Bar Vasquez Ratings and Reviews
Getting a reservation at Bar Vasquez isn't always easy, and getting one during Baltimore Restaurant week was a stroke of luck. OK, it was a Monday, but I'm so glad we grabbed it. The food was everything we had heard and could have hoped for, flavorful and chili-spicy, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. The bread would have been excellent by itself, but we were sold at the first taste of malbec-reduction herb butter -- pure genius! The orechietti pasta appetizer with sauteed shrinp and calamari was simple but very tasty, and the saffron potato soup with leeks and smoked chili oil was out of this world. Our main courses (one dorado, the other fried green tomatoes) were beautiful and perfectly prepared), and the raspberry mousse and dark chocolate tart were the perfect finish. But what may be even more memorable than the perfect food was the wait staff, attentive, unobtrusive, and seamlessly handing off to each other . Our hat's off to chef and management. We will definitely be back!
My husband and I went here for date night. We were both very excited about the restaurant itself, very beautifully done. The food and service were amazing. The bar scene was hopping as we were leaving dinner and we both thought it would be great to come back and have a cocktail at the bar before dinner next time.
I wanted to try Bar Vasquez and Restaurant Week was the perfect time to do so. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in the service and the meal. The restaurant was very busy but I expected it to be that way for a Saturday night. We were seated right away and the restaurant looks great. Great atmosphere! But, sadly this is when things started going downhill. After sitting at our table for 20 minutes (+) and not seeing a waiter/waitress... I finally waved someone down and had to ask... Who is our waiter as we wanted to order some drinks. This other waiter was kind enough to track him down and we finally ordered drinks. Waited another 20 minutes for our drinks to be served by someone other than our waiter. Almost an hour into sitting at the table our waiter appears again. Didn't give us his name ... didn't ask if this was our first time at the restaurant.... didn't mention any specials.. just pointed to the two menus we were given and said... "I guess you've seen the one menu is the Restaurant Week menu and we have our regular menu. We ordered from the Restaurant Week menu. I had the steak as did my son. My husband had the chicken. Waited... and waited... an waited... no sign of our waiter asking if we wanted another drink. We were served our meal, again not by our waiter, and the plates looked so unappetizing and boring. Just a piece of steak with what looked like twice baked potato that had been made into a potato pancake with a plop of butter on it. No green, no concern about presentation. Steak was undercooked even though I had asked for medium and there were VERY rare parts in the steak! Hmm why didn't I send it back..? Well, when you don't see your waiter again until the end when he is handing you the bill... hard to do! Dessert was terrible and in fact after one bite... I left it. What a disappointment! I would think Restaurant Week is to showcase your food and restaurant to entice new people. I won't be back!!
We were there for New Years eve. Advertised live music was a live DJ. Food was excellent. Veal, duck, and tuna cerviche were delicious. Service was very good overall. Their pace was a bit faster than we wanted to go at. Staff did take plates with food on it twice without asking if we were done. Second time we reported it to sever and she got us new dish. So it worked out. Definitely will go back and recommend to my foodie friends.
Went for prefix dinner event for NYE. Food was good and staff excellent. DJ for the event was mediocre and tad disappointing and didn’t even do a count down for midnight. None of us really cared for desert options with dinner but 1st and 2nd course were good.
My boyfriend and I had a reservation for New Year's Eve at 8:30pm. We booked something fairly early because we wanted to be back in our Harbor view hotel room for midnight. We got to the restaurant about 15 minutes early so headed to the bar for a drink. The whole environment at Bar Vasquez was stunning and eloquently decorated for the holiday. The space is beautifully laid out with a bar section, an open middle section with comfy chairs and couches and then a back section with tables. And there is also an upstairs section where you can look out over the first floor. If you prefer a lower noise level, there are tables around the outside of the upstairs too. The wait staff was attentive without being pushy. We wanted to linger for a few hours (we left around 11:15pm) and that was no problem. The food was excellent. Even though this is an Argentine place probably serving awesome beef, we got duck and tuna for our entrees, both of which were incredibly prepared and simply melted in our mouths. I highly recommend Bar Vasquez for a great night out in Baltimore!
