Barbacco looks sleek and urbane, with a welcoming feel. The 66-seat restaurant is fitted with a rich black marble bar for counter seating complimented by a bright yellow beverage case displaying coolers of wine on one side and the building’s original brick walls on the other. The dining tables throughout the restaurant are great for parties of two and up to six. The space is full of energy and infused with a convivial atmosphere where guests come to meet friends or make new acquaintances.
Reservations are welcome, keep in mind that our seating capacity is comprised of counter space and individual tables. We will honor requests for individual tables to the best of our ability.

Food was good but service was not. Maybe under staffed. Had to request water multiple times, server offer us dessert before dinner was even served to us. Waited for peppers no silverware with it.
Walking into the restaurant, a hostess with attitude ignored me and my guest and addressed a different party making us wait. I sternly confronted her about it and her rude attitude tainted our hole experience. Sure, the food we ate was tasty. Yay kitchen! Even our quirky server asked us immediately if we would like to buy a bottle of wine. Perhaps the cooks in the kitchen would do well to greet the diners and take our food and drink orders. Because the love from the kitchen was not translated by the staff. I haven’t eaten at Barbacco in years and it’s been a while since eating next door at Perbacco, a favorite among my San Francisco short list. After this experience, I won’t go out of my way to return.
Love this restaurant. The Food was amazing. I will be back.
Barbacco is a delightful little small plate restaurant. Still enjoy it, had a great lunch there recently.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Barbacco. Our waiter was efficient and friendly, the flat iron steak well-seasoned and cooked, the arugula salad very fresh and yummy! The tables are a little close together, so four young ladies next to us , being exuberant , made it kind of loud. Staff took care of us, though!
First time back since the pandemic. The food was wonderful as always, and service great. The staff were careful about confirming everyone's vaccination status, which we really appreciate.
Food very good. Noisy and tables close together - prefer Perbacco with very similar menu.
Joe our waiter was great! It was my husbands birthday celebration so we were looking for a special dinner. The food was ok- too salty but the meat and pickled vegetables appetizer plate was great. Wine was nice. The party next to us was loud. I was surprised that we were seated next to them when we are obviously older and were there for a special occasion and there were a lot of empty tables. The welcome was focused on vaccination papers and we weren’t actually welcomed. If we had not had Joe, I think that we would have walked out since there are lots of empty seats in other restaurants. Dessert was nice but small.
It was better, pre-pandemic. I understand the restaurant only reopened less than a month ago, but the food is more expensive and underwhelming. Staff was nice but constantly asked how things were nervously.
Dinner with work colleagues after a first day back in the office since covid shutdown. Food was as good as it was pre-pandemic. The menu is smaller as with most restaurants. I found the food generally a little too salty now that I'm no longer used to restaurant-style seasoning. Service was great and sitting on the sidewalk was more comfortable than expected. Potato croquettes and papardelle bolognese were delicious. Barbacco is still reliably good.
We made a reservation but arrived early. Despite several available table, we were placed at the bar table instead of a regular table. Assorted plater, Espana, was bland and not exciting. Orecchiette was too oily for our taste.
This was my first time @ Barbacco, having eaten several times @ Perbacco.
We sat in the outdoor parklet and enjoyed a terrific lunch. Wouldn't have changed my choices while everything on the menu sounded great.
Great food and great service.
Went on a rare outing with a friend to a matinee movie in the neighborhood. I'd had dinner at Barbacco a few times and found, luckily, that they had just reopened for lunch. We skipped over the tempting salads and sandwiches and went straight for the pastas, and were glad we did. My friend had the spaghetti with mussels in tomato wine sauce, and it was really good. Lots of mussels. I had fettuccine with mushrooms, corn and lots of grated pecorino. Succulent, melt in your mouth good. Yum. Can't wait to go back.
