The place is loud and the tables are small - but who cares as the food is FABULOUS. Prices are reasonable and the service was very good. Very convenient to the Opera House if going to a ballet or opera. Will definitely go back!
I’ve spent time in Barcelona and other parts of Spain. Food here was mediocre and not at all authentic. Octopus serving was tiny. Nothing Spanish about this place, will not be going back.
Only knock on the whole experience was that my gin and tonic cam only with gin.
The food was excellent, as was the sangria. The shrimp tapas were our favorite, but it was all great. The restaurant is beautiful.
Lots of good flavors, with flavorful jams for the cheeses, and extra bits on the omelette, etc. My date and I had a very fun experience there. It's noisy of course, but we had no issues hearing each other. Service was on-time and solicitous.
I’m super disappointed that our experience from the moment we walked in turned out the way it did. My reso was for 5 people at 630. 5 adults, but one 4 mo old. I made the reso, so I didn’t know you need to include the kid as a full person — I’ve seen plenty of high chairs at tables before. Anyway, the host/hostess gave us so much guff. Just the attitude made us feel awkward. They offered a larger table (the oval one) but said we’d need to be out by 815. We were happy with the four top booth, with a chair capped. And the stroller was totally not in the way of other people — but they said we could only have the stroller there if we “didn’t disturb the other guests experiences”. Wow ok. My husband has a peanut allergy. We ordered a salad with persimmons and what seemed at first like legit peanut butter on the bottom. Despite telling our server that he had a peanut allergy (she did say she would check), it was dropped off without any explanation that the sauce might seem like peanut butter. When we asked her, she said “Ohhh no it’s not but it really looks like it doesn’t it?? It’s made of almonds and blah blah blah...” and at that point we were like ok it’s weird you wouldn’t have warned us and assured us it wasn’t peanut butter. When he asked for a fresh plate (he had served himself salad, then decided not to risk it because people w severe allergies don’t enjoy things that taste like the things that can kill them) the server rolled her eyes. Next, when we originally ordered, my friend asked if you had olives. She was talking about olives all day and just really wanted them. Sadly, you don’t have them on the menu. But then halfway through dinner, she saw a ginormous bucket of olives taken out behind the bar, plates in a bowl and served to a couple at the bar. My friend asked the server about them and this is what just topped it all off. The server replies, “Ohhh we do have some olives but those are only for good friends of the chef!” Sorry what? Left feeling bad.
we had an excellent meal before a concert. We ranged from 65-92 years old. We had the squash and pomegranate salad and the pescator paella. The waitress was very helpful and had the dish prepared without clams and mussels to which one of us had an allergy. The music was a little loud and she turned it down. The amount of food was just right for us. The paella was dramatic with black rice and shrimp fish and small squid with lots of flavor and crusty rice on the bottom of the pan.
All in all a very good dining experience. We have come to Barcino about 6 times now and have not been disappointed. Reservations are in order for pre-concert dining.
We really loved the food here, we tried a number of the shared dishes, and all were delicious. I would highly recommend the Gambas, succulent prawns in a garlic-wine sauce. The patatas bravas were crispy and perfect, but I would have liked a little more heat in the sauce. Their wine and spirit list is quite extensive, and we found a Rioja Tempranillo from Spain that was the perfect accompaniment. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the service timely and attentive. The location is convenient, just one block from Davies Hall, the War Memorial Opera House, and City Hall. We will definitely go back to try the paella on our next visit.
Staff was attentive but not intrusive. Food was delicious. Table was ready at the reserved time. A good value.
The food was good. The service could improve. The waiter was not attentive as you would like. Even the host could have been more professional. When I asked for bathroom to the host, she wasn't bad, but not very helpful.
Lovely dishes and excellent service
Wedding dinner reception for 8 people
My friend and I enjoy our pre-opera dinner. The staff was aware that we needed to get to the theater on time, the tapas were perfect to share and the Spanish vermouth cocktails outstanding!
Food was excellent. Great drink menu as well. If you like gin and tonics, that's their specialty.
This place is consistently excellent in the quality of food, creative and elegant. Their staff always warm and friendly. It is my go to place before or after concerts, birthdays and just for a bite and drinks.
