As a pop up restaurant operating inside another establishment it’s a little hard to figure out you are at the right place. But once you do it is well worth it. The food was authentic, very flavorful, and overall great Greek/Mediterranean dishes. It’s a small crew so service is spotty at times but the food is worth waiting for a refill.
Try the Greek fries and the blackened salmon or lamb shank and you can’t go wrong. Finish it off with homemade baklava and you’ve had your fill for the night.
We were at first confused on the location because this is a "pop up" endeavor inside another restaurant, so pay attention to the number above the door carefully! However, it was worth circling back to find it. The service was fabulous and the food was wonderful. We shared the Greek Fries and although it has cheese and a gravy, was not heavy at all. The greek salad was fresh and flavorful, but the high point was the argentine gyro. The bread was warm and ever so slightly crisp at the edges while the meat was roasted nicely. The very best thing were the chimi-churri and avocado sauces that elevated the humble gyro to a cut above. The fries that came with it were crispy and just a good solid contrast to the sauciness of the gyro. We would highly recommend Barbarossa Brothers to anyone who wants a fusion of various tastes well put together.
A group of us wanted to try this hidden gem and were not disappointed. Two of us has the salmon w pasta and two of us had the lamb shank. Both were outstanding.
The food was wonderful. We enjoyed the lamb shank, blacked salmon pasta and rib-eye. (We all shared bites). Super friendly place. I was glad I had read an earlier review that told me this was the same place as Sam's (by day) or we would have had a hard time finding it.
Mostly known as Sam’s sandwich shop during the day becomes Barbarossa Bros at night. Had several appetizers including the veggie platter with hummus which was quite good and plentiful as well as the Greek Fries which I would recommend as well. The lamb shank was quite delicious as was the shrimp and pasta dish. However don’t let that the fact that it’s listed under small plates fool you as it was just about enough for two people to eat.
Only downside is parking but certainly plenty of garages just a block or two away if you can’t find a spot along the street. I’d give them two thumbs up!
Spices truly authentic. Recommend the spice rubbed shrimp and couscous appetizer. The Mediterranean veggie sampler great way to start the meal.
This was our first time eating here as it recently opened. My wife and I were accompanied by our two adult children. Our first impression from the street is that it looked like a diner that may have been closed as there was very little lighting inside and not much signage outside other than the large "Sam's" sign. Upon closer inspection we saw the menu in the window and a small sandwich board sign outside indicating we were in the right place.
We promptly greeted by their very friendly hostess who invited us to have a seat. I mentioned it was very dark as they had most of the lights shut off to try and give it a different vibe from the diner atmosphere. I think they would benefit from having some other soft lighting to give it a better ambiance for their customers. It was around 7:00 on a Friday night and there was only one other table with customers seated so it was very quiet.
We started out with the vegetarian platter which consisted of hummus, falafel, pickled turnips with honey mustard sauce and pita. The falafel was among the very best we have had. The rest was excellent and made for a great combination of flavors. For our mains, two of us had the the Mediterranean spiced shrimp and the others had blackened salmon - one with pasta and the other with vegetables. The hostess recommended the pasta and she was correct - it was very delicious. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the shrimp had great flavor. We were not disappointed!! The portion sizes were large and the meal was very filling.
The service was excellent and our hostess kept our water glasses filled and made sure we had everything we needed. As we were rather full from our meal we did not order any dessert but the chef came out and brought us a plate of Baklava. Our daughter noted it was the best she had ever tasted.
By the time we left, we were all very impressed and this restaurant exceeded our initial expectations! They deserve top ratings for food and service!!
Good food. Probably a better lunch destination than dinner. Ambiance is non-existent. Servings are huge.
The food here was wonderful. The tables were set up beautifully and the place was filled with intoxicating aromas from the open kitchen. I attended the soft opening and was not disappointed. I ordered the lamb shank, which was a large and delectable portion of food. My sister ordered the Cajun shrimp pasta bowl, which was also to die for. I will definitely be coming back. I was not disappointed!