Haven’t been to Barbacco since preCovid. Service still very efficient. The wine list is small but excellent. Food for the most part was excellent although I was very disappointed with the octopus preparation. The octopus la plancha style was inedible because it was so rubbery I was unable to cut it. My server immediately returned it to the kitchen and promised a new dish. Unfortunately the replacement preparation was as rubbery as the first.
La comida exquisita el servicio excelente . profesionales y muy amables. Un lugar muy recomendable !!
Staff were extremely attentive and polite. Great food!
Ever so happy you have finally opened for a work anniversary lunch!
Dinner at Barbacco was spectacular. We started with the charcuterie board beautifully arranged with the finest prosciutto, salami, mortadella, cheese, olive, nuts. Followed with the octopus. For the main course we had the steak and the rigatoni pasta. OMG, they were so delicious. Our friend who had never eaten at Barbacco was so impressed with the food and presentation, he basically devoured the food. The wine and the service were fabulous and perfectly complimented the food. We had a fantastic evening. We will be doing it again!
Delicious and enjoyable for a team lunch in FiDi!
Barbacco is something of a hidden gem in the darkest of FiDi. They do outstanding pasta and fish dishes, and the wine list is very nice, featuring a good assortment of Italian varietals. It's got a fun bar scene and a lively vibe and is just a nice place to hang out and have a drink and a good meal.
Great menu, ambiance, and service. Wednesday had a pasta set menu for their dinner menu as well as the a la carts options. Wine selection is diverse and very good!
Food was great and service was great, but they did forget our drinks and our olives... thankfully it was not charged... My pasta was yummy!
Would have been great to try the Ginger Collins... next time!
Food and service were superb! Food was not only delicious and fresh but nicely presented. And the service was terrific!
Salad of pear, radicchio, etc., pasta with mushrooms and ricotta truffle cream and, perfectly cooked (med. rare) steak with trumpet mushrooms were absolutely delicious. Molto buono! Delicioso!
Loved the pear/apple salad and the pasta with muchrooms--couldn't have been better
The food and service were outstanding. Everything was simply excellent. We really enjoyed our dinner.
The food is reasonable priced and good quality for what you get. The prices for lunch and dinner are the same so it's a so-so deal for lunch but a good deal for dinner. The one downside is the place is usually dense with people (not a lot of open space) so it's sometimes hard to hear or be relaxed there. As long as you're ok with that type of atmosphere I would recommend it.
Yummy pasta and everything else!
I love this restaurant. I often go for their variation on spaghetti w clams which has, until this visit, been terrific. This time it was very disappointing. A few overcooked clams. No mussels or baby squid. Something instead deep fried and mushy. May been the chef was off or had a very bad night. It drove my rating from 5 to 3. Deserts brought it up from a 2. Come on folks, you can do it.
Fantastic dinner, good prices, excellent service. Had a fabulous time
Food was always excellent at Barbacco. Seating arrangements aren’t always comfortable. The height of the stools are odd in relation to the banquettes. The stools are also shaky and provide feeling of unrest to my fellow guests as they think they were going to fall with their stools.
Great for client or team lunches. Delicious food, good service. Book ahead.
Tried pasta night this time! So delicious. A great value and a great way to try multiple items on the menu. We will be back on March pasta night!
The most incredible food!
The flavors were powerful yet balanced.
The food felt clean and the service and ambiance impeccable. I could not recommend enough.
Love the food and wine selections. I have been to Barbacco for lunch and also happy hour. It would be nice if they can add more vegetarian options in their lunch menu. Overall a good restaurant and my friends enjoyed
We had a great time dining at Barbacco. The food was great with healthy portions. I had the sea bass which really impressed me with the flavor and how it was served Italian (I don't usually order fish when eating Italian.) We left full and happy. The only reason I gave the food 4 stars is because all of my dishes came out so hot I could not eat them for 5-10 minutes (I think I ordered the easy to plate items while my husbands dishes may have taken longer.)
Nice place for a lunch meeting or social lunch. Good salad and sandwich options, as well as pasta
Quality entrees with great service and a good price.
