Barbalu is the marriage (literally) of husband and wife team Stefano BARBAgallo and Adriana LUque.Their new Italian restaurant opened during fall 2013, just a stones throw from the South Street Seaport. The couple prove their continued commitment to this historic district with the decision to rebuild in the same location as their old restaurant Barbarini, which was completely destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.

Delicious Pasta dishes were had by all. Zucchini and marinara appetizers was everybody's favorite. Casual atmosphere prices definitely on the higher end.
The food was delicious! We sat outside as it was a beautiful day but they have a nice indoor courtyard dining area with a skylight roof. I had the swordfish special which was cooked perfectly. My son had black pasta with shrimp which he really enjoyed. My husband had black gnocchi with seafood which he liked but didn't care for the shape of the gnocchi. They looked unappetizing he thought. Service was outstanding.
Our family had the best meal and time! Servers were great with us and our kids and food was phenomenal!
Service was excellent. Staff was very friendly. Inexpensive for large portions. Would highly recommend
The food wasn’t that good. I ordered penne with red sauce, the sauce tasted like the ocean. Way too salty. Do not order the mozzarella appetizer. It’s a rip off and it’s not good!
Service was fantastic. Very attentive and friendly. Food was outstanding! We will definitely go back!
Quality of food was Excellent. The only thing lacking was a limited selection of appetizers and main dishes.
Very nice quaint Italian place. Would come back again. Lovely place service and good for everyday dining
Great for a date night near SeaPort. Great food, good people.
Barbalu was amazing!!! Loved every thing about it and would recommend to anyone!
Blown away by the experience on only their first or second night back after re-opening. Incredible dinner - the food, the service, the ambiance, everything.
The best pasta ever. Service is great. Just a bit quiet in there
Wonderful food and service!
Great food and service. Never disappoints! I hope they will reopen soon!
Perfect. Food is incredible and so is the service. Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in NYC
fagottini is amazing! bread was ok, service kind of slow
Randomly selected this place and extremely happy with our decision. Burrata was delicious, pasta was cooked to perfection and the desserts were excellent.
Fantastic Food! The Norcina was the best I’ve ever had! Great spot when you are downtown!
Took my boyfriend for his birthday and he loved it!
👌🏼 great place, quiet, great food and wine
FOOD- ATMOSPHERE- FRIENDLY VIBE- This place has it all!
Every dish - from the familiar to the reinvented classics - was perfectly prepared, generous and simply delicious. The wine list is hand picked by the owner (Stefano!) and so be sure to ask for suggestions as there are many wines not widely available in the US. The special items were fantastic - such a nice variety and everything was very fresh. The tiramisu and cannolis were the perfect finish.
Food is always excellent, ambiance perfect, service very good.
the pear infused pasta was the best dish I have ever had .... this place is a must visit
It took long time for servers to take our order
It was closed when we arrived!!!
Something doesn’t work with open table or the restaurant
The place was nice and cozy, food was good but I could tell it had been heated in microwave. Service not so good, we arrived a little earlier (15 mins) than our rsvp and the not so nice guy who said was the manager asked us to come back later (20 mins post rsvp) because they were having a private event. Not so accommodating. After we went back and ordered our food and drinks we felt very rushed by waiters. One of them made faces, bus boy said something about closing. They clearly wanted to go home but as we were leaving we noticed we were not even the last ones to leave. The whole experience was a little unpleasant so we would not go back to this restaurant plus there are so many other great options in the area.
Order the pear ricotta faggotini!
Such a cute and quaint restaurant with great food and service. Would come by often if I lived a little closer. You can tell the owners put a lot of pride in their place.
Amazing food and service. The pasta is delicious. I will be returning.
My new fave everyday Italian restaurant. Prices are reasonable, food is great and ambiance just right. I’ll definitely be back.
Amazing food, great ambiance, service was excellent!
Anniversary dinner, really nice, try the polenta cake with mushrooms
It was 2nd time there. And from reservation to check - it was good experience.
I am a super senior who grew up in a tenement in the Bronx with Italian neighbors all around and enjoyed what is now known by my yuppie friends as "red sauce Italian" food, which was homemade, home cooked and delicious. Barbalu was again a great place with really good food and service.
For me 5 stars are perfection - I think nothing is perfect -- but "youse guys and your place are up there."
Good food, good wines, great service. A non-pretentious neighborhood restaurant.
Wonderful. Spaghetti with Sausage and cream was incredible. Can't wait to come back in a few weeks.
Our waiter Hector was knowledgeable on everything!! We had dietary concerns and he reassured us and everything was delicious!!! The food was terrific the service was wonderful overall had a lovely evening!!! Would definitely recommend this restaurant....
I love this place. I always look for a reason to come here. Food is amazing, atmosphere is excellent and service is great! If you haven't been it's a must visit.
