Absolutely delicious. My friend got the nachos as an appetizer - and received a healthy serving. The empanadas are $15 and come with 3 teeny pieces. Go for the nachos instead.
All Matthew Kenney fabulousness. Don’t miss it.
I thought the restaurant was a breath of fresh air health wise - very interesting creative vegan dishes - my only complaint was that it was unbearably noisy - couldn't hear a word over the noise - extremely difficult to have any conversation
My sister and I were looking for a restaurant with some healthier options and came across Bar Verde. I made reservations but we were not seated for another 40 minutes. They were very hospitable, offered us a comped beverage for the inconvenience which was nice. When we finally sat down and ordered our food, things came out fairly quickly and was so so delicious that it was actually worth the wait.
We ordered the Hearts of Palm Ceviche, the Little Gem salad, the jackfuit tacos and the spicy cauliflower tacos.
Another superb Matthew Kenney joint. When food tastes this good you don't have to tell anyone it's vegan. You just tell them it's amazing. Service was spot on, cocktails were great. The ceviche and tamales were the best I've had.
I haven’t had good Mexican food in a LONG time since I’m vegan. The place is super cute, small, but still good. It was a little warm so dress in layers during the winter so you can be comfortable.
The food is outstanding!! We had nachos to start - no picture since I was starving. I had the enchiladas and my husband had the empanadas.
Excellent vegan mexican food. Very creative, nice, 'balanced' meals. Overall a little spicy for my wife, but they were able to accommodate us to remove the spice
Hands down this and other Matthew Kenney restaurants best vegan in thr city. To get such greet food and ambiance in a vegan place is incredible.
Fantastic vegan cuisine. I have some dietary restrictions, as well, and they staff was more than accommodating and kind. The drinks were good, the ambiance was great, and the food was delicious. I'd recommend the corn to start. The presentation was also fantastic.
Responsible, unique cocktails - everything is fresh and thoughtfully combined to solid effect, though not quite sublime. The food echoes this attention to detail - perfect crisp spinach tortilla on the jackfruit chimichanga is very slightly undermined by an incomplete infusion of flavor and texture. , Vivid cilantro and savory cauliflower make for flawless enchiladas. The nachos are flavorful but the vegan cheese sauce is sightly unbalanced in volume and flavor. It's s fine meal, but falls just short of top tier.
I loved my experience at this restaurant. Due to weather conditions I was very late for my reservation but the hostess Pam was great! She still held the reservation and accommodated us when we walked it. The service remained impeccable with the waitress Dani. She was very friendly and checked on us regularly. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the loaded nachos for starters. I will def be returning.
Got the prix fix Valentine’s Day special. At first me and my girlfriend were worried the plates were going to be small, but once the third of five courses arrived we were starting to feel full. Drinks with every course was a plus. The waitstaff was very friendly and attentive.
Made reservations weeks in advance. Walked in and the tables were so close together they had to move them to let me in. Also the music was so loud it gave me a headache. I left without even ordering. Went to XYST instead which is the same owner but much better ambiance.
What a great vegan find! We shared the mango guacamole, nachoes, quesadillas and mushroom tacos. All were very tasty and decent sized portions. The margaritas were also made very well. It was quiet when we went for an early dinner on a Sunday night, and the service was very good! I would return.
As a huge fan of Double zero I couldn't wait to try this place. Went on a Saturday night. Mostly the service was the problem as my waiter forgot few things and seemed to be out of it. The nachos were great but wasn't super impressed w the tacos we got. Maybe just being spoiled in NYC w so much good vegan food.
Amazing food and service. The price was incredible given the amount of delicious and flavorful food. I’ve been to “authentic” Mexican restaurants before and I lived in Tucson for a while. Bar Verde is without question some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Highly recommend. I can’t wait to come back.
Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. Food was delicious! Will definitely be back soon.
I really want to love this place. I’m vegan and the menu is so enticing. We had the nachos which were awesome. Then had the basic burrito which was solid but not spectacular and the truffle potato flautas with kale shredded on them but they were so soaked in lime juice they just tasted like lime flautas! The mango cheesecake was fine. Big thing is too stuffed with bodies when busy! We were there Thursday night at 7:30. And it’s basically impossible to talk to whomever you’re with. I’m definitely going back to try other stuff (tacos!) at an off peak time.
Fresh tasting margarita, posole was excellent; nachos were ordinary, ordered the jackfruit tacos and they were outstanding; the chorizo tacos were good.
I love 00 and co so had high expectations. I was a little disappointed. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing (quesadillas). It wasn't extremely flavorful and I thought was pretty pricey for small portions. I like the atmosphere and would try it again for dinner instead of brunch.
