Named "Best French Restaurant, populist vote" by Mpls St. Paul Magazine (CLICK HERE to see our menus), Barbette has also received "best of's" from local press for its late night dining, neighborhood night on sundays, desserts, wine list, date spot, music, and, of course, those French fries that accompany the steak frites. We use local and organic ingredients as often as possible, presenting beautiful food in a casual, eclectic, bistro atmosphere. We only book a percentage of our restaurant with reservations and hold tables for walk-ins on a daily basis. All walk-ins are seated on a first come first served basis. Barbette does not accept checks.

Barbette Ratings and Reviews
So loud my husband couldn’t hear me talk throughout dinner. Asked our waiter what he recommended, he shrugged, thought about it and said that he has had the Burratta and Chicken. (Note that he didn’t “recommend” it. Ordered the Burratta which was strange. I had the chicken, my husband ordered the Salmon. Both underwhelming. Would we recommend (shrugs), nope!
I made a reservation, arrived at 10 mins before, subsequently seated outside- at the corner of the building in the full mid-morning sun. When I requested another table, I was denied because I was dining alone. Fully disappointed.
The espresso was nothing special, and the French toast was good, but a small portion without a side item. Lots of yellow jackets flying around the outdoor seating area.
I'll try somewhere else in Minneapolis for brunch next time I'm in town.
The service was good, however- friendly waitress.
unfortunately a couple problems.
The nicoise salad meant to be an entree for a vegetarian was on the small side and the coho salmon came undercooked which the kitchen fixed but then one of our people had to wait.
Also, a mouse ran across the floor. I've seen one before when sitting outside on the patio but this was indoors
Barbette's French toast on authentic baguette is the best in the Twin Cities. There was a bit too much blueberry compote for my liking, but the ft was cooked well and finished to perfection. Their fresh-squeezed orange juice is worth the splurge, but half a portion would be sufficient. It would be nice if they offered a better choice of veggie omelet and the toast was a tastier multi-grain. I was looking for a serene, relaxed enviro to have breakfast with my husband the day b4 hip surgery, and Barbette was nearly perfect, since the food was not delivered when ready and the coffee not as hot as we like it. This is definitely a neighborhood gem.
Met some friends for an early meal on Labor Day. We got there before brunch so it wasn't busy and we were able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather! Our waitress was great...attentive but not too chatty. The four of us each had something different to eat and we all enjoyed our meals. I also enjoyed my Bloody Mary. :-) A cute little place with great outdoor seating...will definitely venture back another time, hopefully for the Prix Fixe meal for a date night.
We were celebrating our anniversary of our meeting. It was a lovely walk around the lake then a glass of wine on your sidewalk tables. We had to return to the scene! This time for dinner and drinks. Everything was wonderful! We will be back, and more often.
I've been dining at Barbette for many years and have always enjoyed the food and ambiance. I hadn't been to Barbette for awhile and during this visit I found the food to be uninspiring, the art to be lackluster, and the rest room facilities decrepit. In general the place needed to be cleaned. Very disappointing experience overall.
The food was awesome, the service was awesome, pricing slightly high. Felt like we were sitting in the middle of a business meeting because of the table next to us. They were actually having a business meeting and at high volume. Very disturbing. We let the waiter know how upsetting it was. Would still recommend because of the food, not the ambience
