Fantastic! Wonderful dining experience. Staff was gracious, the food was delicious. We had the charcuterie plate and absolutely loved it. Heard about it on the local television station and it lived up to the review they provided.
Server has worked there 16 years. I had not been in hotel for at least 8 years. She remembered me. How nice!!
Food was very good. Plated exceptionally.
Very limited menu. For 9pm lighter fare or breakfast items would have been nice
This restaurant is a hidden gem in downtown Charleston. The food is consistently excellent, the atmosphere is quiet, spacious and comfortable. The service is top notch without being overbearing. The burrata salad is to die for. We will definitely return!
Great brunch menu. Dietary issues were handled well by server & chef. Will definitely return
The service was very good; The restaurant was not full which lessens the ambiance; The food was very good. I think they need to add many more items to menu. Very limited selection to entrees.
Went for lunch with my three 20’s children, twins turning 21. Our server was a sweetheart. The hostess was very rude to my 22 yr old daughter when she got there first. We all were a tad late due to zero parking within 3 blocks. Food was good but overpriced.
Excellent food in a unique and and pretty setting. Will return
The food was reasonably good. I was disappointed by the service. It was slow and delivery of my order was not coordinated, for example my glass of wine arrived long after my main course. Overall, too expensive for the quality of food and service.
Beautiful dining room that leads out to an amazing courtyard, hospitable but professional staff from the Manager to the server even the bus girl . Food ( Mahi Mahi) was nice and hot and very tasty! Will return when in town next!
At 7:30 PM on a Sunday with very few other customers in the Mills House Barbadoes Room, for a second time our table of six (6) experienced terribly slow service for both drinks and dinners.
Alert: The Mills House Barbadoes Room added a 20% gratuity for our table of six diners with no prior disclosure on the website, or on the menu, or on my reservation confirmation that I noticed. The server also failed to disclose the automatic charge.
Charleston has many excellent restaurants that provide good to excellent food and service, and which disclose billing terms that may include automatic gratuities.
Food was not good. Two meals came out and the tied was out 15” later and was cold and eggs were over cooked and order was incorrect. Waitress was nice and restaurant was clean and comfortable.
1) The waiter AJ was extremely helpful and one of the best servers I ever had
2) The set of the restaurant was Beautiful and Breath Taking
1) I called a few days prior to my reservation because of the “Valentines Day Menu” and was told since I was allergic to most options I would be able to order a Mills House Burger instead. After getting their I was told this is not the case so I paid $65 to basically only eat a small lamb chop
2) the lamb chop was literally bleeding it was so under cooked
3) The “Fourth Course” was literally 1 strawberry and one tiny piece of cake cut up and place on one side of the plate with a strawberry sauce and whip cream
Dined here for Valentines Day. Soup / salad and appetizers were good. The lamb chops were not cooked to order (underdone) and the chocolate mousse with raspberry compote was frozen, while the strawberry shortcake had poor plating.
Valentine's Day menu was very restrictive with unusual choices. Won't be back.
Came to the Barbadoes Room for our first for Valentines Day. The food and service was top notch. The staff was very attentive, along with the hostess and Maitre’D (I’m horrible with names please excuse me) our server was AJ, kudos to him.. he did a fantastic job. All of our expectations were met. Highly recommend this place!
Service was a little slow. Also, the food, if the restaurant were anywhere else instead of Charleston, would be great, but for Charleston the food was okay. Also the serving sizes were fairly small for the price tag.
Loved the ambiance just wish there was a better selection on Valentine's menu
Enjoyed the blackened shrimp ceaser. I was, however, expecting blackened shrimp not shrimp with a little Cajun powder on it. One of my shrimp still had most of its shell on which is my pet peeve. The ceaser dressing was very nice and rivaled my homemade dressing. The service was great.
Convenient. The food was ok...priced high, but it goes with the hotel.
Beautiful spot for a romantic dinner or nice night out. Plenty of options and not very expensive. Large portions and creative menu!
