Barbacco looks sleek and urbane, with a welcoming feel. The 66-seat restaurant is fitted with a rich black marble bar for counter seating complimented by a bright yellow beverage case displaying coolers of wine on one side and the building’s original brick walls on the other. The dining tables throughout the restaurant are great for parties of two and up to six. The space is full of energy and infused with a convivial atmosphere where guests come to meet friends or make new acquaintances.
Reservations are welcome, keep in mind that our seating capacity is comprised of counter space and individual tables. We will honor requests for individual tables to the best of our ability.
Barbacco's menu has remained strong and steady for years, and the seared octopus is so delicious. So tender with the perfect char on the edges - and the beans and olives are so wonderful with it. Lovely pastas. We came to celebrate Valentine's Day and service seemed a bit overwhelmed, but overall good. The halibut was insanely salty but other than that, great dinner experience.
Vanlentine’s Day Date
Not only was our server wonderful, but the GM, Mark, was extremely sweet to have comp'd us our desert.
Wonderful Sat. night with friends!
Foot was excellent, nice place to be in San Francisco
It was a very uncomfortable/cold restaurant. You need a curtain block around the door.
Re:food - The Brussels were hella salty, the guancale was uncooked, and everything was a little off.
Great Bolognese sauce. Loved the whole experience.
A definitively go to place for a good time
The food was amazing, in addition to the service. Lunchtime is tricky because it gets so busy, so it can be a tight fit - hence, the 4 stars for ambiance
Fantastic! Can't wait to go back! Wait staff was very efficient and exceeding friendly and well trained. The food was yummy, the recommended wine perfect with our meal.
Even though we had reservations, we had to wait over 20 minutes to be seated. We were waited on immediately as we were seated at the counter.
My octopus appetizer was a bit chewy but flavorful. My friend’s Oso Bucco was pretty awful. She hardly ate any of it. My eggplant pasta dish was bland and in remarkable. Quite disappointing overall. We didn’t want to risk trying desserts.
Not sure of recommending to a friend. Food was creative and well prepared by the kitchen but waiter service was questionable. Though not crowded, we were treated as if they wanted to turn the table quickly. Appetizers were served and within a few minutes, the main course was also served.
Really not enough time to enjoy the experience when you are expected to consume appetizers simultaneously with the main course.
A little pricey for what we got. Service was lacking (had to repeatedly ask for bread and water) and even after we spent $250+ on four people and there were lots of empty tables, they were quite intent on rushing to get us out of there. Probably will not go back.
Food was good but service was very rushed- felt like they were trying to force us out of the restaurant
Nice venue, good and friendly service on a Friday evening before MLK weekend. Food left something to be desired: oxtail was tough and difficult to eat, and swordfish was flavorful but tiny. Server was excellent as was the wine list and atmosphere, but quality of food matters, and there are better and more well-rounded options at this price point, even in the Financial District.
Had the fish lunch special and a side of Brussels sprouts. Both were great.
Love this place. Will be a go to financial district location. Wonderful experience and love the personal touches by the staff and chefs. I would recommend this establishment to one person or a group of 8, intimate, warm and memorable.
We were seated right away. The servers were wonderful and very attentive. Food was excellent!!!
Took a little while to get seated but solid food
I was a little disappointed that they could not seat us at the appointed time for our reservation. The food, however, was excellent and the service was very good.
Barbacco is one of my favorite restaurants in the City. The food and service are always outstanding. The ingredients are fresh. A great place to go and enjoy a wonderful meal.
My favorite menu item is the chicken thighs but it was not on the menu. On this occasion, the guest next to our table was highly energetic with voluminous profanity that made my dining uncomfortable.
Great food, great value, great service, good location!
Celebrated NY there. Overall experience was great. The food was delicious (especially the octopus), the service was excellent despite the fact the place was fully packed. Highly recommend for any special occasion celebration.
Great food for a very reasonable price! Really impressed me on New Years! Food was good and not rushed!
Extremely cramped table seating for NYE dinner and very dim-lit interior on the table side, making this special occasion almost depressing (despite balloons floating above) . The pasta dishes tasted bland and oily, and the presentation was also not appetizing. The manager was not personable, and his way of addressing my complaint suggested that he did not care about our happiness at his restaurant. Therefore, I will not come back and will not recommend the place to anyone.
Dario our waiter was great .. food was good !
We were able to get reservations for New Years Eve and sat at the counter. Food and service was disappointing. Even the atmosphere and music was outdated. Would not return.
Good ambient and foid!
Menu of wines could have more diversity of Napa ones.
Great food & drinks (salumi (shared), pasta, chicken and deserts and a half a bottle of wine), staff was very helpful. Love to come back again!
Had the nicest waiter there who took very good care of us.
Excellent food and service! Highly recommend!
Just ok , Will. Not return
Barbacco is the perfect compliment to Perbacco. Service was great. The octopus was the best we've ever had. The tuna tartar was scrumptious. There were a few easily fixed problems, however: 1) The lamb shank was delicious but was served barely room temperature (am guessing it was plated before the chicken dish and sat out for 10 or fifteen minutes 'till the chicken was plated). 2) The oxtail, again delicious, and again served barely warm--see lamb shank problem-- but WHY ONLY HALF A VERY SMALL TAIL PIECE?! If you give a an entire lamb shank for the same price of $24, why in god's name do you not give an entire oxtail? There was barely 1/3 cup of meat on the piece--there was way more bone than meat! Aside from these correctable flaws, Barbacco is a great choice.
We sat at the bar - good food and good service. I have been there several times and food is always great and dependable. Great reliable and fairly inexpensive downtown spot.
Very loud. Food was underwhelming.
Barbacco is great! Good food and good sized portions. We had to wait awhile for our reserved table and the service was amazing, providing us with a free appetizer to make up for our wait. I highly recommend!
Service was a bit overwhelming. Multiple servers come up and ask you if you have ordered drinks or food, which I felt was annoying and lack of communication on there part. It also feels like they are trying to pressure you to order and eat so you can leave to free a table. The food is incredible though, very creative and full of many vibrant flavors. Loved the food.
Barbacco was great. Solid service, great food (specials specifically), and bar seating was quick and easy.
We had a great experience and felt we were treated with extraordinary care. The manager, Mark, provided great suggestions for wine and graciously checked in during our meal. It made for a very relaxing, enjoyable evening and we left feeling that all our meals out should be as such.
Thank you Barbacco.
The food and service are excellent and a good value.
The problems are the noise level and the fact that tables are so close together that you can hear other conversations and be heard.
