Small bar /restaurant with a great laid back environment. Food was very good especially liked their lobster roll on Hawaiian rolls.

Chefs specialty tomato & mozzarella salad is a ripoff. Consist of two thin stalks of romaine lettuce two small tomates cut in 4 piece wedges and one slice of mozzarella sliced in thin slices - strewn around the plate and topped with a tangy oil and vinegar dressing. For an outrageous $14.

Good for breakfast or a burger, otherwise keep looking.

Literally the corner bar. Got an interesting mix of people because of proximity to hipster hotel erwin. Start here for happy hour then head to rooftop bar for the pic.

Barlo is a Hotel Restaurant... just to say that tells a big non-secret... don't go.

Barlo is a secret... GO!

A unique little hideaway restaurant in this unique hotel - ERWIN. The ambiance is great, the food is far more than great, and you feel that you are in a place where everyone is happy - young or old - local surfer or visiting from far away country. It's a place, a restaurant that has never disappointed us, on the contrary it has always proved itself to be a place that you leave with a smile, a happy stomach, and sweet dreams.

Delightful cozy little spot (inside a hotel) with low noise level when we were there for a 6:30 pre-theater dinner on a Friday night. Salmon over parsnip purée was delicious, and happy hour prices on wine, beer, amazing crab toast and yummy chicken/waffles (as well as other things we didn't try) go till 7 pm. One star off for running out of a special by 6:30 pm and for not having bread to go with the clams in broth. Waitress and staff were lovely. We'll return. Valet free for 90 minutes at hotel instead of paying for public parking at lot next door.

Very small but packed with flavor. New hostess/waitress was better than most seasoned servers.
Great cheese plate, grilled octopus salad a must

This is a Hotel Bar with food. It's odd they take reservations at all and I was bummed I didn't research better to know where we were going prior to arrival. Part of the Hotel Erwin this little spot plays host to those not able to get into the true'scene' that is the roof top bar upstairs. The service was great; helpful, answered questions, and very cordial. The drinks were well made and we enjoyed our fancy bar food. Not what we were going for, but we liked the experience and would go back for dinner before or after drinks at the roof top bar.

Our group of four all loved the food, especially the brussel sprouts, lamb sliders, and poutine (basically everything listed under "small plates" was amazing). However, as other reviewers have mentioned, it was awful service- painfully slow and we had to request drinks and waters several times before they actually appeared.

We were staying at the hotel so we ate at the restaurant 2 nights and 2 mornings. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent with a nice variety. All the appetizers were great especially the brussel sprouts. The avacado kalamato toast with poached eggs was wonderful. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

The place was empty outside, probably due to weather, but we wanted to people watch and had seen heaters out on the patio. We ordered the special which was rabbit. Something we had never had before and didn't think you could get in Venice Beach! The side dish that came with it was a kale, carrot mix in a chicken broth. It was fantastic. We also split the burger and fries (a little too garlicky, but still good). We ordered the Brussel sprouts with candied walnuts and maple syrup as a an app and it was also great. But the best part of the meal was the service. Not only did we have great waiter who was very friendly and helpful, but there was another waiter that came out to greet us halfway through and ask about the meal. Super friendly staff and we are adding it to our list to re-visit!

The restaurant was empty when we arrived. As literally the only people there, we had to wait 10 minutes to even get waters. The service was fine, but the food was not. It was creative and well plated but the flavors just didn't jive. Even the charcuterie was just subpar. We were told we were getting a pate, and they didn't know what it was and had to go dig out the packaging to let us know it was prosciutto paste... The bone marrow was extremely oversalted and practically inedible (and I've never met marrow I didn't finish before). The foie gras had a nice texture but the char overpowered all other flavors. The paneer poutine was mostly the stuff on top and very little fries underneath. We felt like we were eating stuffing... Unfortunately I can't remember the fourth item we ordered and it's probably just as well.

GO TO BARLO for the PERFECT Steak frites. PERFECT. Delicious. What is not to love about bacon fat crumble on top of a steak and fries and incredible béarnaise sauce? The restaurant itself is not all that glamorous. In fact, I really would call it more of a bar then a restaurant. But, if you go early, or on a Sunday like we did you'll have peace and quiet and great service. I wish it was a better space. But, they really know what they are doing in the kitchen. That is the reason to go. Amazing food. Oh! and the Octopus salad was heaven. GO!

Barlo is a really small restaurant, looks to be built more as a bar. Would guess it could only serve 30 or so at a time, so I would suggest making reservations or eating early. Other than that the place is fantastic. Really nice cocktails and the food was amazing. Not a huge menu but should be diverse enough that you find something you want. Their burger was amazing and my wife really enjoyed her vegetarian entree. Barlo is definitely worth a try.

The Erwin's bistro has a revamped menu and it's gastropub type fare is well executed and interesting. Great, attentive service, too!

While the food was unbelievable, this place really needs to work on its service. We were seated outside, which, in my opinion, was the nicer part of the establishment... inside is cramped and definitely not very romantic (if that's what you are looking for). Not sure if it was because we were seated outside, but it took a while for a waiter to come see us. Then, we asked for our dishes to come one at a time. We were brought, almost at the same time, our first two dishes. We had specifically asked the waiter not to do this. So, they should have kept the 2nd dish (a charcuterie plate) in the kitchen as requested. Then, when the waiter brought the 2nd plate, he falsely listed off the cheeses on the plate (a 2nd waiter made the correction). After that, the service seemed to pick up as more than one waiter took care of us.

Aside from that, the drinks and food were absolutely amazing! One of the best charcuterie plates I've ever had!! We then had their polenta dish, which was superb.

If you are in the mood for good food, I highly recommend this place... and suggest sitting outside. For the service, if they can fix this (maybe this was just a one time thing?), then Barlo is a great little find!

First of all our waitress was so incredible that she almost convinced us to order everything on the menu! What we did end up ordering was all delicious (venison, steak, and chicken along with various sides) It's a tiny restaurant so not the best for large groups.