Not very authentic Spanish food- I've been to Spain. Mostly, the chairs (the low ones) are VERY uncomfortable. Sitting for a leisurely meal wasn't very relaxing - no matter the amount of liquor consumed. We had an 8:30pm reservation and arrived early and were seated immediately which was great. BUT... we started with one waiter and then barely into ordering our meal he introduced another waiter and said he was taking a break. Then later he came back and took over. The waiter that stepped in for him was rushed and it felt ackward all around.
Fabulous in all categories! Superior food and many choices! Going back in two weeks! Highly recommend!
Really good location for symphony. Service attentive; oysters great and other food OK. Background music totally unneeded and contributed to the excess noise.
This place has the best paella! It is hard to eat any other paella after this place.
The hostess that particular evening was not very friendly, our server was ok. I asked him for a particular gin drink that I had there last year and he gave me a not so friendly reply of "when was the last time you were here, umm that was like 2 years ago" I really didn't want to argue with him, I wanted to have a good time with my friends. I guess he wanted us to buy a bottle or something, which we would have but he was so flippant towards us that we changed our mind. In the middle of our meal they switched our server and we never got one of our orders. I asked our new server where is the octopus that we ordered, he told us he would check and we never heard back about the octopus. I didnt feel like asking about it anymore we were already full from the meal we ate. We got desert and left, we wont back until you guys work on your customer service, being nice is not uncool and is part of your chosen profession.
Great food and cocktails! Get the octopus - yum! Love the ambience and easy to get to by public transportation. Didn’t love the wines but the rose sangria was lovely! Will be back
Server knew NOTHING about wine.; he insisted on only describing as "light, medium, or full bodied" and could not answer questions that strayed from that immature, unhelpful format. Patatas were undercooked and used russet potatoes, resulting in a grainy texture. Kind of lukewarm, too. Won't be back.
Accidentally deleted my reservation the day of and wasn't able to remake it via OpenTable so I left a voicemail for the restaurant. They returned my call early morning and reinstated the reservation for me. Was seated at a booth which was quiet enough for conversation. Tapas dishes were good though some were harder to share than others (although how to share 2 octopus tentacles?) and were not inexpensive. Standout dessert was the churros served with cinnamon whipped cream and a milk chocolate sauce. I was surprised that the chocolate sauce didn't work that well with the churros. Maybe if it was a dark chocolate? Flavors were fun and food was well executed. Staff is fantastic. Thank you for going above and beyond Absinthe Group!
Went bar for cocktails the next night since it had a great feel to the place.
The food was excellent but the service rushed. Mains arrived before the appetizers were cleared. Not ok at any price and especially at these!
Even though we told waiter we had to leave by set time, once dish never came and the waiter wasn’t keeping us appraised. We left having only had 2 tapas instead of 3 and it wasn’t the meal we’d planned on.
Nice food and the pricing doesn’t
Break the bank
Tried the vegetarian paella for the first time and enjoyed it. Only suggestion would be to have fewer potatoes and possibly add some varieties of mushrooms!
Get in early to enjoy happy hour. The meatballs and bistec were delicious. We needed extra bread to get every last bit of the sauces.
Barcino’s version of a Negroni was perfect accompaniment to all the dishes we tried.
Food and service were excellent. Loved the salad with avocado and cucumbers and the tortilla (egg and potato omelette) the best. Great place for dinner before jazz or symphony
Food is fabulous and the atmosphere is relaxed and fun.
A very good place to go before an opera or the symphony.
Barcino was a breath of fresh air. The dishes were prepared to perfection and the cocktails were delicious.
The food, drinks and ambiance were lovely. The manager was very helpful. Our server was polite, but unfocused and lacked any enthusiasm. Will return thiugh
The food is decent, but not worth the pricetag. We spent $370 on okay food for 3 people.
The food was excellent.
The service was OK - the best were the bus boys - they were efficient and friendly. The waiters were a bit into themselves - definitely not concerned with customers. The same applies to the hostess.
Too bad the staff was not wonderful - the evening could have been so much nicer if they had been.
Went to celebrate sister getting a new job! Staff was friendly, attentive. Food delicious. Great night, we’ll come back!
Awful food in a diner-like setting. I was just in Spain this summer and this was an absolute slap in the face. Would have rather eaten fast food