Great Vegan Mexican meal! Best, freshest guacamole ever. Spicy cauliflower tacos were delicious. Chocolate pudding - rich, sinful.
The food was good. Not great. It was a full house on a Saturday night at 7:30 pm. They are on the newish side so maybe their still working out the kinks but the service was painful. I would try out his other restaurants one bike
This place finds its footing ( XYST & Double Zero)
Always a great meal
Another disappointing NYC restaurant experience. Despite the restaurant not being busy, service was super slow. It took about 20 minutes for the waiter to bring us drinks. The portions here are small, expensive, and not memorable. Save your money.
Matthew Kenny's vegan cuisine is exceptional. This restaurant is no exception. The food is extraordinary. Fresh, unusual ingredients, great cocktails. The only problem is the lack of space, tables are crowded together, and the noise level is pretty vibrant! Great food. Will return for the food, but wish they'd free up the table space (makes dining a bit awkward in such a tight space...)
Great food. Clean, tasty... a great vegan Mexican gem. Thank you Matthew Kenney.
Th food was creative and delicious! I had the jackfruit tacos and my friend had the cauliflower ad they were both amazing!! We sat by the window which was nice. The lighting in the restaurant creates nice ambiance. Service was wonderful and kept refilling my water without my having to ask. Only complaint is that the tables are put so close together that my skinny self had trouble squeezing through to get up. That's a pet peeve of mine though is packing so many tables in that you are trapped once you sit. Luckily no one was seated next to us so we were able to move the table out of the way to get up. Would come back with my gf for the amazing food. Would not come back with my husband as I know the tight seating would annoy him.
Plant-based Mexican food piqued my curiosity -- "farro chorizo"? NOT a substitute for Mexican food with meat, so I'm not likely to return, but it provides a vegan variation for people who conform to that diet, and the drinks were delicious. Nice ambience, friendly service.
Enjoyed a lovely brunch with my sister. Flavors were very good for both our dishes - though somewhat similar (we were hoping there'd be more of a variety between the two dishes) - and portions were hearty. Cocktails packed a punch. I got the impression that the staff (bar, wait, service) weren't completely on top of things. I'm looking forward to going back and trying their dinner menu.
My boyfriend and I tried this place after absolutely LOVING Double Zero next door. When we heard it was the same company we were very keen on coming here as soon as we could. Our experience was underwhelming at best. The food was okay. It didn't wow us, and the portions were pretty small. The restaurant didn't seem particularly busy but the service was inattentive. We waited close to 20 minutes for a slice of mango cheesecake that never came, and our waiter never updated us to the situation. We ended up canceling it so we could catch a movie.
The staff needs some serious training. If drinking on the job will hamper your ability to serve customers then the topic should definitely be revisited.
When I arrived it was pretty quiet. Our server, Miguel, had many suggestions. The nachos and flautas were incredible! I had a mezcal margarita that I love. The churros were underwhelming but overall I’d still give 5 stars. It started getting packed and loud closer to 8pm
I love everything about Bar Verde. From their sustainable, handcrafted cocktails to their always creative and always mouth-watering delicious food to the friendliness and attentiveness of their waitstaff to their commitment to being cruelty-free and ethical to the decor. This restaurant is such a treat. I went there most recently on a date and the waiter seated us in a cozy corner in the back. We both ordered cocktails, which were phenomenal and then shared several different kinds of tacos, each one of which was terrific and a conversation starter due to the chef's creativity. It was so much fun! I love this place.
LOVE! Vegan Mexican that was 100% ON POINT!!! From nachos to tempura avocado tacos to the mango cheesecake. Non-vegan friends fell in love with this place too. :)
This place is great! The food is very healthy plant based. If you are already vegan or just looking to change it up, you should try this place!
Enjoyed dining at Bar Verde for my Christmas in New York Holiday Dinner! Flew from Hawaii to New York for Christmas and was so happy to be able to find this Gem for a nice plant based Christmas Dinner with my Hubby!!! It was hard to find an open plant based restaurant and open table helped me find and reserve Bar Verde! Enjoyed the friendly service and ambiance. We sat in a corner window seat in low lighting which turned out to be Romantic as the restaurant wasn't very busy. Great Experience. Hoping to make it back one day just for an ordinary meal. Wishing Hawaii had all the plant based Eateries as New York.
I thought it was great food but the portions were rather small.
The food is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Vegan? What meal was vegan ... that’s how good it was. My only teensy tinsy complaint is that there isn’t a lot of seating space, but that is to be exp cited in the east village. I will be back!!
Great food and drinks. Excellent service. I will definitely return!
