Always a great atmosphere and the menu looks great. I always find myself a little underwhelmed with most menu items, but they are good. Just nothing to go bonkers over. That being said, the prime rib on the weekends is absolutely to die for.
Brunch Food Location Was Not Great. SaucE For Someof The Entrees Was NoT Sufficient.
Adding a "service fee" not gratuity in addition to a set buffet price is outrageous.
Everything was perfect!
We recently dined at Barclay's. The food was fine, the service was basically fine although there seems to be a pecking order. The person who poured water could not bring us a menu. Bread and butter were not offered by anyone and when we asked about it were told it was available upon request. We requested it but it came after our entrees were served. Everything was fine but certainly not remarkable and a bit rough around the edges. That said, we will return because it's in the neighborhood.
We could take our time. <3
I usually have a wonderful experience at Barclay's but this time... not so much. Service was extremely slow. Not just the waitstaff but the food took over an hour to be served. It was a Sunday night and the restaurant was not that busy. The shrimp that I ordered was salty and found out that the shrimp was pre-marinated and they were unable to provide me with an alternative.
Really enjoyed the beet salad appetizer and the quinoa burger. Good selection of beers.
My grandma's retirement food was the first thing I thought of when tasting the food. I concluded the nursing home food tasted better. The alcohol selection was good and the service was okay.
An excellent neighborhood, near the city, worth the drive from almost anywhere! Barclay's stands out among the best of dining experiences. Service is always great. Menu is wonderful. One of my favorite locations for dining for more than 15 years - even if they did remodel, change the name and cancel live entertainment. It's great for a great meal. Very highly recommended.
Always a great meal and a great time
I'm not sure why Poor Phil's next door (owned by same management) is always so good, but this place is not so good. Never had a good meal here at Barclay's.
is delicious and, with a real baked potato, is worth the trip. Good cocktail special.
Comfortable. Don't know much about other dishes.
Had a great time hosting my book group there. Everyone was very attentive and we appreciated the somewhat secluded space that wasn't so close to other diners. Everyone enjoyed their food as well! Brussel sprouts with bacon is always a fav. Been here a few times before and it's never super crowded which is good for me
Great energy and specials.
Great atmosphere. Bar tvs for sports fans and there are a few booths with small tvs for just the table. The food is great!! Smaller place so if it's a busy night recommend reservations
This was the second year in a row that we went to the Thanksgiving buffet. We like the traditional menu that suits our elementary aged kids. We were not disappointed. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the many desserts. We will go back again next year. The only downside is the arrangement of the space. There are some areas that are difficult to navigate with a full plate and busy staff coming and going.
We we for the Thanksgiving Buffet. I really don't know what their regular menu is like.
The space for food set up was a little awkward. I didn't even see the salad area until after my meal and I saw salad on someone else's plate. If they had a better set up, I would have rated it higher. Once we were seated our waitress really didn't come to check on us. We needed more water. It was very crowded and loud, we walked into people, etc. The food was superb and I'm very grateful that we could go somewhere to eat on Thanksgiving.
I was staying in the Carleton Hotel where the Barclay is located. I chose it for the convenience of the group I was meeting with, all of whom were staying in the hotel. It was very loud on a Saturday night, but when we went back on a Tuesday night it was much easier for our group of six to talk among ourselves. The menu was extensive enough to eat there twice in the period of a few days and still feel like there were dishes that we wanted to try. The golden beet salad was really good as were the whipped sweet potatoes. The latter came with some entrees but could be requested as a substitute with others. Two of us had the braised pork shoulder. It was good and the presentation was very nice but it definitely wasn't braised. It seemed to have been finished under a broiler. It's not that the result wasn't tasty, it was just not what was expected. There was a vegetarian in our group and there was enough for her to choose from (and enjoy).
Barclay's has become our "go to" place when we're looking for a nice evening out. We've never had a bad experience there. The service is always excellent and so is the food.
Consistently solid something for everyone here. The night we were here they were showing playoff baseball, hockey, and nfl football. Electric atmosphere with really friendly service. I love this place
This is a sports bar with separate, but adjacent dining area.
