What Insiders Are Saying
Bar Takito is like a tuxedo T-Shirt - it wants to be formal, but go here for some tacos, drinks, and to party.
Nice ambiance and great food & drinks. I will be back!
Lunch with friends. The food was great!
We made a reservation on Opentable for 7:15pm, and when we arrived at the restaurant at 7pm, they were already cleaning up and closing for the day and gave us no explanation why. The open hours on the door also said they should have still been open.
Not quite what I expected, but enjoyable nonetheless. Went for my birthday, thinking it was more of a bar atmosphere; pretty empty around 9:30pm. Definitely a great place to start your night. The drinks were delicious.
I definitely recommend getting shared plates and sharing tacos. The taco plates are small, so mix and match some with a shared plate or two. The food is great. It’s very similar to Takito Kitchen (nearly same menu) but more of the West Loop vibe.
We were here for the first time - and now I wonder what took us so long. The food was delicious and interesting - from our shared appetizer (a trio of guacamole) to dessert. We look forward to going again soon.
My date’s food came out at least 10 minutes after mine. I waited to eat my food until hers was ready so it was cold by the time I ate it.
We had a nice time and the food was great, but the server didn’t check in with us after the food was served. And we had to go find her to get our check.
The place was empty and the service was terrible!!!!!
Awesome food, great Margaritas, wonderful service! Thanks Phil for always taking great care of us!!
Very over priced. Shrimp taco was inedible. Not sure if it was the sauce or fish itself.
Had a great time at Bar Takito. The tacos and arepas were amazing, guac trio was awesome. The servers did a great job with everything. Would reccomend.
It was really nice but our server was very slow
Good food, not great for children as they do not accommodate.
Service was poor. Waited forever to order. Once we did, 4 of 5 entree’s came out. I finally called attention to this. Waiter apologized, then after some time brought out the wrong entree. He was totally confused.
Then he never came back to check on us or bring our bill. Again waited forever. And there was only one other table of patrons.
My tacos were very good(fish with coconut) but others thought there tacos were just OK. Coconut rice as a side was good.
Overall not impressed and not worth a trip from the Loop for lunch
We did not receive good service and that brought the whole experience down. Food was good, nothing notable.
Great ambience. Great Staff. Good Drinks. Food was good as well, however the price for two bite tacos are on the expensive side.
Love this place. Great creative drinks and food combinations. Small
Plate options which show the culinary art of the chef. Affordable.
Went for Sunday brunch. The food was delicious portion size was good. Hostess was kind and sweet.
We dined at Bar Takito to celebrate a birthday in which I coordinated dessert and candles in advance. To our disappointment, the waitstaff visited our table twice the entire evening and was preoccupied with the other patrons around us. Our waitress recommended way too little food - we all left starving. Although the food was good, we received our entrees over an hour after we sat down and it came one by one. Management was flippant and impatient with us, despite never complaining once! We sat for over thirty minutes without drinks or appetizers and could barely hear one another given how loud the establishment is. The table next to us received their meal within minutes of sitting down and were doted on all evening while we could barely track someone down. We did not receive any dessert to celebrate the birthday and honestly could not wait to get the heck out of this place. Although the value is good for the quality, I would never recommend Bar Takito to anyone given the incompetent and disrespectful management, aloof waitstaff, and average food. There are WAY too many other good restaurants in the city to waste your time at Bar Takito. Huge disappointment.
I love this place. I'm just sad that they discontinued the ceviche!!! 😔 The Seasonal Margerita was the bomb!!!
It was Taco Tuesday, I’m not sure if that meant tacos were on special though. We ordered three different tacos and all were delicious. The shrimp cocktail was not typical but was very delicious. The service was pretty subpar. There are so many great restaurants in this city so I don’t think I’ll go back here any time soon.
Amazing- per usual. The cucumber margaritas are THE best margaritas I’ve ever had. The steak arepa is my favorite item on their dinner menu. All their tacos are delicious and their avocado pure is out of this world.
Tacos are kinda small but good. We had the shrimp and steak tacos. Guac was excellent!
