Great meal and service!
Took a couple new hires to the restaurant on a Monday, and while the food was good, the service was a bit slow. Not to the fault of our server who was excellent, but the lack of staff that was staffed that day slowed our service.
It was a lovely day to have brunch outside. The food was excellent. The service was very slow, and the waiter failed to turn in one of our meals so we were finished before our friend. It was also difficult to get refills on drinks and water. The inside of the establishment was not busy so it seems strange to me that of the 5 tables outside that we had such an issue. You never know if it is the waiter or the kitchen. The food, I will have to say, swayed my vote.
My husband and I shared for small plates. They were all wonderful.
We love Barley Mac. Consistently delicious food with a menu that they update thoughtfully, and the servers are best in class. Easy going but very professional, they connect with their diners, and they provide excellent service. We love bringing friends and family from out of town to BMac, as we lovingly call it. I also love how kid-friendly and dog-friendly they are!! I highly recommend this restaurant, and we will always keep Barley Mac on our circuit of restaurants we frequent. A+!
Food was very bland. Service was ok. Wouldn’t recommend for brunch.
Chicken was bad, very dry and flavorless
A bit pricey for what you get, and too many bacon forward dishes, but overall not bad at all. Nice sized portions and a very large outdoor section made for a very pleasant evening.
Menu is all over the place. Inside was too loud - clearly challenging even for the staff. Short ribs were generous, juicy and tasty. Tomatoes in Caprese salad could have been riper. Rice in poke bowl seemed to have been pre formed.
Entertained my grown nephew here and we agreed that the next time he visited we would come back. The food was great, the noise (at lunch) was fine, we had bourbon, our waiter was great, I don't know what might have been better. (I had the Barley Burger and he had the Au Jus)
Service was fast, food was good
Attentive staff, nice decor, quality food, and easy access from the metro. We had the calamari as an appetizer and fig and prosciutto pizza for our main and both were good. The fig pizza nicely balanced the sweet of the fig with the salt of the prosciutto and the tart of the balsamic.
Average food at average place. Nothing stood out good or bad.
I enjoyed their happy hour with a couple of friends. It's a terrific deal and the service was excellent. This was my first time sitting outside at Barley Mac. Typically we have a full dinner inside and, though the dinner selection is first rate, it's typically very noisy. It's a totally different feel outside and I really enjoyed that. Also, I've always found the staff at their host stand to be first rate, whether in person or over the phone.
Sent back onion soup: tepid, flavorless broth with no onions. Fried calamari and grilled octopus were over-salted. Fried brussel sprouts were overcooked, dry. Someone in kitchen does not know what s/he is doing. Service was fine.
Our server, Derek, was terrific. Loved his recommendations! Also appreciated his patience.
Food was great. Only dispointment was a few whiskey choices and food choices weren't available but is was a big list and they went above and beyond to accommodate us. A+
Brunch was delicious and worth the price.
Very nice ambience. Food and service was very good. Large drink selection.
We had an awesome waitress who made our wait time for the food bearable. We had the calamari which was great . I had the pappardelle which was fresh but the ragu consisted mostly of red onions instead of meat. It was the closest restaurant to where we were staying , and the food was good. It just wasn’t great — and the wait time for the food was way too long , even though it was July 4th.
Great happy hour deals. Food was good, but the kitchen couldn’t get our steaks medium rare. First time it came out so rare that it was still cold in the middle. They took it back to cook a little more, but the same pieces were still pretty rare when they came back out.
The waitress wasn’t very attentive. & the burger was really wet and messy. I couldn’t enjoy it due to the bread falling apart.
Had apps and pizza. All quite good. Sangria a little sweet we thought, otherwise outstanding! Nice friendly service.