Fish taco appetizers quite good
while the grilled meat loaf was nothing special ,accompanied by salty chicken gravy.
Oreo cheesecake also quite good.
Enjoyable, not fine dining, and a bit over priced
I love Barclay's outdoor dining on a quiet street. Our entrees were excellent. The only disappointments were the mediocre key lime pie that seemed it had been frozen and the lack of rolls or bread. I wondered why were were given bread plates. The prices aren't low but the servings are ample, the quality high and the setting quiet. Inside the restaurant is noisy.
We eat here a lot and it's always top-notch. From burgers to a fancy steak, it's yummy in the whole family's tummy.
Restaurant substitutes quantity for quality. Food is bland, presentation fit for a greasy spoon diner. One bright spot, glad to see septarian waiters still on their job. Under previous ownership this was a premier dining spot in Oak Park. As it is now, we hope it can soon be replaced by a restaurateur eager to please the discriminating local palates.
As a party of six everyone ordered something different and everyone was pleased with
their food. Third time there in the last two months and it has been very consistant!
great outdoor patio! Great service! Great local place in Oak Park!
My wife and I love dining at Barclays, becase the food is always good and so is the servoce. We definitely would recommend it to our friends.
We were a party of five and we had great service even though 4 of us ended up arriving late because of a really bad rainstorm. Great views of TVs for watching a hockey game and as we expected the noise level went with an exciting game so no complaints. I have been to Barclay's before and had a much quieter conversation level dinner. After this visit Barclay's moves up on my list of places I will suggest.
My Wife and I have been going to this restaurant while it was called Philanders. We watched the migration to Barclays, and have totally enjoyed both restaurants. It's truely a neighborhood jem.
Barclay's is our choice when we want a restaurant that offers good service, great food and a choice of noise level. We always ask for seating on "the quiet side" of the restaurant. There is a divider between bar seating and the rest of the restaurant. A nice touch and one that has influenced us. We don't care to watch a game and listen to the cheers (or boos) during our meal.
Set in the heart of Oak Park within blocks of the Metra, Barclay's has amazing small plates such as "Steak Bites" and Shrimp BLT tacos. Best Gimlet and amazing blueberry lemon cake!!
Seafood is their forte. Very good fresh entrees!
Great service and the ribs were outstanding! Would recommend the food any time!
This occasion was for holiday brunch that the restaurant prepares but it is served in various large public rooms of the Carleton Hotel. The actual restaurant is closed. The brunch is plentiful. Food is well prepared and beautifully displayed/served. Tables were placed with plenty of room to move about and also attractively set.
Some of the food items: breads, rolls, sweet rolls, fruits, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, waffles, made-to-order omelettes, crisp cooked vegetables, salads, chicken and fish dishes, carvery stations for beef and ham, shrimp, bagels and lox ..... Desserts aplenty -- and each is a small portion so that many can e tried. Apple pie, chocolate mousse, tiramisu, cheesecake, and more.
Have been there for a number of special holiday occasions and have never been disappointed.
food and service good/nice. Over 200.00(including tip) for 4 people dining(4meals,2 appetizers) and 2 take home diners. Only one alcohol drink ordered. Not for a budget/large family unless you are loaded in my opinion. Our second time there, still like the place.
We love Barclay's. Q wonderful eclectic menu with an items that will satisfy everyone in a group with very diverse tastes. One of our favorite spots in Oak Park for dinner.
We dined the other night, which was a special occasion our wedding anniversary.
The wine from California Russian River Area was superb, We both enjoyed our meals,
the service was fast, but one did feel as if they were be pushed to hurry up. I had noted
the occasion when I made our reservation, did not expect anything, but really surprised
when they brought us desert on the house. I would recommend this restaurant.
We will return in the future.
went to Barclay for Oak Park Foodie Fest..they did not state what the choices were on their web site and never would have gone for that al;one had I known..poor single option of chopped salad, chicken provenciale and 2 scoops gelato..not inspiring for repeat visit.
Dined from regular menue and my trout and wifes' whitefish were good not great..
Wine selection of meritage quite good.
entrees came too soon after appetizer so timing not ideal
would return with lesser expectations