Order at least one app and one entre or you'll go home hungry. Portions are tiny. Smallest steak tacos I've ever had. About the size of half a dollar bill. Less than an ounce of meat. It was comical.
Fantastic restaurant! Food was amazing and service was exceptional! I will definitely be back.
My favorite place to bring visitors to eat in Chicago. Even my picky eater friends walk away amazed at how good the food and drinks are!
Great food and atmosphere experience! We went before a concert and took advantage of happy hour drinks and tacos. Presentation and taste was excellent. Such a fun treat! A true gem in the west-loop.
Great food....great variety. Awesome Chef....let the chef pick your food. Fantastic drinks, love the spicy cucumber Marg.
Was really excited for the happy hour because they had tacos and margaritas. Margaritas weren't bad, the tacos were par.
Popped in for a lite bite. Enjoyable staff was eager to please and provide quick food. Almost too quick.
All day mimosas area deal, but the abbreviated menu will delight.
Terrible service. Had to move our table twice because of the noise level of large groups. We couldn't even hear each other talk. Ordered a drink at 5:50pm - during happy hour. When we got our bill the drink was $15.50, instead of the happy hour price of $6. I asked the waitress and she said "Well, I didn't put it into the computer until after 6 when happy hour is over so that's the price." Wow, great customer service. P.S. I would NEVER order a tiny margarita for $15.50. That being said, the spicy cucumber margarita was delicious, but not worth the price. Our bill was $80 and we left hungry. I would never go here again.
Great, delicious Mexican with a twist brunch spot. We sat outside for a couple of hours and had a great time.
Big drinks, great food, great service. Great for a special occasion or birthday.
I went to Bar Takito a few weeks ago with a friend and it was pretty empty that Saturday morning. Our food was great, great service - I told all my friends I thought I had found my new favorite brunch spot, especially with $10 bottomless mimosas and amazing food. Their patio is adorable, especially in the summer.
I had friends in town this past weekend so I made a reservation to go back as a group. It was a lot more busy on Sunday during brunch and we had to flag down our waiter several times to order, ask for mimosa refills (after waiting 10 minutes with an empty glass and our waiter passing the table without noticing several times). One friend joined us a bit late and ordered after the group did, but the food never came. He asked after 30 minutes and the manager apologized and said his mimosas were on the house - but cancelled his order instead of giving it to him on the house. Overall I’m really disappointed with the service this past visit, but may give it another try.
Celiacs and those with a gluten sensitivity- please read this.
Menus says it is gluten free. I asked about that and was told 2 dishes on the menu have gluten and that, as someone with celiac disease, I should avoid them. Why the menu as a whole is labeled gluten free, I have no idea. They brought out guacamole and chips. I asked if the chips were gluten free and was told yes. I asked if they were corn vs wheat and was told corn. I asked if they were fried in a fryer with items that had breading on them and was told no. That nothing else is fried in the fryer. I ate 3 before the server rushed over with vegetables for me to eat rather than the chips. Manager said chips are cross-contaminated at the manufacturers, not in-house, with gluten in a fryer. I felt sick from a gluten reaction for next 2 days.
This was the 3rd time I've dined here. We sat on the patio. They manage to create a nice ambiance on the patio despite being right under the train. It gets congested with foot traffic crossing between the patio and door that the servers are using. The servers also struggle to get past guests using the same door. This seemed to cause a delay in service just dealing with the congestion. Besides that our server was great she made sure we got in the happy hour specials before it ended. She got us different drinks when we didn't like the first round that was recommended. So over all the food and service was great but the location seems to do them a disservice.
The food is excellent here, but the service wasn’t great. We visited early on a Friday after work, and the restaurant was maybe half full. It took our server nearly 15 minutes to come and take our drink order, then another 20 minutes for her to come back and take our food order. She seemed more interested in chatting with the bartender than checking on her tables...
Great place for a group of friends. Happy hour margaritas were delicious!
Amazing food and environment but the red metal seats are so uncomfortable. Almost unbearable
