It was good, got a burger and Mac and cheese and they were both amazing. The waiter did hype up the short ribs even though there were none for the night.
Excellent service for a Valentines Day. Not rushed at all and food came out hot. Would definitely recommend.
Classy hot spot on Rosslyn's main thoroughfare. Well-managed with great service. Cuisine offers contemporary takes on classics like hamburgers and crab cakes. Excellent wine and cocktail menu. Appropriate for a business lunch or a date later in the evening. I really enjoyed it.
I loved the half-chicken confit entree and my boyfriend was very pleased with his pizza. The pizza was large and more than enough food for one for dinner or two less hungry individuals. Our server was attentive and it was a perfect spot for a quiet Sunday meal.
I love Barley Mac's Crab cake benedict - it's the best I've had. I also love their grilled Octopus. I wish they would have another veg hot soup option though.
I met up with some friends for brunch on Sunday. I selected this venue since I had never been to this particular restaurant, always trying new things in the Clarendon/Rosslyn area. I especially delighted in my strawberry shortcake french toast. :) We enjoyed it!
The only problem we had was Open Table allowed us to reserve a table at 10:15 but the restaurant doesn’t open till 1030 on Sunday.
Overall, had a good experience. Couple things that were detractors for us though. We were so excited for their famous Truffle Mac & Cheese - it's the reason we chose this restaurant, and when we went to order it, they told us that they had just run out of milk and, therefore, out of the mac & cheese as well. Super disappointed and a little bit of a surprise that they wouldn't be prepared for that. They also seated my party right next to the door when there were plenty of open tables more inside the restaurant, which I'd assume is always preferable when it's a bit cold and rainy outside. Despite these couple things, our waitress was great and other food items tasted good.
The sea bass was a bit overcooked and overpriced for what you get. The Salad "add the chicken" isnt great anywhere, but was inedible. I would go back and just stick to a burger and burbon.
Overall, pretty good brunch! Not tons of options, but delicious. Our waiter was a bit struggly but nothing we couldn’t get over!
We were running a bit late but they were completely flexible and accommodating. The strawberry shortcake breakfast was superb, the pizzas were delicious, and everyone was satisfied and pleased. The service was excellent. There were several larger tables, some including kids, but we didn't feel crowded or overwhelmed. We chose it because of the cool name. We'll be back because of everything else!
We booked this spot last minute for my sisters birthday. Our server was fantastic. The sangria I had was really good. I had 3! Unfortunately, the food was mediocre. Absolutely no flavor. The food was not worth the price point.
Very noisy. The food was just okay but expensive for the value. We were told two crab cakes were $30 but then charged $40. They were bland and not worth either price. The desserts were just ok. Our waiter was fantastic.
Food is always good. Everyone loves the brussel sprouts. Has some good Gluten-free choices. Braised beef short rib was tasty and well cooked accompanied by green beans in sauce. 3 of us had salmon and that was very good as well. Main complaint is that the staff were a bit pushy (but still polite)--on us to order while we were chatting with our friends who just arrived. Then at end they kept trying to remove our plates before we were completely finished. A warning for winter diners: they put us in a booth along the front wall, right next to some uninsulated windows and a metal wall. It was very cold out and we had to ask to be moved because the seating there was quite cold and uncomfortable there. It was fine in the new location.
The food was delicious as well as the drinks but the wait staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the entire menu.
Food took forever and clearly sat under a heat lamp for quite some time. My burger was way overcooked. The server seemed like we were inconveniencing her, but had no problem tacking on a 20% mandatory gratuity. Another server dropped fries at our table (wrong table) then came back took them away and served them to the correct table. Yuck! I was very disappointed with my experience
Amazing Gastro Pub, with amazing food and Drinks. Fabulous Bang for your Buck!!
Our experience was excellent, place spotless, beautiful, warm. Staff was friendly, engaging, ser I’ve was superb. Our food was delicious, tasty, creative, different and plenty. Price was great as well we will be back and enjoy their beautiful bar.
The food was great and service was outstanding. You won't be disappointed.
