Barbalu is the marriage (literally) of husband and wife team Stefano BARBAgallo and Adriana LUque.Their new Italian restaurant opened during fall 2013, just a stones throw from the South Street Seaport. The couple prove their continued commitment to this historic district with the decision to rebuild in the same location as their old restaurant Barbarini, which was completely destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.

Nice outdoor seating on a cobbled stoned street. Good food and service.
You need to go now. Spectacular place. Kind people quality presentation. Loved it. Will return
Had a delicious dinner at Barbalu! Great food and perfect spot for dinner with friends or a date.
Food was excellent. Service was insanely slow. Waiter seemed resentful.
Love the setting and the menu. Antipasto dishes and all the meals were ordered were of high quality . Would definitely go back !
Appy and dessert were great gnocchi was overshadowed by pesto
Great food and amazing atmosphere
The pasta and sauces are delicious- the restaurant was calm and tables comfortably distant- staff attentive- lovely afternoon meal on a sunday
awesome food. amazing experience. Pasta is done very nicely
The food was incredible. We all shared meats and cheeses, and I split the seafood gnocchi special as well as the pear and ricotta fagottini with a friend. Everything was outstanding. The host even knew my name before I said *anything* when we walked in for the first time, and we were sat immediately.
They were very attentive and service was good. Menu choices were reasonable and reasonably varied. Comfortable atmosphere.
Service was slow. There was a sticker still on our tomato with the caprese salad. When the new salad was brought out, there was arugula instead of basil and the appetizer wasn’t plated as it originally was... sloppy presentation. Nothing was comped and we didn’t even get an apology. On top of that, the food took forever to come out. Wasn’t the best experience.
Not an intriguing selection on the menu. Salmon very average. Will choose one of the many other restaurants at the seaport in the future.
The server brought my date the wrong drink, and then put the correct drink in the wrong glass, and then spilled a bunch of the drink on my foot. When asked for bread, they said they only bring it after we’ve ordered food, which I found weird. Food was delicious though.
We loved the food but service was below underwhelming. I don’t think I’d come back for an experience but definitely the food.
The person seating us was also extremely rude which was off putting to begin with. They have no outdoor heaters and it was a weirdly cold night so we got out of there under 35 mins but couldn’t say enough good things about the food we ordered!
Good value for food and service they offer. We'll definitely be back in the future.
Excellent service, fantastic food and beautiful atmosphere!
Pasta was OMG
Children loud and not watched by parents
great place for a date or quiet spot away from pubs. service was great.
Too bad they took the burger out of their menu. But we definitely enjoyed our pasta dishes. Bucatini with lamb meatballs, saffron and brown butter gnocchi, black gnocchi with seafood, and the fagottini dish!
Delicious Pasta dishes were had by all. Zucchini and marinara appetizers was everybody's favorite. Casual atmosphere prices definitely on the higher end.
The food was delicious! We sat outside as it was a beautiful day but they have a nice indoor courtyard dining area with a skylight roof. I had the swordfish special which was cooked perfectly. My son had black pasta with shrimp which he really enjoyed. My husband had black gnocchi with seafood which he liked but didn't care for the shape of the gnocchi. They looked unappetizing he thought. Service was outstanding.
Our family had the best meal and time! Servers were great with us and our kids and food was phenomenal!
Service was excellent. Staff was very friendly. Inexpensive for large portions. Would highly recommend
The food wasn’t that good. I ordered penne with red sauce, the sauce tasted like the ocean. Way too salty. Do not order the mozzarella appetizer. It’s a rip off and it’s not good!
Service was fantastic. Very attentive and friendly. Food was outstanding! We will definitely go back!
Quality of food was Excellent. The only thing lacking was a limited selection of appetizers and main dishes.
Excellent local spot with great food, service, and wine. Keep coming back for one dish on a menu that never fails to impress. Our friends are coming over from uptown just for that one pasta and pretending they want to see us lol
Very nice quaint Italian place. Would come back again. Lovely place service and good for everyday dining
Great for a date night near SeaPort. Great food, good people.
Barbalu was amazing!!! Loved every thing about it and would recommend to anyone!
Blown away by the experience on only their first or second night back after re-opening. Incredible dinner - the food, the service, the ambiance, everything.
The best pasta ever. Service is great. Just a bit quiet in there
Wonderful food and service!
Great food and service. Never disappoints! I hope they will reopen soon!
Perfect. Food is incredible and so is the service. Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in NYC
fagottini is amazing! bread was ok, service kind of slow
