Barbakoa Ratings and Reviews
I was very disappointed in the food, the tortillas of the taco were very greasy it made no sense to have it so greasy, being that I am Mexican I enjoy the variety of food that they had but the taste of it was a bit cheap I could do better at my own place overall I was not very happy it seemed to be a bit cheap for the price that I paid wonder what happened to the cook because last year it was a lot better this year it was cheap tasting not worth the money service was good though the food was not again the food was very cheap
Service was not good. We were being rushed and couldn't enjoy our meal. Food did not taste like it was made from scratch. Appetizer and meal came out at the same time so everything was crammed onto the table. We were disappointed with the entire experience. Not at all what we were expecting.
Seated by windows and we had to wear jackets the whole time. The basic margarita did not taste good and was sent back. In fact, my husband got sick after drinking a quitter of his and had to excuse himself to the restroom. Very tasty tacos and guacamole. Loved the dessert toffee sticky pudding.
We have now found THE best Mexican restaurant! Had the steak tacos, OMG they were awesome. Different Sangrias to choose from, had the blood orange Sangria and it was delicious! Fried donuts were amazing and perfect for a group of four or six to share. Loved it so much that we were back the following week. Service was great too.
Table for 6. Ordered sides that we never got. Waitress was too busy getting ready for party of 13 so we were secondary. We got our food and immediately the waitress removed the chips and salsa. Maybe one or more of the six of us may have still wanted them but it didnt matter to her. My daughtwr was scooping off her plate when the waitress decided to box her food and grab her plate so she could turn the table. 2nd time their but definitely the last!
Very dissapointing. Good news, there are a lot of resturants in the area to choose from.
The flavors were simply amazing! Everything is fresh and it shows through in each dish. My favorite item was the Al pastor taco with the robust flavor of the melt-in-your-mouth pork accompanied by chile spices are elevated by a sweet pineapple spear that balances everything to perfection! And that was just one of the many great bites we had.
This restaurant was SO LOUD! The four of us sat at a four top and we had to SHOUT at each other to hear anything. The "tasting" for two or more menu is what brought us in but I was not impressed with any of the food. Additionally I asked for flour tortillas with cilantro on the side (because I hate cilantro but others at our table like it) and my dinner came out on corn tortillas covered in cilantro. Our waitress was okay, but not very attentive. The only great part were our drinks. Dinner was overpriced and I would not recommend unless just going for drinks and an appetizer and you don't mind to shout throughout your entire meal.
This is my third time at Barbakoa. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. The service was pretty good. Our server was helpful and attentive. Since the last time I was here (about 18 mos. ago) I feel the quality of the food has changed. We used to receive 4 different salsas with our chips, this time only 2. The salsa that I was most looking forward to was not one of the 4 so that stunk. I ordered the carne asada with chimichurri which I have had before. I usually really like it, but this time, it tasted different. It had a sweet flavor to it which I wasn't crazy about. The other couple at our table ordered tacos and a torta. They seemed happy with their food. My husband mentioned that his food tasted different from when we were previously there and he was not as happy with his food as he had hoped. Our drinks on the other hand were outstanding! My hubby raved about his drink but I don't recall what he ordered. I had a sangria which was excellent and the other couple had a beer and a margarita. Drinks at Barbakoa are strong but really, really good!
There was a slight issue with one of our entrees, the shrimp fajitas was overcooked, however all the rest of our food was delicious! And the service was outstanding. Our waitress Rachel was so nice and handled our small hiccup above and beyond. Will defitnetly be going back and requesting her as our server!
I've been wanting to go, because of the trendy decor. I went on a date, families to classy business meeting would blend in easily. I REALLY enjoyed the finely ground maze in the tamale, the tequila flights could make me require botox lol, but I'd do them again.
Where's the naughty words game ensued after this pic taken lol
The waitress was very slow. We waited a long time after asking for things like chip refills and at one point we had to ask the bus boy for four soft drinks. Our Bloody Mary’s were delicious but they took over 15 minutes to make. Once she served us she never really followed up to see if we were happy with our meals. We usually love our barbakoa visits and we just know now to ask to be seated with a few servers that we know are fantastic.
This was the 2nd time we came here and brought friends (6) because we had such a great 1st experience. However, this time, my husband and a friend ordered the Cubano sandwich, which my husband had ordered previously, and this time was terrible, full of fat. My husband & our friend told the manager and she apologized "up & down". When the bill arrived there was no compensation or discount added. We were very surprised. I think it will be awhile before we go back again. A nice place, but there are alot of nice places, they just don't stand out of a crowd.
I was pleasantly surprised at this gem. The ambiance was warm and cozy. The wait staff was pleasant and efficient. The menu offered quite a few choices. The food was good, not great. We all ordered three tacos a piece with sides of beans, rice, and corn. I had a Baja fish taco, Pescado el pastor, and the Shrimp. The shrimp was hard to call shrimp, there was hardly any on there and the flavor was not that tasty. The Baja was my favorite. I should have ordered three of those.
Loved our dinner at Barbakoa. It had a variety of menu options based on your preference of cuisine. Love the tacos that I got--Baja and Raja con Queso. I also ordered the sautéed brussel sprouts. Everything was amazing. My boyfriend ordered the Pastor, Chicken, and Carne Asada tacos and loved those as well. We also took advantage of the Friday's $15 carafes of sangria. We ordered the Pomegranate/Blood Orange...fantastic! This place was fun, tasty and great service. Would highly recommend and I know we will be visiting again!
6:30pm dinner reservations. Seated immediately, restaurant wasn't busy. Live guitar music in the bar area, can be heard throughout. Festive atmosphere, wait staff were dressed up for Halloween. Our waitress Pegah, was Absolutely Fantastic. However, the restaurant has hired a new chef. The menu is under going changes. Disappointing...Ordered Paella entree that is no longer available. Bummer! Otherwise a wonderful experience.
On the spur of the moment stop, we found a gem------we really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The service was excellent, the ambiance was inviting, exciting and warm. Would not hesitate to go back at anytime, in fact, I will be reserving a date at Barbakoa for my for a dinner party for my staff.
I found this place on open table for my sons 10th birthday. He loves going out to eat, we take him to some really nice places and encourage him to eat good, healthy and different foods than regular “kids menu” items.
The place was gorgeous. My margarita was outstanding. I hate margaritas with the super sweet margarita mix, I love the fresh lime with (a wee bit healthier?;)) This was also the first place that I tried jalapeños in my margarita. (Actually I think I asked for that, Bc I saw something similar on a sweeter drink, but I loved it). The option to try everything was fun, LOTS of food!
My only complaints were that we told them and our waitress it was his 10th birthday. He didn’t know that they knew (luckily), but a simple happy birthday or something would have made him excited. Just disappointing. So, maybe this isn’t the place for a celebration. I didn’t expect anything like a spectacle, just a simple acknowledgement would have worked.
One more thing, it was VERY loud in there. I, as well as my family love music, but you could not hear anyone at the table. When you go out to a fun restaurant and drop more money than the average place (which we are willing to do since we enjoy trying new places with great food, but it’s supposed to be a way of communication with your companions. I go to a bar or a concert when I just strictly want to hear very loud music.
Otherwise, the place was great. It was raining out the night we went, but the patio looked amazing for nice weather! Will definitely be back, just not for a birthday!
We have eaten at Barbakoa several times and have never been disappointed but my meal was unsatisfactory. I had the mahi tacos and could hardly taste the fish- plenty of slaw, very small portions of fish. But the dessert donuts were very tasty. Everyone else in our party liked the food. If it were just my husband and me I would have said something to our server.
