Lovely, lovely, lovely. Food, ambience, service, drinks - all good. Especially happy that Cherise was able to save a special table we'd requested. A great birthday celebration with great friends.

Having been to Bar Vasquez's predecessor Pazo many times, we braved a snow storm and gave Bar Vasquez a try. We were celebrating a birthday and and a great job review and were in an anticipatory happy mood. We were first directed to a table close by other diners but were given a booth upon request (had already requested a booth on the first floor on the reservation form online but apparently was not noticed). After a few minutes, our server (I am omitting her name in this review but would be glad to discuss this person with someone at Bar Vasquez) came to introduce herself and get drink orders. From the moment she approached us, it was not a friendly feeling at all. The rest of the meal was somewhat tense as she was very perturbed on how and what we ordered, even proclaiming "you ordered a lot of food, and I don't know in what order to bring it out". She would reach over and pull extra plates away and was in general miserable. We did love our food and the live music was very nice. We loved Pazo and we love the building. Bar Vasquez is like the older cousin of Pazo. We just wish we had a better first impression of Bar Vasquez's service.

I took my parents here over the weekend since it was my dad‘s 62nd birthday. Although the food was absolutely delicious and totally worth what you’re paying for, unfortunately we were all quite disappointed by the service. It took our waiter over 20 minutes just come by to give us the menus and to take our drink orders. When the drinks did finally come out, they only brought two out of the four that we had ordered, and we had to wait another 10 minutes for the other cocktails to arrive. While we were waiting to get his attention towards the end of our meal to ask for the check, he stopped by every table except ours despite the fact that we were calling his name and trying to signal him over numerous times. It’s definitely worth checking out since it was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had, but beware of the service and give yourself plenty of time for this dining experience.

First, let me say that the food and cocktails at bar Vasquez were amazing (Wagyu hangar steak and foi gras were out of this world) The Ambiance was warm and inviting on a cold and snowy evening. I was pleased with the volume of the contemporary music that was playing as it made a nice background so that my date and I could hear each other, but our conversation was not carrying across neighboring tables. However, they hosted a live band, turned up the lights and the music became too loud which diminished the experience and we hastily ended our evening. Our waiter was awkward and did not appear to really know much about the menu. It was my first time at Bar Vasquez, so when he approached after being seated and before having the time to open a menu, and asked what we wanted to drink, I said I wanted the signature Manhattan that is part of the restaurants advertising. He seemed confused. My date and I asked for recommendations which didn't really get much of a response. I am still unsure what the specials were. My drink was taken from the table before I was done, flatware was removed while there was still food on the table. Again, the food was awesome, but maybe a little more focus on the ambience and service would go a long way.

There wasn't anything special about the food or service, but the ambiance is excellent, which is why we came in the first place. Probably wouldn't come back for dinner, though.

Dinner was fantastic as usual. My fiancée and I split the chicken empanada, broccoli, and we both got a 7oz tri-tip steak. However, my fiancee’s steak was noticeably smaller than my steak. Not sure if it is because her steak was cooked medium well vs mine being rare. Despite the size difference, the steak was easily one of the best steaks either of us have had. We will definitely keep coming for our anniversary in the future!

So this was my birthday dinner and was looking forward to the reimagined Pazo space and all in all it was a nice evening. The food especially the Chilean Tri Tip and Grilled Octopus were amazing. The Uruguayan Steak Tartare was the best I have ever had. And the hostess very sweetly ensured we had a table with a spectacular view. The issue I had with Bar Vasquez is that at this price point is having to deal with missteps. One appetizer was over done and chef agreed and it was taken off the check and then the sides for our entrees were completely forgotten. We were given dessert on the house which was very nice. Maybe I am picky but when missteps start to happen it makes the dinner awkward

What a beautiful and atmospheric restaurant, and really professional staff at every level. You forget sometimes how good a restaurant really can be when you haven’t been to one of this caliber in a while. The meal was astonishingly good, every individual element prepared to perfection. We had the Camarones y Palmitos (Poached Shrimp, Hearts of Palm, Avocado, Butter Lettuce, Chive, Marie Rose Sauce) - incredibly tender shrimp on the best hearts of palm salad we’d ever had, bar none; Wood Grilled Foie Gras (Pinenut, Baby Arugula, Pear, Apricot Sauce) - rustic, rich; Almond Crusted Merluza a la Plancha (on large lightly browned rounds of Yukon Gold Potato, pea shoots, Bearnaise Sauce) - more of a golden delicious deconstructed crust crumble on top of a thick filet perfectly seared on one side, separating into huge moist delectable flakes; Wood Grilled Lamb Chops from Elysian Fields Farm, Pennsylvania (Charred Cauliflower, Roasted Tomatoes, Lemon Caper Chimichurri) - the large slices of charred cauliflower almost stole the show but the lamb chops (tomahawk style- full rib bone) were so flavorful they won the night! The desserts were equally delicious but I’ve run out of words...

Had a lovely date night here with the wife. A bit of a mixed experience.

The interior is charming.

Drinks - a very extensive menu with solid cocktails and wines. My wife enjoyed her Manhattan and I the Don Ernesto with its sour citrus flavors over crushed ice. I also enjoyed some tasty wines; our waitress was happy to offer her personal favorites of all the drinks.

