Barn Joo Ratings and Reviews
The wait staff was pretty horrendous. My order was placed incorrectly, I waited 10mins before given fork and knives, and my order came on plates that were too small to be eaten out of (spilled a lot). It’s a shame; we had high hopes that this could be a good date spot for us. This was our fourth time and will be the last.
I have been to Barn Joo on different occasions and have enjoyed every time I have gone. The food is amazing even for a picky eater like myself. Everything is so fresh and tasty. The servers are so knowledgeable about the ingredients and are able to make recommendations based on likes described by the patrons. I cannot wait to go again. I also found a drink I am dying to have again.
We hadn't eaten at Barn Joo since they moved "down" to w. Union Square, and they survived intact. The setting as a bit simulated-rustic (kinda works, kinda doesn't), but the food works great. The menu is big and the quality is first-rate. And the prize-wheel for patrons with reservations is still in operation...
Food: ordered pop cornchicken/beef wrap/spicy rice cake/truffle fries.. all were horrible.
Cocktail: Seoul cocktail tasted like water
Soju: Soju is soju
Banana Makkeli: Wrong description. They straight up sell bottle one and it's 3% alcohol content, not 14% like they advertise
Overall: Love the ambient, however food was horrible. I would not recommend.
I went with a group to Barn Joo for lunch. The service was awful and we had to flag down the waiter to even order. My entire party received their meals except for me. The waiter came over asking if I was in a rush because he forgot to put in my order. I had the sushi burrito with fries - this took 20 plus minutes to make. He did not comp my order or offer me anything for my wait.
Awful service I will not be returning.
Korean BBQ was fun to cook at the table and tasted great! However, temperature control was a major issue. It was very warm in the restaurant, so once we got upstairs with all the grills on, it was very uncomfortable. We sweat through our entire meal and even I tried to fan myself with a menu to try to stay cool. I know it wasn't just our table either – we saw other people fanning themselves as well. If the restaurant kept the temperature lower to accommodate for the grills, I think it would be a much more pleasant dining experience (again – food was great!). Also, service was nice but extremely slow (perhaps a result of a lot of full tables and not a lot of waiters/servers). Will come back to give it another shot though!
I reserved a table and when we got there, we were promptly seated. We even had a chance to spin the wheel to win something--I won the "One Thyme Soju". The service was great, albeit I feel like the server we had was a bit overwhelmed due to the section only having her but overall she did her best. This is the one place where we didn't have to ask for our water to be refilled unlike other restaurants which was great!
Overall, great experience and service.
