Barano Ratings and Reviews
While the apps did not disappoint -- eggplant, artichoke, meatballs and mozzarella were delicious -- the pastas weren't that good. The best was the linguini with seafood. The agnolotti were actually quit disappointing. The restaurant is very beautiful but we were right by the speakers and the noise level was way too high.
Horrible NYE dinner. We left mid-meal. The hostess was rude and insulting. We had under cooked prawns and she insisted they were not. When she brought them, she had them taken out of the shell, which we didn’t ask for. Her attitude was undesirable and we ultimately felt slighted.
My partner and I and a friend enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner at Barano, which evidently was a huge success for the restaurant. So much so that by 9 pm they had run out of a number of the items on the prix fixe menu. (They'd been serving since 4 pm because they normally have a Sunday brunch.) But the substitutions were more than fine. The octopus antipasto, which replaced the shrimp listed on the menu, was outstanding, grilled and served over farro. The sampling of two pastas and a risotto also was well-conceived and delicious, as were the secondi (fish). We enjoyed the torta caprese dessert and were pleasantly surprised by the cannoli our waiter brought us, on the house. Barano offers creative southern Italian cuisine with some northern Italian and American touches. This was our fourth visit and we'll definitely be back.
The food was so much better than I could have anticipated. The saffron pasta was SO GOOD, and so simple, I wish I could eat it once a week. We tried the chef’s selection of 3 pastas, and they were all delicious. We also had the squash pizza and it was superb. Will 100% be coming back.
This was my second time at Barano and again I am unimpressed with the service. The food is great. Service is mediocre at BEST. The staff there seem like they have no restaurant experience. Which is fine. But clearly the training they are receiving is subpar. We had 5:45 dinner reservations on a Saturday. We went to order appetizers and said that we would wait to put our mains in (a very normal request). The waiter told us he “preferred” if we put the order in at once just because the kitchen will get “slammed” and he won’t be able to make it back to us. It was 5:45....there was maybe 4 other tables in there. But fine. He finally comes back we order everything. Food came out in good timing. We then noticed that he was one of two servers on. Barano is a small restaurant but not small enough for there to only be 2 servers. There was a few other people bringing food out/watering tables, but this doesn’t allow for much attention. After our meal we got the check and I wanted to use an open table dining reward I have...which I booked the table using. The manager came over and asked to see my phone and walked away with it. She then came back and said “yeah so we don’t accept that” in a fairly rude manor. It was $10 so I didn’t really care to make a fuss at that point. However, open table now just uses MasterCard gift cards for rewards so clearly the restaurant could have accepted it.
My first-time experience dining at Barano was incredible. From the inviting ambiance, to the friendly and knowledgeable staff, to the creative twist on traditional Italian eats...Everything was outstanding. Definitely worth the trip from Staten Island. Highly recommend!!!
Hands down one of the best dining experiences I️ have had all year. The service is top notch. The wine list is extensive and the food is so fantastic. I️ would highly recommend the rice balls and meatballs to start followed by the saffron gigli pasta (best dish of the night) as well as the pizzas. Save room for dessert too! What a wonderful dining experience. I️ cannot wait to go back!
Food was so good we went back a week after our first time being there. Hostess was extremely helpful in allowing us to add 2 friends to our reservation of 4 when we arrived. Service had a hiccup in the beginning because it seemed two large groups sat down right after us, but the managers picked up the slack and started taking our orders and pouring our wine. I just wish it would've been communicated instead of me having to guess where my waiter was. Otherwise the food is so good I'll definitely be back again.
We had a very nice time at Barano aside from the behaviour of the young family who sat across from us (little girl getting up out of her seat and swinging her very long hair around -- no thanks). we ordered the fig crostino which to be honest, we found a little underwhelming, but the heirloom tomato salad, the beet salad and the meatballs with herbed ricotta were amazing!! cocktails were pretty good. service is spectacular -- everyone is very attentive without being over bearing.
Barano exceeded all expectations. The staff was exceptional, our waiter Jordan was super knowledgeable about the menu and was able to customize based on individual tastes. The food was superb. The meatballs and the grilled octopus are a must! Not only was the food excellent, but the staff was accommodating on all fronts, making us feel like VIP diners.
I would highly recommend for any and all occassions.
This was my second time dining here, absolutely amazing yet again. The menu is definitely seasonal, over half the food and cocktail menu items were all new. The meatballs were amazing (those, I believe are probably year round), lots of them but not too heavy. Pizza, pasta and both the cocktails I tried also amazing.
Very friendly and knowledgable staff all round too- they actually try all the dishes for their family meal so know and are passionate about the menu.
Fantastic experience, definitely get a pizza!!!! Will be back for sure
Barrano was great from the moment we walked in. They took us immediately to a table and we had great service the whole evening. The grilled peach salad was great. The Herb Marche with goat ragout was excellent! Everyone loved their food and the lemoncello semifreddo was a great way to end the evening.