Tasha the hostess was engaging and fabulous, AJ our server was amazing as well as the food choices offered for restaurant week! Did not disappoint....
Excellent selection of entree for restaurant week. Food was delicious especially the she crab soup. Gorgeous decor and surroundings with prompt friendly and professional service.
Went there for lunch, ordered the she crab soup and Lowcountry club sandwich. Food was good.
The service was outstanding with the waitress going out of her way for us. As always, the food was excellent.
A group of eight neighbors traveled from Summerville to Charleston for a nice “restaurant week” luncheon - enticed by the interesting special menu published by the Barbados Room (2 courses for $15!). None of us were disappointed. The she crab soup with sherry was a highlight, as were the other chef specials. Our server was warm, efficient and friendly. We definitely will return.
The avacado toast was amazing! The food and coffee is great. It is a great spot for breakfast.
I received my soup but no spoon and had to wait quite a while to flag someone down to ask for a spoon. The runner kept bringing our food and placing it at other tables to ask if it was theirs before he brought it to us. My chicken was raw. I won’t be back.
I hate to say this but our experience was not good at all. We had reservations for 7:15 and we were sat promptly, good start but everything went downhill from there. Service was slow but it took an hour for our entrees to come out. If the restaurant had been swamped I would have understood this but it was not. Then when the food finally came we had short ribs that were way over cooked and potatoes that were completely undercooked! It was restaurant week so all three courses were ordered at once but they all took forever in coming out. Then the waitress had the audacity to comment that my kids were over it (they had been amazing the entire time!) I was over it by the time the meal was finally over. The fact of the matter is I spent a good deal of money and I came home starving.
Fantastic downtown atmosphere! We could not have been more impressed with our waitress, Melissa. She was very pleasant, conversational and went above and beyond to assist us. Presentation was flawless and meals were delicious, can't wait to go back!
Unfortunately, service was very slow with only 1 waiter available. They really tried their best but was too understaff to make a difference. Food was average as well. Fries was cold and overcooked.
We live in Charleston. But had never considered eating at the Mills House, Barbados Room. I am so glad we stumbled in to get out of the cold. Our cocktails were tasty& STRONG. It was EXACTLY what we needed to shake the cold off our bones.
The staff was inviting and prompt. So nice.
But the food was especially wonderful and plentiful. I can't wait to go back!!! I am an area manager in retail. The Barbados Room is a restaurant I recommend every time! Well done.
What a lovely place for dinning. The staff was warm and friendly. Our waiter AJ was extraordinary. Attentive and knowledgeable ( not to mention going above and beyond when we forgot our left over bag). The food was excellent. The she crab soup is one of the best we have had any where in Charleston. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Great atmosphere and location. We enjoy walking downtown always look for new places to have breakfast, will definitely add to our list.
We came at a quiet time and were allowed to linger over New Year's lunch. We were a bit disappointed brunch was not available on New Year's day but the lunch was excellent even if the menu choices were somewhat limited.
For the New Years' five course pre-fix dinner all of the food choices were very good with one exception, three of us ordered the duck on the main course, with one coming so rare it had to be sent back and the other two being very tough, The room is very nice and the service was very good.
Food was lukewarm, time between each coarse was too long, then an older gentleman comes in w 2 low rent hookers. and then to top it all off they charged us $250! Not anything I would recommend , especially for the money.
Food was decent, but the service was nowhere near appropriate for a restaurant of this price. The front desk lady had a cold face and didn't greet us with a smile. The waitress who took our order was impatient and was in no means trying to explain the three course menu when we had a question. She never came back till it was time for the check. Three other waiters brought our couses of which two were sent to the wrong table first. Our neighboring table's desert was sent to three wrong tables including ours. For the one and half hours we were there, the waiters and waitresses were all running in and out of the kitchen in a chaotic and mad manner. Nobody was dedicated to serve any of the patrons. The lady who took our order and picked up the check was extremely impatient and unprofessional.
