Join us for a fun Spanish themed wine tasting with delicious Spanish tapas in Leicester. Suitable for any one from beginner to enthusiast. The tasting will include a selection of 8 fine Spanish and Latin American wines paired with delicious traditional Spanish tapas. All food requirements are catered for. You will learn more about wines and have a fun evening in the same time. The tasting will take place at Barceloneta Restaurant in Leicester. Topics covered: 8 Wines and tapas! How to taste wine – The way the experts do Old World vs New World styles The major styles of wine, with fine wines from around the Spanish speaking world Blind tastings to test your new knowledge Food pairing with Barceloneta delightful tapas As well as any other topics you want to ask about (as long as they are wine-related). The wine tasting is presented by Nicky Ladwiniec, a Leicestershire based Wine Educator, has a Diploma from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET). Nicky got the wine bug after spending a year in Burgundy during her University days after which she applied for Majestic Wine's graduate program which took her in to the world of wine retail for several years before moving in to Wine Public Relations, organising press trips and trade events for some of the best-known vinous regions including Rioja, Bordeaux and California. The tapas tradition is the delightful Spanish custom of gathering at ‘Tascas’ (watering holes providing food) for a glass of sherry, wine or beer & sampling a range of different dishes amongst friends. Tapas is fun & informal. Here at Barceloneta we also provide raciones (larger portion dishes), both in the menu & on our regularly changing Special Boards. As well as Spain, our food is influenced from other regions of Mediterranean & of the wider Latin world. So, grab yourself a drink, order your dishes & away you go. I lived in Leicester for years and Barceloneta/Dos Hermanos was always a go to for group dinners and weekend brunches. I thought it would be a great pre theatre place and a treat based on past experiences…however, it was disappointing. The website advertised an express menu which looked like great value, but a tiny poster as you went in said that it was Monday-Wednesday (we went on a Thursday). Inside, the music was tinny and the tables crammed in. The dishes were good, but lacked herbs and garlic. Our waitress (sorry!) seemed disengaged and we had to catch her and ask to order after 15 minutes of being there. I used the bathroom in Dos Hermanos next door and was pleased to see that it still has the double loos for going in with friends, which was a super cool thing to do, but overall the whole place seemed tired and stuck in a bit of time warp. Maybe that’s good for some, but with the rest of Queens Road so vibrant and energetic, the nostalgia was quickly replaced by disappointment that it doesn’t have the welcome and energy that I used to feel from going there before when it was such an experiential place to dine. Maybe it’s different at weekends, but it was nearly the weekend!

Hello Lorna, Thank you for your valuable review. It was a pleasure to host and see you back in Barceloneta restaurant after many years. The Barceloneta Express menu is served from Monday to Wednesday only between 5pm to 6pm which is also advertised on the website. We don't serve the Express menu besides those days. The staff being disengaged is clearly a training issue from our side which we are working on to improve, So our customers get the best experience at Barceloneta. We look forward to serving you soon at Barceloneta.
