Comfortable environment, delicious dishes, and good service
Great small restaurant in Seaport. Feels like a locals hangout rather than a tourist spot, which is great. Excellent food and service.
Heard great things about this Italian restaurant and decided to finally take my dad their for his birthday and we weren’t disappointed. Reasonably priced and very attentive wait staff. Food was outstanding.
The most delicious pasta I’ve had since Italy.
We came in on a Friday evening and had a very smooth check-in, courteous and welcoming service, with the waitstaff seamlessly refilling water and taking away plates whenever necessary. All my friends and I enjoyed the cheese plate and pastas, and the wines were fantastic! I highly recommend this restaurant experience.
We were not rushed and it was very much appreciated
Ottima cucina, personale gentile e servizio ottimo!! Se volete mangiare italiano a New York qui lo trovate. Il ristorante è bellissimo ed è situato in una delle zone più belle e caratteristiche della città, il quartiere di Fulton vicino al porto. Rapporto qualità prezzo molto buono per New York!!! Consiglio vivamente!!!
Strange place: prawn and crab avocado salad was described by our waiter as a prawn in a shell with the head on. The prawn was minced in with the crab meat. Ok, tasted good, just strange description. Then dessert is called " warm souffle" it wasn't a souffle! It was warm chocolate lava cake. I wouldn't order it if i knew it wasn;t really a souffle. Otherwise the dinner was fine.
We had reservations, the waiter was extremely rude, he made us wait 30 minutes and sat a group at their table first even though they came in 20 minutes after us. I made a complaint, so they sat us near the dirty dish busser, although there were multiple tables open, it was practically an empty restaurant. The sauce on my pasta was bland, food was cold. I feel like we were given bad service intentionally because I complained about service. Don't eat here. There's many great places on the same street.
Good service, reasonable prices and menu. Convenient option at the Seaport
Enjoyed our meal. Good variety on menu. The atmosphere is very nice. Arrived while still day light, and could see outside through sun room roof. As it started to get darker, the warm interior really shined.
While the food was very good, the service was not. This could be a great spot if they focused on improving attention to customers.
Amazing staff. Delicious food. Great ambiance
Very nice place with attentive and kind staff. The pear and ricotta fagottini is incredible !
Brunch was eh, NOT ethnic Italian. Disappointing apps, eggplant caponata not good, crabmeat appt ok, meat plate was ok. Entrees better, veal marsala good lots of nice veggies with it, spaghetti allla carbonara good, pancakes not good, penne in red hot sauce not good, spaghetti with sausage in some white sauce not bad.
Not delicious. Just okay
Everything was just amazing! The restaurantbdidn‘t feel cramped at all, it smelled absolutely fantastic like herbs, their foods and beverages are very authentic and at a very fair price. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes excellent mediterrainian food and very good italian wines!
Great birthday Italian style
Food was good. Made a reservation for four sat at a table for 3. It’s was on the 4th so they were busy which is ok but the server was very much in a rush and barely checked on us. The food was good tho.
Barbalu is in the cutest area of Seaport. It feels like a restaurant that's not in NYC. The cheese platter for 2 is large and yummy. The food is pretty good but there's nothing super special about it. I would definitely go back just for the atmosphere.
Delicious and relaxing meal. Will definitely return.
It was there for my G Friend birthday dinner and I ask for candle or any gesture but no response
Barbalu is a fine restaurant. The food is carefully prepared and beautifully served. The owner is present to assure a perfect experience. This is one of the few restaurants in NYC that provides tasty, nutritious food that looks beautiful on the plate and tastes delicious in the mouth. The atmosphere is one that one can enjoy for its charm and unusual spaces and its calm and quiet. Bravo, bravissimo!
It was ok. Nothing veeeery memorable but would recommend.
Had a great meal. Excellent service. The food was outrageously delicious. I will definitely go there again.
good food. there was a lot of sides potatoes, mushrooms, but only 3 pieces of vel on my dish
I came here for Italian Restaurant Week for dinner. The restaurant is mom and pops family owned restaurant. The service was on point as the server and staff were really nice and accommodating definitely better than Felidia.
The food in this place was also good, but I had my favorites. For the appetizer I had the special which was the bresaola with arugula. The appetizer was a lot of food for something that is cold cut but no complaints. The Pear and Ricotta Fagottini with Cream and Truffle Oil was my favorite dish. The fagottini was freshly made in house and it was to die for. The Tartufo Gelato was also delicious but was not memorable.
The overall experience was great, cozy and low key. I would definitely return and even hold a birthday or girls night dinner.
The food was delicious. We had the fried polenta in a cream with mushrooms and cheese fondu. Very plentiful, two big pieces of polenta. Could easily be shared. Very rich and satisfying. We then had the fagottini stuffed with ricotta and pear in a cream sauce with truffle oil. Also delicious. The Italian Week special on Open Table indicated that a desert was included in the lunch but we were advised that was a mistake. We had a choice of any appetizer and pasta. Still a good value, for dishes you will not find in typical Italian restaurant. I would love to go back and try some other dishes. The waiter service was good. A little brisk but no complaints.
Went to Barbalu during italian restaurant week. At first, was told that the restaurant was not participating in restaurant week. The waiter double checked, then said that the restaurant was participating, but it was 50 dollars for a salad and either a meet or pasta dish, no dessert included. Online it said 42 dollars for a salad, main course, and dessert.
The most expensive combination, which I didn't want, was 51 dollars. So really not a deal.
Otherwise, ordered the chicken breast. Seemed like the kind of chicken I could have got from most other places. Nothing remarkable.
Girl trip with my Mum, excellent food, service and ambient. Somewhat limited vegetarian meny.
Love Barbalu! Elegant setting with a non-stuffy vibe. The food is always wonderful! It is one of our top 3 in Boston.
Great neighborhood place, eggplant app delicious, bolognese was excellent & hearty. Our go to place for a good solid meal.
We keep coming back to this restaurant. Eventually we'll try others around Southstreet Seaport, but whenver we set out to do so, we always come back to Barbalue. Excellent everything.
Food is solid, only complaint is every time i go there you always have to get up and look for the server
Great food! Great wine! Great atmosphere! Super enjoyable.
An making find in an area that can be a bit touristy. We will definitely be returning to this awesome Italian spot.
Awesome date spot! Nice and quiet and food is delicious.
Barbalu remains my favourite lower Manhattan eatery - lunch or dinner. Wonderful and authentic Italian food - delicious, straight forward and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
Lovely place for lunch - quiet, not crowded, good food and friendly service
Had fabulous time and meal! Food was great and service was excellent!
