The Barncastle Hotel and Restaurant serves Alsatian-inspired cuisine using local and seasonal ingredients. Chef Owen Royce-Nagel and his wife, both Sommelier- and Cicerone-certified, Lizzie Szczepaniak, have been crafting their concept and menu over the last two decades all across the world. Dishes are intended to be shared and bread (from Tinder Hearth!) is meant to be broken in their cozy dining room and pub. The beverage program features a natural and biodynamic wine list, classic cocktails, and craft Maine beer. Located in the heart of the Blue Hill Peninsula, in between Camden and Acadia National Park, it is the perfect place to gather with friends and family.

Cocktails and burrata were superb. Enjoyed our meal and the cozy dining atmosphere. Service was excellent and staff is super friendly.

I love Barncastle. I’ve been going every summer since the current owners started serving their unique Alsatian cuisine. This year there are some new items and old favorites. I had the new delicious hash brown potatoes with hollandaise sauce and caviar. And once again I ordered the incomparable roasted chicken. The best in any restaurant in Downeast Maine. My friend ordered oysters and they were so good, he ordered another serving, followed by a big serving of local steamed mussels. I’ll be returning many more times this summer.

Our cocktails, appetizers and entrees were all top knotch! Looking forward to going back again! Very nice staff and a charming old Maine property.

Barncastle is my favorite restaurant in the Blue Hill area. Beautiful, delicious food with a warm welcome and attentive service. Thank you Lizzie and Owen for creating a such a fabulous environment. Highly recommended.

Another excellent meal. The roast chicken is one of the best, perhaps the best, I have enjoyed. A generous pour on a very good Old Fashioned to start. I always sit at the bar and there is usually good conversation to be had. Lizzie the co—owner with her husband, worked the bar last night. Very enjoyable. I’ll be back.
