upstairs for dinner.
As always the food, service - everything is wonderful.
Chloe was a wonderful server, gave us time to talk and didn’t rush our meal. She was very attentive to our drink refills and clearing dirty plates. She quickly brought club soda and a napkin to clean up a red wine spill on a sweater. She was busy with other large tables but made sure we had he equal attention and service. We will definitely come back and request her again!
My husband and I ate here prior to a show. The food, service and atmosphere was AMAZING!!! I had the tomato and mozzarella salad that was to die for!!! Tomatoes were done 3 ways!!! Mozz served 2 ways with olives and arugula salad!! Calamari was delicious!! Salmon salad was awesome!! Reasonably priced, great service!! You can't go wrong!!!
Mussels were good. Too much cheese with the rigatoni.
Barra Rossa is a great place to enjoy an early dinner in the theater district of center city, Philadelphia. Perfect for leaving the Walnut Street Theater because Barra Rossa is only a block away. The food was good and the service was good, which of course, is all you could ask for in a dinner place.
The high top seating was great! Thank goodness we reserved a hightop because I would have been very unhappy sitting at a low table where people were constantly walking through the restaurant. Our waitress was over attentive, and we felt very rushed to order our food, eat and get out of there. My friend and I were out for a moms night and we were just chatting away and felt pressured to order our apps right away and then the waitress kept getting frustrated bc we were not ready the 3, yes 3 times in 10 minutes, she came back to get our entree order. As expected our entrees came out shortly after our apps and we were not done our apps yet, annoying. The cheese plate was good and the crab & portabello was good, but not what I expected. I assumed it was going to be a crab stuffed portabello, it was a mushroom and crab saute with a mixed green on the side. Our entrees were the gnocchi and the filet. My filet was more medium than it was rare, underseasoned but not the worst. The gnocchi were good as well. We passed on dessert.
We were 15 mins late due to train. Accommodated us at high table even though request not. Then we sat there for 10-15 mins withno attention then had to ask server who was taking care of us. He then he would help us. He was fine. But felt forgotten and not attended to. Prbly will not go back.
This meal was an A+ at a restaurant that never disappoints. We arrived post-theatre a full hour ahead of our reservation but they were gracious and accommodating. We all had the price fixed menu, encompassing all options amongst the group. All raved! And they have the best Riesling in town!
We had a very nice dinner before the theater and the service from start to finish was fantastic.
We will definitely return.
Loved the food and atmosphere . Great place to eat before or after the theatre! Service was wonderful!
The place could use more busboys. Food came quickly but refills on water and wine were slow and required watching out for the waiter instead of enjoying dinner. Food was delicious and service staff was friendly and courteous.
This was a casual Italian restaurant/pizzeria/bar. The food was OK. The ambience was less than I anticipated based on their photos. The service was poor. Never got the salt and pepper we requested. After two requests for bread it arrived right after we finished eating, with no apology.
There were 4 in our party, pre-theatre. The service was prompt and friendly. The food was good, not fancy but good Italian fare. Excellent spot.
Everything was made from scratch with fresh ingredients!
Solid spot for pre theater meal and cocktails. 2nd time there, only dropoffs from outstanding 1st visit was confusion from waitstaff over who was working our table, we were told our server was "missing". Luckily Michaela picked up slack and was very good. Salmon on salad seemed to be frozen variety and was dried out and overcooked. Other choices were fine and pizza was outstanding.
Food was delicious. Appreciate the theater subscribers discount. Portion could be a little larger
Outstanding for pre-theater dining. The table we sat at was outstanding. Barra Rossa honored our on- line reservations requests.
A group of four dined at Barra Rosa before going to the Walnut Street Theater. Very convenient, decent food, casual atmosphere
We frequently Barra Rossa often for lunch when in the Walnut Street area. We have never had a disappointing meal. Service is always polite, friendly and efficient.
Of all the times dining at Barra Rossa, yesterday was the first time we were seated upstairs. We were directed to a bright, lovely window booth and greeted promptly by our server. It was a very pleasant dining experience.
Nice menu and well prepared. Good value and well located for pre-theatre dining
Great food, just a short walk from the Walnut St. Theater.
The Sunday menu was for dinner only. No lunch menu on Sundays. Not what we were looking for. A bit disappointed.
Calamari was very tasty, we each had a pizza which was delicious and my husband has the tiramisu and he thought it was excellent. We'll be back when going to walnut street theater.
The service is great. If you're a vegan, this place isn't the spot for you. Pasta was simply ok but the wine was great.
Total experience was fine, food was good. With all the great restaurants in the city this one just doesn’t stand out
Great food, nice servers. One of my favorite restaurants when I go to the theater.
Loved the drink and or waiter Nate
Great, only issue was it was too warm in the back room upstairs. May have stayed fire coffee after but we were all too warm.
Great service Loved getting discounts for attending theatre after our meal. Nice size portions and delicious too.
The noise level of our table was terrible we were placed next to the upstairs bar even though other tables were available. We started with one server and were switched half way through. He was very attentive. Food was just average.
