Barbalu is the marriage (literally) of husband and wife team Stefano BARBAgallo and Adriana LUque.Their new Italian restaurant opened during fall 2013, just a stones throw from the South Street Seaport. The couple prove their continued commitment to this historic district with the decision to rebuild in the same location as their old restaurant Barbarini, which was completely destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.

Great food and service. Never disappoints! I hope they will reopen soon!
Perfect. Food is incredible and so is the service. Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in NYC
fagottini is amazing! bread was ok, service kind of slow
Randomly selected this place and extremely happy with our decision. Burrata was delicious, pasta was cooked to perfection and the desserts were excellent.
Fantastic Food! The Norcina was the best I’ve ever had! Great spot when you are downtown!
Took my boyfriend for his birthday and he loved it!
👌🏼 great place, quiet, great food and wine
FOOD- ATMOSPHERE- FRIENDLY VIBE- This place has it all!
Every dish - from the familiar to the reinvented classics - was perfectly prepared, generous and simply delicious. The wine list is hand picked by the owner (Stefano!) and so be sure to ask for suggestions as there are many wines not widely available in the US. The special items were fantastic - such a nice variety and everything was very fresh. The tiramisu and cannolis were the perfect finish.
Food is always excellent, ambiance perfect, service very good.
the pear infused pasta was the best dish I have ever had .... this place is a must visit
It took long time for servers to take our order
It was closed when we arrived!!!
Something doesn’t work with open table or the restaurant
Disappointed
The place was nice and cozy, food was good but I could tell it had been heated in microwave. Service not so good, we arrived a little earlier (15 mins) than our rsvp and the not so nice guy who said was the manager asked us to come back later (20 mins post rsvp) because they were having a private event. Not so accommodating. After we went back and ordered our food and drinks we felt very rushed by waiters. One of them made faces, bus boy said something about closing. They clearly wanted to go home but as we were leaving we noticed we were not even the last ones to leave. The whole experience was a little unpleasant so we would not go back to this restaurant plus there are so many other great options in the area.
Order the pear ricotta faggotini!
Such a cute and quaint restaurant with great food and service. Would come by often if I lived a little closer. You can tell the owners put a lot of pride in their place.
Amazing food and service. The pasta is delicious. I will be returning.
My new fave everyday Italian restaurant. Prices are reasonable, food is great and ambiance just right. I’ll definitely be back.
Amazing food, great ambiance, service was excellent!
Anniversary dinner, really nice, try the polenta cake with mushrooms
It was 2nd time there. And from reservation to check - it was good experience.
I am a super senior who grew up in a tenement in the Bronx with Italian neighbors all around and enjoyed what is now known by my yuppie friends as "red sauce Italian" food, which was homemade, home cooked and delicious. Barbalu was again a great place with really good food and service.
For me 5 stars are perfection - I think nothing is perfect -- but "youse guys and your place are up there."
Good food, good wines, great service. A non-pretentious neighborhood restaurant.
Wonderful. Spaghetti with Sausage and cream was incredible. Can't wait to come back in a few weeks.
Our waiter Hector was knowledgeable on everything!! We had dietary concerns and he reassured us and everything was delicious!!! The food was terrific the service was wonderful overall had a lovely evening!!! Would definitely recommend this restaurant....
I love this place. I always look for a reason to come here. Food is amazing, atmosphere is excellent and service is great! If you haven't been it's a must visit.
Barbalu is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the city. Perfect from anything like dinner with the girls to a date night. You need to try the pear ricotta fagotini!
Great dood and ambience, will definitely dine again
We love this place. The food is well proportioned and well prepared. The wait staff is attentive, the ambiance pleasant. A good place for business lunches or to meet friends. It never disappoints.
Great vibe. Great food.
The restaurant itself was very cute and well lit. The food was absolutely incredible. We got the burrata and prosciutto appetizer and it was perfect. I got the spaghetti with sausage and cream all norcina and it was probably one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. Definitely a solid spot, and not too hard on the wallet either.
Great for date night and hanging out with friends in general.
We had a terrific lunch here after walking around the Seaport on a rainy afternoon. The ambience is rustic urban and very inviting. All four of us really enjoyed our entrees. The fish was wild caught and prepared beautifully. We also loved the cheese platter with an excellent choice of cheeses.
Food was delicious. Service was not great.
The food was great but despite our reservation, they gave us a crappy table.
Grilled Octopus one (1) piece in dish for appetizer YES ONE piece $19.00!!!!!! Food was good. Service left something to be desired. Maybe an off night.
Beautiful restaurant with great food just blocks from Pier 17. Both pasta dishes we had were outstanding
Food was absolutely amazing!
Great food all around. Pasta wonderful.
Always great consistent authentic food. Cool waiters.
A little gem of a restaurant. Great food. Warm, efficient service. And the server was well-informed about gluten free options on the menu and how those items were prepared. So helpful and appreciated. We really had a lovely experience and will definitely go back. Highly recommend.
A let down and embarrassment. Waitstaff apparently had a very poor connection means of English. Extra dry dirty martini I was anything but. I complained and she said thank yo and walked away? Had to ask for things multiple times.
Bufalo mozzarella over eggplant was flavorless.
Saffron Gnocchi with brown Butter and sage. There was not perceptible saffron, the supposed Brown Butter was no thing more than lots f barely melted butter.
Booked restaurant to meet two clients, I was quite embarrassed. Returned with check saying “no card”, apparently she dropped card on floor :-(((
