' BAR VERDE Ratings and Reviews
Kenney took on the challenge of vegan Mexican and was definitely able to deliver high flavor and satisfactory food. Certain things like the tortilla or guacamole that were naturally vegan didn't necessarily stand out but as the whole the meal was exciting and tasty. The restaurant packs a lot of tables into a small space but this adds for a lively, vibrant environment who don't mind tight space.
Such delicious vegan Mexican food! The service was wonderful. The food was creative, delicious, and presented beautifully. It is a small space so it is a bit crowded and it is quite noisy. That was why I gave it an overall rating of 4 stars instead of 5. It's not really a place you could enjoy a leisurely dinner. But everything we ate was fabulous! So worth a visit!!!
This was my second time coming to Bar Verde since they’ve opened. The first time I had such a great experience so I wanted to bring more friends to enjoy. Well good thing these friends are very cool and open because the experience we had was not a good one. First we waited between an hour to two hours for the various dishes we ordered. They are small dishes so they should not take so long to prepare. Then our order was incorrect and it took 45 min to correct the dish. I really didn’t want to give the dish away because I was so hungry but we ordered guac w/o cilantro for my friend who is intolerant to it. And while the food was still tasty it was inconsistent with the first time. The Cauliflower tacos were definitely different. The corn was consistent and awesome!!
Now desserts...absolutely horrible. The cheese cake that I bragged about from my first visit was totally different. The first time it was a cheese cake with mango sauce and had a creamy consistency. This time it had a different shape rectangle instead of triangle, which is fine. But the cake was frozen, we were cutting through ice and the ends were like mush, consistency waaayyy off. Also the cake itself seemed to be infused with the tart mango flavor instead of just having the mango component as the sauce, this was overwhelming and not desirable. We wound up sending it back. We also ordered the pudding which was horrible, was my first time having it so I’m not sure if it was an off night for it.
I think it best to go early in the week when it’s not busy. More time and love seems to be put into the food. I will never go on the weekend again. But with that experience it would be a long while before I consider going back.
Disappointed, expensive and nothing special. You are better of going to a regular Mexican restaurant and ordering guacamole and quesadilla there. The space is small, cramped and super noisy you cannot carry a conversation. The portions are small and nothing special. We had the nachos that barely had any guacamole , the mushroom carnitas and the cauliflower tacos. Two small tacos for $16 we little filling. I am very disappointed especially after so much hype about the place and the chef.
The food was phenomenal - very creative and fun and vibrant. The cocktails - all sustainable and earth-friendly - were equally creative and delicious. Everything felt perfect and the waitstaff was just wonderful. I cannot say enough fabulous things about our experience here. Totally loved it and will be back!
What a fabulous new restaurant! We never imagined cheeseless Mexican food and yet these vegan dishes couldn’t be tastier. Interesting combinations, great beers and drinks, lovely service and very fair prices. We can’t wait to return and try some more of the interesting dishes.
All of the food I tasted was exceptionally fresh and delicious! Each dish had incredibly great and unique flavors that just left me wanting to sample more. I felt that the highest quality of ingredients were used and as decadently delicious as everything was, it all felt guilt free and healthful! Presentation was beautiful and the wait staff was friendly and wonderfully helpful. Though I am vegetarian, I believe absolutely everyone would love this place and find the food completely satisfying and a feast for anyones palate. Nothing was heavy as mexican food can often be, and for me personally, it was so good to know that the entire menu was vegan. Good for individual health, the environment, and of course, the animals . Such a win! I look forward to going back and indulging on these fresh, unique and mouthwatering dishes again! :)
Mathew Kenney is a vegan food genius--making things that are simultaneously beautiful, plant-based, fresh and delicious, and all with zero trace of the moralizing hippie-ishness you might expect in a purely vegan establishment (and this coming from a lifelong plant-based diner who grew up in all of those hippie establishments!). This place is chic, friendly, and totally delicious. We love their sister restaurant double zero next door, but taking this fresh vegan approach to mexican food is a match made in heaven.
Bar Verde was top-notch. Had the Elote and Pozole Verde to start. Both good but really enjoyed the Pozole. Then followed with an amazing Farro Chorizo taco (very spicy) and a Maitake Mushroom Carnitas taco. The wait staff are still getting their sea legs but all and all a very good experience—Would go back any time.
Absolutely loved both of the meals I've had at Bar Verde and can't wait to go back. Everything is incredibly fresh, creative and authentic. Plus it all happens to be plant-based!
Must try the following...
-Mushrom Tamales (don't always love mole, but they nailed it)
-Truffle Potato Flautas (loved the flavors and crunch!)
-Jackfruit barbacoa tacos
Was really happy that 00+co, the sister restaurant to Bar Verde, didn't close, as they both have the same address and I was actually worried about that. Once that was out of the way, the food was great here as well! highly recommend the churros, cheesecake (which pairs perfectly with the Cava Brut they have...like literally perfectly), really any tacos, and the smoked potato app. Make a reservation, as this place was packed when I got there, but overall its worth going to.
