Barbacco looks sleek and urbane, with a welcoming feel. The 66-seat restaurant is fitted with a rich black marble bar for counter seating complimented by a bright yellow beverage case displaying coolers of wine on one side and the building’s original brick walls on the other. The dining tables throughout the restaurant are great for parties of two and up to six. The space is full of energy and infused with a convivial atmosphere where guests come to meet friends or make new acquaintances.
Reservations are welcome, keep in mind that our seating capacity is comprised of counter space and individual tables. We will honor requests for individual tables to the best of our ability.
Dinner: Monday-Saturday: 5:00pm - 10:00pm
Valet is offered for dinner only.
Excellent staff, terrific food, lively but not too noisy atmosphere. Turned out to be the perfect place for a Saturday evening dinner with out of town friends who loved the dinner.
One of my 'go-to' choices in the city when you want a low-key sit-down place in the Financial District. Service is friendly and on point Get the Volpetti meatballs and the brussel sprouts!
Have only been for lunch and I prefer it over lunch or dinner at Perbacco. Consistently great food and service. Sometimes at lunch it’s not too busy which is great for the noise but the noise isn’t so bad it ruins the experience. When busy we can still have a conversation.
We booked for 12.30. My dining companion was elderly and disabled. The seater ignored her. We were seated 20 minutes late. No apology- no explanation. Total contempt for the client. Only when told off was some attempt to provide a seat for my companion and once seated a complimentary serving of sorts was offered.
The seater and noise spoilt the lunch meeting.
This is a fine lunch spot if your reservation is for noon or if you don’t mind waiting 10-20 min past your reservation to be seated. I tried again a 12:30p lunch reservation and was seated at 12:47. This make three times in a row my non-noon reservation is v late. Three strikes...
Tried the Pasta, pasta, pasta! event every first Wednesday of the month for $25/person. We were completely disappointed in the taste and execution. The dishes were put together haphazardly and one of the pasta was raw. Not impressed. Thank goodness it’s only once a month so just order off the regular menu and you’ll be fine.
Energetic but not too noisy. Good menu variety and value. Will take more people for a casual business lunch.
Outstanding service - the wait staff were wonderful. My risotto was meh. Still, my table companions had excellent meals. Would recommend overall.
Friendly little trattoria in the financial district. The service was prompt and attentive, and very friendly. The vibe is somewhat energetic, and the seating is quite cozy, so I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking for a lot of space or privacy. But we weren’t, so we enjoyed the “neighborhood spot” feel. Food is very good, well prepared and portioned. The orecchiette was amazing. We started with a roasted beet salad, which was also delicious and plenty for two to share. Altogether, very comfortable and friendly with good food and a nice wine selection in the bargain!
Our meals were all unbelievable, two days later and we are still salivating!! Great service and reasonable prices for the quality.
Beer and wine only. Loud, but not annoying. Waiter was excellent.
If you are Celiac, stay away. Even if you ask for gluten free and tell them you have an allergy, they do not take it seriously. I ate there for lunch yesterday and got terribly sick from gluten. Stay away if gluten free.
Very rude hostess
Our second visit. Starters were a visually pleasing but lacked flavour. Mains were excellent as were dessert and cheese . Waiter was very enthusiastic but the experience of dining at a table felt less relaxed than our previous meal at the bar. We did feel as though we were rushed into ordering and leaving.
We found the restaurant towards the end of our stay in San Francisco so only managed to eat here twice. My partner rated his meal as the best he had had in San F.
Absolutely excellent! Rossini was wonderful
Better than similar named restaurant next door beginning with a P
Loved this place! We had squid for appetizer, shrimp linguini and fish of the day. All dishes were so tasty and reasonable price. Service was great and I liked the restaurant interior. Will definitely go back!
This was my fifth time eating at Barbacco. The food is always wonderful
The food was great, our server was friendly and attentive!
They were so sweet to us celebrating our anniversary and the chef made us an amazing vegan pasta dish!
