Barbacco Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I had a Friday night dinner here. We ate at the counter and had a nice experience. The service was attentive and the waiters knowledgeable of wine and food combos. We had the puréed cauliflower soup and I had the sole special and my husband went for a traditional Italian dish. All were excellent. The only knock was a Roberto Begnini film of Pinocchio was showing — stupid movie. At least it wasn’t Life is Beautiful... stick to Fellini if you must have Italian movies on.
The server was terrific. The hostess, however, needs guidance. Short, heavyset woman, dark hair. After telling me that I would need to wait for my table, she greeted the man behind me and asked if she could seat him at the counter. When I asked why she was sitting him before us, when I had a reservation as well. She stated that she knows him and he likes to be seated quickly. I explained that I prefer to be seated quickly also. She had not inquired whether I would like to be seated at the counter. Not OK.
My pasta dish was so-so but we enjoyed the bruschetta. It would be good if they offered a fully cooked fish dish instead of just seared fish. I give this restaurant three stars because although two of my companions said their seared tuna dish was good, my entrée was just okay and when we asked the waiter about the chicken dish, he said it was just okay, too.
Also, the tables are so close together that you have to slide them to one side to get out (and I'm a petite person).
Simply exquisite and exquisitely simple. Art is in simplicity: Brussels sprouts are consistently superb. The caponata transports you right to Palermo - subtle, genuine, comforting. And the scampi are grilled just right - which is so difficult. And well, the olive oil gives the sensual and quality note.
Had lunch with friend. We both really enjoyed our meals: I had the pear endive salad and the shrimp and squid sandwich. You could taste the excellent olive oil in the salad which had just the right proportions of everything. Ordered the sandwich cause it sounded different, and it was one the most unique sandwiches I've had: the texture of shrimp and squid together with fresh bread was so good. Friend had the meal size tuna salad and he said everything about it was very fresh and good as well.
Barbacco, what can I say? Very hip and cool, and at the same time, very true to the Italian kitchen. If you want something a bit less formal than the sister restaurant next door (Perbacco, also highly recommended), then stop in! We ate before the theater, we had very crisp and timely service without sacrificing the dining experience. And the wine list! Superb!
Reservations were made for 7.30 and the only seats left were the end of the bar! Not ideal but it worked to our advantage. Service was fantastic and fun. Food - we had the $25 3course meal. Salad was really pathetic- and very bland. 3 pastas tasted fantastic, however the seafood ravioli was hard and Undercooked. The mushroom fettuccini tasted great but was cold and again chunks of pasta far to el dente!! Butternut pasta was cooked and delicious. The flourless chocolate cake incredible so we ended the meal on a positive note. Think your focus needs to be on cooking the pasta for the correct amount of time. The sauces that went with it were wonderful. I hope this is helpful.
I had made reservations and they sat my friend and I at the bar. I had no idea that was an option since it was not mentioned in the booking process. I was under the assumption that we would have a table due to the existing reservation. In my past appearance the bar is for walk-in guests. The food was wonderful but it was so noisy that I couldn't carry on a conversation with my friend sitting next to me. They had techno music playing at the bar competing with the already loud house music and then they had two televisions going with a basketball game on. It was sensory overload to say the least. We could not hear the waiter either. Based on this I would not go back. Perhaps it's me - I may be too old for this type of restaurant scene.
Left feeling hungry - mostly embarrassed because client I was inviting asked if they could exchange a side of pasta with their polenta as they couldn’t eat corn - you would think that would be a no-brainer- but no, after consulting the chef the waiter came back saying that would not be possible. Not going back.
Overall, the meal was good and the ambiance is good and lively. This was our second time at this restaurant. Service was good but the waiter was a bit abrupt. Perhaps that is his style...the hazelnuts in the salad were slightly off. My partner's pasta was a bit too al dente. My meatballs were good.
The food was delicious and came quickly once we ordered it. But we were seated at a table near the bar and it was pretty loud. I had a scratchy throat after dinner from having to literally “yell” at my friend so he could hear me. In addition, the lighting was so dim we both had to use the flashlight function on our phones to be able to see the menu!
We work down the street from Barbacco and had noticed a line out front before they opened one day... So we gave it a try for our monthly team lunch. We made reservations and were seated in quick order after arriving. Although the ambient noise got louder it was not hard to hear each other from across the table. I had the fish special, seared tuna (see picture), it was delicious. Service was very attentive and the dessert was great too!
The food here was fantastic. It was my first time eating at the restaurant and the menu was well priced. I got a wine mojito (pretty good) and enjoyed the brussel sprouts and grilled octopus. Together they were enough to make a decent sized meal. The service was also very good and my waiter was friendly, as were the staff clearing my dishes.
On a Thursday night the vibe was lively, but it was a bit too noisy for conversation (even though we were seated at the end of the bar, a few inches apart). We had three dishes between us, plus the amazing dark chocolate gelato. I had a seafood salad -- the flavors were great, texture perfect. My only complaint was that it was too salty.
Went to Barbacco for lunch with three friends who had never been there. All were very impressed. Dishes included the trout special served with cherry tomatoes and olives, squash soup and the eggplant sandwich. Service was friendly, but not so good. Asked for water twice; asked for bread twice; asked for extra butter and never got it. It was very, very busy. I will definitely return.
