Recommended in the MICHELIN Guide for California 2021-2023. Located in Oakland’s historic Grand Lake District, Bardo is a neighborhood lounge and restaurant inspired by the comfort and camaraderie of a mid-century dinner party. Drawing on the celebration and elegance of old school entertaining, we envisioned a space for friends and neighbors to enjoy amazing food, cocktails, conversation and great music.

Our lounge is a swank living room, furnished with hand-picked finds from antique and vintage markets from Palm Springs to Portland. Our mezzanine dining room features a rotating menu of fresh, seasonal supper-fare with local and sustainably sourced meats, fish and produce. While we think the food, drinks and atmosphere are all great reasons to visit us, it’s the relationships with our friends, neighbors and guests that is the driving force behind Bardo.

Food is always fantastic - but twice now service is barely mediocre. We had a reservation for the bar and there were only two other people at the bar. The bartender never asked if we wanted another round of drinks (we only had one), he never refilled our water once, and we had to ask another server for our check because - despite there only being two other people there - he was too busy taking shots with them to notice we were trying to flag him down.

We were able to get in on short notice and sat upstairs for the 1st time which maintains the nice decor of downstairs but it was a tad warm on Friday May 30 when the current heat wave began. My wife and I and friends have eaten here many times so for our more casual dinner on Friday our go-tos included the excellent and delicious deviled eggs, hamburger and fries, and a very creative spring salad with manchego cheese and almonds. Our waitperson Elena was delightful and we've enjoyed Jacob's wait service over the years as well. While we brought our own bottle of white wine, I broke down for a glass of red to go with my burger that was very mediocre (a pinot from the Willamette Valley in Oregon) which should have been much better for the price ($17). A glass of Talbott Kali Hart would have worked at a more reasonable price. Still we love the Bardo, and great location considering we went to catch an 8:45 showing of Freaky Tales at the Grand Lake Theater!

It is a quiet weeknight dinner for my spouse‘s birthday along with her adult son. We were treated well. The food was great and they remembered the special request regarding my spouse’s birthday.

such a fabulous night, would highly recommend going to this restaurant/lounge. Only complaint was the side plates were removed from people who didnt order appetizers and they didnt have plates when we wanted to share our appetizers. A small issue but otherwise, fabulous!!!

Jacob was a great guide to a fun menu. The chilled pea and asparagus soup and chicken liver mousse stood out but we look forward to a return visit.