This is a solid choice if you’re looking for a tasty meal in the FiDi that won’t strain your wallet. Everything we ordered was nicely prepared if not exactly memorable. The pasta dishes were heavy on the pasta and light on “stuff”. They were also about $12 cheaper per plate than next door at Perbacco. Our waiter tried hard to provide a smooth experience. Serves its purpose.
Made a reservation and showed up 30 minutes early and was told we could wait for table or sit at the bar. We wanted our table so we went next door for drinks. The hostess came and retrieved at our reservation time and and sat us at the bar. We asked why had we not been sat a table (that we had a reservation for) and she said there were no tables. The service overall from everyone else was STELLAR! Great drinks and amazing food. However, service is service...I would have appreciated her letting us know what happen rather than just shoving us at the bar and running off.
The food is good and the atmosphere comfortable. That said, I brought a friend for the first time to taste the brussles sprouts. Unfortunately the fryer was broken. Also, I made a reservation for 2 and was told there was only seating at the bar available. When I told the hostess that I made a reservation she said I should have specified I wanted a table. Not only did I not see that option on line, but I do not recall needing to make a reservation at a restaurant to sit at the bar.
We'e been to Barbacco many times and it's often loud. This time is was not only loud, but the service was mediocre, we barely could catch our waiter's eye. The food was mediocre at best and the value was not great for what you got. Everyone seemed in a rush and the food also seemed rushed and prepared without care. We left feeling like we'd rather have gone somewhere else.
Waited for 20+min for our table, and our waiter disappeared after serving our food. Terrible spot for a client mtg.
Barbacco was really good! We ordered pasta, and fish (both were delicious). However, we did not really like the appetizers and were disappointed by the ´bruschetta'.
We we late for our reservation but they got us in anyway!
Good service, but the food was mediocre. Wouldn’t recommend the restaurant.
Food was very good, soup of the day and Beet Salad were excellent. Nice portions and served in neet bowls. Valet parking was good too.
Came here for a friend's birthday. Main courses were superb and extremely well-priced for the quality (Adequate portions as well). I did find the wine to be a bit overpriced, and the bruschetta was also not worth it -- $9 for 3 small, extremely overtoasted toast with minimal toppings. Service was excellent. I'll be back, but will probably go with a different appetizer.
Superb Italian food in a fun and lively setting. We had the special pasta trio (first Wednesday of the month) which was exceptional and a great value.
Food was amazing (i had the halibut in a savory broth with tomatoes and snow peas and leeks). Varied wine choices. Seating is either a padded bench/mid-height chairs at tables for 4 along one side of the room or side by side at the bar to watch the chefs. It's a little noisy and at first I thought I would have preferred sitting at a table but side by side at the bar was better to hear each other and enjoy the meal. Thought it was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday evening, but after we had our meal, we knew why.
As long as you make a reservation, you will not be disappointed. Anything ordered is always delicious!
A go-to Italian lunch and dinner spots in the Financial District. Food is consistently good. Short but solid wine list. Professional wait staff.
Both myself and another from our dinner party ordered the risotto and both of ours were under-cooked. We let our waiter know and he was great though, profusely apologized, got us a new plate ASAP and even comped us a delicious dessert. Only giving it 4 stars because it was undercooked the first time but otherwise, everything was delicious and the service was great.
Wonderful food. Foodgasm. Mmmm. Soup. Salad. Fried Brussel Sprouts. Chicken under the brick, was perfection. Lumache Bolognese..... sooooo deliciously put together.
Food was good and service was ok. The main issue I had was that they didn't have a table for our reservation when we arrived (on time) so offered us a seat at the bar until one opened up. It was a business interview, so conducting a preliminary interview at a should bar sitting side saddle with the candidate was less than ideal. We never did get a table as they were eager to get us out of there.
Next time let me know if my res may land me at a bar and I'll reserve somewhere else.
Excellent food with good vegetarian and gluten free options.
Received excellent advice for wine and food pairings. Pasta was delicious, as was cheese plate (and wine). Highly recommended.