Met for lunch Nice outside dining And the sandwiches were good and a good value
We were able to get service sooner than our reservation which was great! We were coming from a family funeral service in Arlington Cemetery so we were happy we could get in right when you opened at 11:00. A friend of a relative recommended this place which was close and convenient, all of our party was not familiar with the area or restaurants near by. Overall, the food was good and service was great. I looked at the menu online ahead of time and saw there was a really good brunch menu but we were only given the lunch menu to choose from, it would have been nice to be given the whole menu and not just the lunch menu. I had to ask about certain speciality drinks too, it was online but not on the drink menu, they could accommodate but if you didn’t see it online you wouldn’t have known to ask.
Great pizza and sandwich selection. Also, the service was fantastic! Definitely recommend.
I’ve dined here many times, today service was just off. Server didn’t take drink order, after food was cleared we couldn’t catch a waiter for the check for over 30 minutes. space was also louder than usual and hard to hold normal conversation.
Although the place was empty, they sat us next to the only other occupied table which was very loud and disruptive.
I enjoyed my meal at Barley Mac - except for one thing. My elderly friend had asked for no salt on her scrambled egg whites - and she said they were extremely salty - but she didn't want to say anything. Plus they didn't look scrambled and very badly presented - much to large and just basically a slab of white. She would never complain - and so we didn't say anything but when you don't eat salt because of your health - it's a shame when they can't make sure the order doesn't have salt. We probably won't be going together again - I love their pizza and my omelette was delish - if not too large.
We sat at our table for at least 30 minutes or so before we were even acknowledged. A waitress brought us some water at least. My daughter who was tired and is pregnant just wanted to leave at that point. Finally our waitress came to take our drink orders. We were ready to give her our entire food order but she seemed in a rush and quickly turned her heels to go before we could finish ordering.
The food was overdone and cold when served. The coccoili (sp?) that the waitress suggested was terrible. The doughnuts were hard, perhaps stale and the prociutto didn’t taste fresh. The Brussel sprouts were overdone. The Korean Tacos extremely salty. And our pizza was cold and we had asked for it to come out after the tapas as an entree but arrived shortly thereafter the tapas and cold.
The only thing I enjoyed was my drink. I will never recommend this place to anyone. So very disappointing.
Barley Mac was wonderful. The atmosphere was fantastic, the food was good, and I would definitely go back. My one complaint is that we waited 10 minutes (when we had a reservation) without being helped at all. Nobody was standing at the host stand, and the rest of the staff walked by without a second thought.
Eating off the small plate menu, the Brussel sprouts, the Mac n cheese and the rolls with prociutto and honey are the best! The Old fashioned are made perfectly. The salmon main course was cooked exactly medium warm pink center, which most restaurants can't quite accomplish. The service was outstanding and outside seating was a pleasure on a nice Saturday evening.
The name and vibe suggest a more "bar food" menu (of which there are plenty of selections) but some of the entrees are truly outstanding. The Branzino was perfectly executed, as was the garlicky risotto and broccolini that accompanied it. My husband's brisket was also superb. Drinks seem a bit overpriced but the food will keep me going back.
This was a very nice venue for a going away party for a co-worker. We enjoyed sitting at the high-top tables and the food was excellent. Highly recommend the fries!
Very good, was finally able to eat here! I normally just go for drinks.
The brussel sprouts and calamari were amazing! Highly recommend.
We had a group with many food restrictions coming and managed to make it work thanks to Sean. The service was great, the food was great, and my group has a lovely brunch, we fully recommend the large Mimosa (you get a bottle and two mixers).
We've been here many times and it never disappoints. Food is good, drinks are amazing, service is always on point and you can't beat the atmosphere. Bartenders are AMAZING! Perfect spot for drinks
They were able to accommodate a large party. Bar service was very poor. Had to wait quite a while for our drinks. Manager was great! Made restitution for the poor service at the bar. Food quality made up for it!
I'm not sure if I would recommend Barley Mac. I'd like to give it another try, perhaps sitting outside on the patio. It was very loud inside, on a Wednesday evening, and the steak was not that tender.
I think it would help if the menu was clearer. I ordered a burger thinking that the only meat in the burger was bacon, but it turned out that it was a beef burger and I wasn’t expecting that. Like just some kind of note somewhere that says what kind of meat is in each dish.