Appetizers - The tamales are great, definitely recommended. Solid corn flavor with accompanying vegetables and a spicy but not overbearing yogurt sauce make this a fantastic appetizer. The cheese empanadas were also great, as much (if not more so) for the sauce and sliced endive with spiced onion. I was a little underwhelmed by the calamari a la plancha, whose name suggested to me a nice caramelized, slightly charred, squid. This was more of a calamares a la parrilla. Still good, but not quite what I was expecting. A hefty dose of tomato flavor overtook most of the promised orange flavor and even capers.

Main - Got the Asado mixed grill. The ribeye was cooked and sliced nicely and topped with chimichurri sauce. I happen to really enjoy morcilla, but if blood sausage isn't your thing, maybe steer clear. The other pork sausage was quite nice. As for sweetbreads... I must thank food editor Gail Simmons for describing their flavor as a chicken nugget, 'cause it's kind of accurate, especially the crispy outer edge. The inner part is thick and fatty. The corn was delicious, but feel like I wanted more.

Service - A couple of items were forgotten. The attempted team effort falls flat, resulting in a "left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing situation." Our main waitress was friendly, but often absent for long periods of time. To her credit, she often apologized and tried to make things right when it took a long time for items to come out. It was a Monday night; only about 1/5 of the tables had been filled, so I'm curious how backed up things could get on a weekend.

This was our first visit to Bar Vasquez--a Saturday night--having already been to Charleston, Cingiale, and Petite Louis (and then we visited Johnny's the next day for lunch), the other high-end Wolf-Foreman restaurants. Bar Vasquez grabs you the minute you enter. It's a wild happening place with a great bar, a large lounge and live music. Upstairs is a more romantic dining atmosphere. The service is very good--attentive, knowledgeable and personable. The GM stopped by our table multiple times. The food is outstanding. We shared the calamari and corn appetizer. For entrees we each had the fowl two ways (grilled breast and leg confit), served with hedgehog mushrooms and Brussels sprouts. For a side we shared the classic papas fritas with Malbec aioli for dipping. These are the Argentine version of French fries and were hands down the best we'd ever had. CAUTION: this is a very large portion more suitable for sharing amongst four people. We loved it, but clearly ate too much for two people:). We also enjoyed a wonderful bottle of Malbec with the meal. Our only complaint is a common one with the Wolf-Foreman establishments: very anemic pours of spirits. We drink our whiskeys neat, so this stingy approach to the bar really jumps out. It's the only consistent complaint we have with their restaurants, which otherwise are fabulous.

I visited this restaurant on February 9. I had an excellent experience from start to finish. I was greeted by 3 very friendly, upbeat hostesses who directed me to the bar to wait for the other person joining me. I had a perfect Moscow Mule (though I don't think it's listed as such on their drink menu). When my date arrived we were shown to our table and in short order we were greeted by our server who was also friendly and very informative and helped us make our selections. Everyone was attentive without being intrusive throughout the evening. I had the lamb chops with the spicy chimmichurri and it was joy in my mouth. My date had the New York Strip that he said was fantastic. We shared empanadas de puerco and croquetes de queso for the appetizer and we shared wilted spinach and smashed potatoes with the entrees. I enjoyed a wonderful malbec with my dinner that was the absolute perfect accompaniment. It was all just so very, very good. We will be back soon!!

This restaurant exceeded expectations in atmosphere, food quality and service. The live music set the perfect scene. I would like there to be live music during the week, but alas, you can only enjoy it on the very busy weekend times. Perhaps if there was the same quality musicians during the week, those days would also see increased business. It is very pricey but worth it for a special occasion.

Went for restaurant week and had a really nice time. Portions were not huge but the quality was excellent. Paired wines were also very good (they complemented the food well). Our server was kind and unpretentious- we really liked her. The talented musicians playing tango music was a nice surprise. All in all - a great experience. Not sure we can afford the menu on a regular basis though-- seems pretty pricey for Baltimore. I think they may need to modify this and have broader choices and wider price range to stay popular. But would definitely recommend for a special occasion.

Superb. Gracious host and wait staff. Best beef empanadas we've ever eaten. My young son and I loved the orecchiete pasta appetizer consisting of a spicy tomato sauce with shrimp and calamari. it. We all had the NY strip steak which was beautifully marbled throughout. My glass of Bonarda, recommended after I asked for a low acid wine, was spot on. All the food I've described was delicious, but the strawberry mousse was the star. We thought this was one of the most memorable dessert we've had almost ever (no hyperbole) My boy described how he enjoyed the specks of white chocolate accented the citrusy flavor of the mousse. Recommend Saturday night for the music.
We'll be coming back very soon, ready to eat some excellent Argentinian beef.

Tried Bar Vasquez for the first time during restaurant week. The food ranged from good ( ceviche was too salty) to excellent (saffron potato soup was wonderful) and the service and ambiance were fine as well with an Argentine inspired tango band playing Saturdays. A nice Argentine Malbec was reasonably priced and delicious. We looked at the regular menu; however, and thought that from what we could tell it was overpriced for regular dining.