Second time dining here...very disappointed. We arrived on a very cold evening. We were greeted at the door, but no one offered to check our coats. We had to do that ourselves. While hanging the coats they took two from our party upstairs without waiting to escort all of us. What was the rush? After being seated and drinks ordered, we had to ask for bread three times. Why three? It wasn't busy. Time to order starters. What? They ran out of calamari at 7:30? A restaurant that claims they are high end runs out of squid? Time for entrees. A shrimp salad was ordered, but what came out was not. Another 10 minutes to get her order correct. Our final comment is that our initial waiter really didn't service our table. He was too busy socializing with two other tables of two leaving the service of our table of five to whoever we could wave down to help. We had four servers throughout the night. So...there are plenty of choices in Harbor East. We will be exercising our options and will choose another establishment next time.
Bar Vasquez has good food, but not GREAT food. If that is really important, if you are looking for great steak or seafood, look somewhere else (just being honest). HOWEVER, if you are looking for great ambiance and service, Bar Vasquez is second to none. It's an amazing restaurant with great live music. It's a great place for any date night or special occasion.
Great service, beautiful space and great atmosphere. Had live guitar players. The food was very good. The menu was pretty meat-heavy but they were very accommodating in making vegan options for me, which I greatly appreciated. I highly recommend this place for a date or special occasion.
While expensive, this was great for our special occasion (late Thanksgiving Dinner with our oldest son). Bread basket was very nice. I had their cheese Empanada; great flavor and flaky tender crust. My husband and our son had filet mignon, which were very good. I had the New York Strip Steak, which for medical reasons, I had to have medium-well plus to well done. Flavor was good; however, there was a lot of grizzle in my steak. You can have your choice of several sauces for your meat entree; I had their homemade steak sauce, which I liked. My husband had the lime chimichurri and son had the Merlot butter sauce. For sides, we had the wild mushrooms (chanterelles) over homemade polenta and wilted spinach. The spinach was tasty and a very generous serving; mushrooms and polenta were very tasty, but a very small serving, especially for price. We had their sundae with roasted pistachio ice cream and a very fudgey chocolate with candied nuts and a dark chocolate syrup (several toppings available). Great dessert. Service was good and staff members were very accommodating to me, (in a wheelchair)(note building has a ramp and elevator). We would return often except for the pricing.
This is a very special place, indeed. The food is excellent, service is impeccable. The sommelier was also our server, and he made it a spectacular evening — including a perfect wine selection! My duck breast was luscious; others at the table were equally happy with their choices.
It is quite expensive, but if you’re up for that, go for it!
It took 30 min to get seated for an 8pm reservation. They had a nice lounge that you could wait and get drinks at by the bar. We were really hungry so it was a little disappointing but they had live music that was great. Our table was designed for 5 (we were 6) so it was a little cozy but not the end of the world. Food was excellent. Highly recommend the Cheese Croquets and the Mixed Grill. Food got cold pretty quickly which was disappointing as well. Server was nice and knowledgeable but I think there was quite a bit miscommunication between him and some of the other staff in bringing out the food and drinks (dessert was finished before coffee came out, then came out cold and then took forever to get new hot coffee). Manager was very nice, apologized, took the coffees off the check. Despite all the little inconveniences, I will definitely go back. Music, atmosphere, and food were all great!
I’m really glad to have gone to this restaurant. i enjoyed the ambiance just as much as i enjoyed the meal and my company. There was a wonderful band playing on Saturday night and it really made me feel like like we were in another country. The only complaint i had was that the food was very slow coming out but the server gave us a free dessert to make up for it. i enjoyed this restaurant a lot and would definitely return
This decor and building are truly breathtaking. The food was no comparison. Extremely overpriced, miniscule portions. Argentines are minimalists on seasoning but the quality makes up for it. The fact that I just returned from Buenos Aires 3 weeks prior and was very well fed probably left me with higher than average expectations. They did get the chimichurri right but I won't be back.
Great time there. Overall food was great. The only tricky thing is the bathroom access but since it's near the harbor, it seems standard to only have single uni-sex stalls.
Loved the live guitar music and the overall decor. It hit the balance between fancy without overbearing.
