   Un petit resto italien vraiment sympathique , les proprios sont supers , la bouffe goûte vraiment l’Italie dans sa simplicité. Ambiance chaleureuse et la musique est top ! On y retourne :)

   We loved the ambiance and the exceptional service. The problem we had was the food was not hot, warm at best. I know it is not easy to keep plates hot but there was a deception there. I also had a comment on my reservation that stated it was my wife's birthday and there was no attention given to it. My thinking is it might have been a bad night but for me I will unfortunately not go back.

   Everything a restaurant should be - authentic, personal, honest, intimate, delicious. The food was excellent, the music was very good, the owner who took care of the dining room was friendly and attentive, and her young daughter who was there the night we went, added a pleasant family feel with her already expert assistance.

    The staff were amazing but the food was ok. It was not warm enough and were disappointing in general. It could have been more tasteful. My girlfriends and I have dinner in different restaurants around town every week. We kind of are experienced « fooders ». However the staff were impeccable. An other surprise was that they charged me over 8$ for a desert when I thought that it would be free as I had asked for a birthday cake as it was my birthday YAKES! Sorry guys 😒

    Nos plats étaient chouette mais sans plus. La serveuse était vraiment amatrice, a commis plusieurs fautes. On n’a pas pu savoir le prix de nos verres de vin à l’avance (serveuse ne savait pas), juste découvert le prix sur la facture. Étonnant pour un restaurant ouvert depuis des années... beaucoup d’improvisation.

    It was an outstanding experience. My wife and I were in Montreal while our daughter had an appointment nearby the restaurant. We did a search on ‘Open Table’ and chose Barcola as it was less than a KM away and other comments I read were positive. It was a Sunday before noon and the restaurant wasn’t too busy as yet and when we arrived we were warmly greeted by our young waiter who proved to be friendly - knowledgeable of wine and the menus - and very attentive without being annoying. The ambiance of Barcola is really warm and casual and the music selections (made by the chef we were told ) were great. I had a home made pea soup with huge croutons in it to start with an excellent salami/ cheese/ egg on a lovely bread and my wife had a lamb roast she said was excellent. We let the waiter choose our wine and he did an admirable job. I had a cappuccino and an expresso/ sweet thing for desert that I cannot remember the name of - but the was worth the trip to Montreal just for that! The bill came which was very reasonable and we were on our way with a lovely memory from the holidays. Simply stated, we would encourage you to visit Barcola.

    Unfortunately we were disappointed. Although we had a reservation for three, We were seated at the back at a table for two with an extra chair added at the end of a long lead Corredor leading to the kitchen. We had to ask them to turn the music down which they did. We ordered bruschetta to share but they did not tell us that it was really a dish for one person and we were left to carve it ourselves. We had a very long wait to be served our main course and one dish arrived three or four minutes before the other two of us were served. Two of us had a gnocchi with shrimp but we’re disappointed to find that the shrimp were cold, baby shrimp of the frozen variety. We Live in the neighbourhood and we’re happy to see a local restaurant recommended as one of the top Italian restaurants of the city. With only four items on the entree menu, The choices were limited and nothing we ate justified positive reviews. Overall very disappointing and we shall not return. There a better restaurants out there.

    Barcola BistroResponded on August 4, 2019I would like to make a couple of things clear : 1. Entrees in a restaurants are usually for one person, unless it's written otherwise. 2. Most shrimp you eat in restaurants are frozen. Since you came to visit us during the local (Gaspesie and NB) shrimping season, you had FRESH shrimp on your plate. Before making assumptions about the quality of what you eat, ask a waiter, ask the chef, send a bloody email to the restaurant instead of leaving an uninformed review.