I have been to Barley Mac one time prior to this. I found it very confusing that we were being waited on by several different people. Secondly, the drinks took very longer to get to us. Thirdly, one of the entrees (marinated sirloin) seemed as though it had been cut a while before it was actually served. The price point for me slightly high for the lack of service and quality of the food served.
We had amazing service from Miloš and Jelena. They put up with a very rowdy group and provided efficient, friendly service throughout the evening.
Close to my hotel and recommended as consistent in service and food. I would concur. It was good, not great. Drinks were good, not great. Service was good, not great. But if you are looking for a good meal at a good price, it would be worth a try.
Food really bad. Service terrible. I had to get my own plate from the kitchen. Waiter couldn’t remember anything we asked for.
Four of us went to brunch for my birthday recently. Luis our server was AWESOME. He made great recommendations and was very attentive. The food was good the mimosas were outstanding. If you’re in the area stop by!
Overall the food was good, only that the French Toast were undercooked.
3$ mimosas at brunch! Can’t beat that! Service was awesome. Looking forward to trying more of the menu.
I went to Barley Mac with my boyfriend for our anniversary. We had Hector as our server and he was awesome! Super attentive and friendly. The food was amazing and came out so quick! It was nice and quiet and everyone that worked there was extremely nice. Loved it and would recommend to anyone!
Staff were very friendly and helpful and Sunday brunch was well done. Would definitely go for brunch again
We've been looking for a good place for Sunday brunch and Barley Mac is great for a wonderful and not over the top expensive brunch. It's an upscale neighborhood place. $3 Mimosas!! We'll return.
Great food and service! The atmosphere was pleasent and the restaurant was clean. Will come back!
Place was nice, good place to meet colleagues. My meal was kind of bland though. That was a surprise.
Wanted to like the restaurant. A few glimpses why not...
1. Waiter stood talking with another colleague about non work issues (within earshot) while holding our drink order. Drinks were already slow.
2. Six dirty plates and glasses remained on the table while the waiter ignored them. We finally asked another waiter to take care of them.
3. One appetizer that was highly recommended was greasy and not fully cooked.
4. Main courses were fine.
1 entree forgotten. Came 1/2 hour late. Foreign body found in Crab Cake. Reordered drinks did not arrive.
Manager did comp meals.
Picked this restaurant because of the good ratings; however, I wasn't too impressed with our visit; I ordered a hamburger medium rare, and it was under cooked; my friend ordered a mock-tail (without alcohol) and they put alcohol in it. When the bill came, they charged for the alcohol and then argued about taking it off the receipt. On the positive side, the brussel sprouts were good. I can't give a high rating for the food because of the inconsistency of the overall meal. The service was not good given the lack of detail and lack of customer service. Given its overall rating however, I will most likely not go back.
Yes, the food and atmosphere is great. We just had a nervous new waiter and he was not as attentive as maybe he should have been. A little slower service than normal.
The food was good, a bit pricey but good. But the waitstaff were so incredibly unprofessional. There was no hostess to seat us, which would have been fine had it been handled properly, which it wasn't. We had an early reservation, so seating us should have been handled easily and professionally. Two or three different people approached us, but it still seemed clumsy. Then our waitress, although she really tried hard, was barely audible, and was obviously not trained properly. But add to that that all the other staff were congregating around where I guess the food came out talking, slouching, playing rock, paper scissors. I've never seen anything like it. Clearly there wasn't anyone in charge.
We came here with another couple this week. The cocktails (I tried both the Boulevardier -- which reminded me of a sweeter old fashioned -- and the Old Fashioned) are great. We also had the Mac and Cheese and Croquettes which were also very good.
The Croquettes are a must - they are balls of sweet dough (think donut holes but not as sweet, and a little harder) with parmesan cheese on top that wade in a sweet sauce. Accompanying the Croquettes are small slabs of melted cheese and a type of pork that reminded me of mortadella. We were instructed, and subsequently rewarded, to cut the Croquettes in half and make a sort of slider with the melted provolone and pork. It was amazing.
The server was very attentive and friendly. Will definitely come back.
Great brunch items
