Dishes were excellent to good. Portions were on the small side but the prices were not. Service was excellent. Servers were falling all over themselves trying to help (figuratively speaking of course). They swapped out plates so the shared dishes were not contaminated by sauces from a prior dish. Parking is awful.

We read a review in a local magazine and couldn't wait to try Baran's... they lived up to the expectations and then some! Our server was friendly and, best of all, super knowledgeable about every single item on the menu. The service was great and every dish was delish. The red curry Brussel sprouts were a show stopper!

Great food but overcharging to be a strip mall restaurant. It was too small to really create a “ fine dining” experience as I found myself constantly having to duck and dodge to get to the restroom . The prices reflect a high end restaurant but the ambience doesn’t

Absolutely outstanding Cuisine. The best restaurant in the South Bay. I have been to them all, you name it I have been there. Barans 2239 is a notch above. There is a reason all the reservations fill up so fast at Barans. You just can’t go wrong choosing to dine here.

There are not too many places in the south bay that would be considered excellent but this for sure is one of them. We tried around 8-10 dishes between 5 people and they all were on the spot fantastic. You can tell that they take great care into the food that they serve. Bravo!! I will be going back shortly.

Great wine, great food, great night. If Crab Gnocchi is on the menu, make sure to get "double crab"!

The blistered green beans, corn masa barramundi, brussel sprouts salad, black kale, and chicken morel ramp pasta were all fantastic - we honestly could not choose a favorite. It's currently beer/wine only, which suited us fine with the great selection of wine by the glass. The service was exceptional, and we loved the bowls. Highly recommend for carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores due to the abundance of options. I am pescetarian and had a number of amazing options.

I recommend this restaurant with reservations (no pun intended). My husband and I arrived before our friends -- friends who prepared dinner for us previously. Our home being too small to reciprocate, we invited them out -- hence our reservation at Baran's. I ordered wine, my husband beer. We brought a bottle of very special wine (A. Rafanelli 2014 zinfandel), and had the waiter open it. We expected to pay a corkage fee -- just NOT what we were charged! Baran's had only one zinfandel on their wine list -- a winery in Sonoma with which we were unfamiliar -- and we are VERY familiar with zinfandel from Sonoma County. Our friends arrived and, unbeknownst to us, also brought a very special wine. As this was the first time any of us had been to Baran's, the waiter explained that all the on the menu were meant to be shared, so for the four of us we ordered two entrees, two sides, bread, and the shaved brussel sprout salad which we all agreed was too tart (made you pucker). The four of us polished off the A. Rafanelli zin, so our friends brought out a bottle of A. Rafanelli 2013 cab. Our waiter was at tableside, so he obviously knew it was NOT us who brought it. Baran's STILL charged a $60 corkage fee -- even though we bought a glass of wine ($17) and beers (2) ($16).

Everything else was wonderful--especially the green beans and the pasta dish. Even the chocolate torte was fabulous. The waiter was attentive, but the noise level was LOUD. I checked "moderate" above, because the choice, instead of being "loud" was "energetic." Believe me, it was LOUD -- noisy and loud.

Baran's 2239 has some of the best food in south LA county - we absolutely love this restaurant, its menu, and its proprietors. Fabulous restaurant in the south bay despite its location in a strip mall....as they say, you cannot judge a book by its cover, and if you are a foodie, the inside of this book will not disappoint you.

It is obvious that care taken with the menu item selection and then their preparation. Even simple green beans are transformed into a specialty dish. Dishes are generally shared so you have an opportunity to try multiple taste and all were found to be excellent. I recommend this restaurant Haile

Devotee of Barans Chef, the owners who are family, the hidden gem atmosphere and cuisine. Must try that smoked, fried chicken.. it is not what you expect. Sooo exquisitely executed, tender and well.. I could go on. Just order it. Then the green beans? We ordered them twice they were that amazing. The handcrafted dishes here and the processes used locally to prepare and present every plate is simply divine. I could eat here every evening and discover something new with the same dish. My top favorite in the Southbay and we're fussy foodies.

Food and service is always consistently great; wine and beer choices extremely good also. Only difference now is the prices seems to have increased substantially from our last visit. The steak, though really well cooked and presented, seemed expensive for what it was.

Nice cozy place with a great staff. Pick a couple of plates from each side of the menu to sample. Excellent wine. The menu is not big but there’s a nice variety for just about any taste and the items come out fresh. We loved the antipasto and the Korean short ribs with potato croquettes were delicious. For dessert we had a toffee bread pudding which was a perfect ending to a fabulous meal.

Very very good food. Everything is very lively and bright with flavor. Wine presentation was done incorrect and the silverware didn't match. But everything else was great. The owner was around and personable saying hello to everyone.
I will be back.

My daughter and I were in town for the weekend and saw this place got great reviews so we thought we’d try it. Everything was amazing and there were plenty of gluten free options for my daughter. We wish we could’ve tried one of everything! A bit spendy but the quality, taste and creativity justify the price.

You cannot beat the smoked fried chicken - is so much better than it sounds.
However, the barramundi was the best dish on our last trip.
