Barclay's American Grille Ratings and Reviews
Excellent service. Food was delicious with generous portions. Server was attentive and very genuine. Atmosphere was pleasant. We went for my mother's birthday and it was perfect. Not too crowded. Not loud. Can see this restaurant as good for families, as well as for an adult night out/parties. Very fine establishment.
We were there for the Thanksgiving buffet. In general the food was very good. It included shrimp, lox and prime rib. We had a later reservation and they ran out of prime rib before we could get any. However, when I complained they did come up with more. The disappointments were that the turkey was a skinless breast, not a real turkey and that be the time we got to dessert there wasn't any pumpkin pie left. That's poor planning. If they had had extra I'm sure the employees would have been happy to take some home.
It was packed. We appreciated that they were open for us.
Third year in a row for Thanksgiving was a bit disappointing compared to previous years. No whipped cream for pumpkin pie (I suppose we could have flagged down our server and asked her - bartender probably had some). No pecan pie. New pan of string beans was cold. Only white turkey meat???? Would have rather seen Chef carving from a real turkey instead of the pressed roll or whatever that was -- very dry and tasteless.
Round sports bar section completely filled for Cubs World Series game. Reservation was just after Happy Hour and we were seated next to the round bar filled with very excited participants. Many TVs with adequate views from a couple of directions. Food was good enough and service was friendly.
Barclay's has a new chef - the standard of the food has not changed. There are some new dishes and new ingredients to favorites. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Will miss former chef/he often stopped by to say hello. It will be important for new chef to also become 'table friendly' - Love Barclay's.
Barclay's is a favorite place when we feel like going out to eat. We always have a good experience there -- the food and the service are just the best.
One thing I love about the place is how nice the staff is. There are smiles aplenty from everyone who works there. I really like how this restaurant is set up. I always ask for a table on the quiet side. The space is divided, with the bar and big screen TV on one side and a quiet area with booth and tables on the other. If you're on the quiet side, you're scarcely aware of the other part of the place.
So I'd recommend it for a quiet, cozy "together" evening.
My guest and I had the ribs. The meat fell off the bone. I thought more seasoning in the meat was justified other than the barbecue sauce that topped it. The restaurant was not busy but the service was slow. At most the restaurant had about 25% occupancy with people dining outside.
Barclays has a great menu. The beer, wine and drink list is very good. I would definitely recommend it.
We recently dined at Barclay's. The food was fine, the service was basically fine although there seems to be a pecking order. The person who poured water could not bring us a menu. Bread and butter were not offered by anyone and when we asked about it were told it was available upon request. We requested it but it came after our entrees were served. Everything was fine but certainly not remarkable and a bit rough around the edges. That said, we will return because it's in the neighborhood.
I usually have a wonderful experience at Barclay's but this time... not so much. Service was extremely slow. Not just the waitstaff but the food took over an hour to be served. It was a Sunday night and the restaurant was not that busy. The shrimp that I ordered was salty and found out that the shrimp was pre-marinated and they were unable to provide me with an alternative.
An excellent neighborhood, near the city, worth the drive from almost anywhere! Barclay's stands out among the best of dining experiences. Service is always great. Menu is wonderful. One of my favorite locations for dining for more than 15 years - even if they did remodel, change the name and cancel live entertainment. It's great for a great meal. Very highly recommended.
Had a great time hosting my book group there. Everyone was very attentive and we appreciated the somewhat secluded space that wasn't so close to other diners. Everyone enjoyed their food as well! Brussel sprouts with bacon is always a fav. Been here a few times before and it's never super crowded which is good for me
