What Insiders Are Saying
Bar Roma is a Italian restaurant and bar in Andersonville with fantastic pastas and Italian small plates.
I love Bar Roma! I come here a lot and have tried many things. It's all good. The meatballs are awesome and I noticed they have some ready made to go which is dangerous for my budget.
I was told my reservation wasn't listed...they switched to ' reserve'..odd
Brought good friends to Bar Roma that we’re visiting from San Diego.. they loved it..
Brunch with friends is always fantastic at Bar Roma
Such a great find!! We were looking for a good place to eat before a show close by and picked Bar Roma for the location. We all LOVED the food!! Handmade pasta? Yes please. So tasty and charming. You’ll definitely be seeing us again soon.
Everyone seems to love this place. I’ve been twice now and don’t get it.
Excellent food and service. Large portions allowing for a great meal the day after!!!
The food was nice, as was our server. We mentioned that it was our anniversary when we made the reservation, and asked for a nice table where we could enjoy the occasion. But we ended up at a pretty small table, squeezed in between two other couples. It was loud. A corner or window table would have been nice.
So go for the food, but maybe don't expect them to notice / accommodate special occasion requests.
I often stop in for a solo dinner. For the price and good food, Bar Roma never disappoints!! I
Despite a 5:30 pm reservation, and sitting down in a nearly empty restaurant. We felt our meal was rushed from start to finish. Our appetizers arrived minutes after ordering them. Our entrees arrived no more than 10 minutes after the apps. While the server did apologize that the entrees 'came 5 minutes faster than they expected'. Five minutes wouldn't have dramatically improved the situation. By the time I started my entree it was at best lukewarm. My dining partner felt her dish lacked adequate seasoning.
For future reference - order your meal in stages so you can control the speed of service.
My husband was so excited to find an Italian restaurant with squid ink pasta; however, the menu described it as lemon white wine sauce and it came with a pomadoro (spicy) sauce. Three people at our table had ordered it and two of them didn’t want a spicy dish. Therefore, food only got three stars. All other starters and dishes were quite tasty. We brought it up to the waiter and he was gracious enough to bring him a birthday dessert and two other complimentary desserts.
Great Italian spot with a good wine list and knowledgeable staff.
Had a birthday meal here with family and friends - pasta is handmade and excellent! Highly recommend!
This is a place we keep coming back to. On our last visit the staff were exceptionally kind and attentive making sure our friend got a comfortable place to sit in the busy bar area (she had just had hip surgery). Food and drinks were great as usual, and at reasonable prices.
Great birthday dinner with friends!
If you want to have some delicious pasta... this is the pace to go. We had meatballs as well everything it was so delicious. Great service and the restaurant is really nice.
The meatballs are fantastic and so was the ricotta gnocchi. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about both the food and how the wine we selected paired with our food selection. Overall a great experience.
The service was fantastic. The salad was the beginning of a poor presentation. The meatballs were TERRIBLE...cold and hard....
We took my parents about for their anniversary. The food was great and everyone enjoyed themselves. Highly recommended!
It was good but not great. Service was very slow.
I ordered the Fettuccine Isabella
Squid ink pasta, shrimp, calamari, Manilla clams, cherry tomato, lemon garlic white wine sauce
The squid ink pasta was so over cooked that it looked like a dark risotto. It had a creamy look. They even added white pasta has a filler. Not a great dining experience.
We have dined at Bar Roma many times and we have always had a pleasant dining experience, unfortunately this time it was not good.
Our waiter offered great service!
A wonderful neighborhood spot. Good for an unplanned date night!!
The food here could be a lot better. Meatballs are good but many of the entrees lack richness or wow factor. The tomato sauce is too sweet. Cocktails also need work. Why are you putting an olive garnish on the Spritz? I like olives, but they don't belong on a Spritz.
Great spot to dine with friends after work. Loved the half priced Wine on Monday!
Absolutely love Bar Roma! Best restaurant in Andersonville! Food is consistently good, service outstanding, cool bar area with great happy hour option's during the week. The only complaint I have is they changed the chicken meatballs a bit- I didn't care for them this time as they were in a much richer cream of chicken soup type of sauce (normally in more of a lighter type of broth with caramelized onions ). Our son loves the homemade pasta's, we also got the branzino and lamb dishes this time- both excellent!
Olive oil & garlic with bread brought to the table is great! Fish was well prepared but not too flavorful. Pastas were fine. Nothing too exciting.
We were there to celebrate a milestone birthday and very excited to try Bar Roma. We called in advance to see if they offered a gluten free cake and since they didn’t we brought our own. The waitress told us twice, I guess in case we forgot after the first time she told us, that there is an $8 cake cutting fee if we consume the cake. The bill was over $150 for three people and a cake fee is kind of ridiculous.
The food was just okay. Steak presentation was gorgeous but the potatoes were soft like they had been cooked hours before. The bruschetta portion sizes were small but flavorful. The eggplant Parmesan was mostly cheese and over cooked. The chicken meatballs were tasty.
Wow! Everything they do here is so good! Meatballs are outstanding (had the chicken and the beef - sauces are great). The pappardelle with oxtail ragu is melt-in-your-mouth. The veal parm was a bit firm (overcooked?) And the bread pudding - warm, with dark chocolate, banana, chocolate & vanilla swirl gelato - OMG!! Katie the server was absolutely terrific too. Thanks for a great meal.
Had a wonderful server who was so nice. Was a bit disappointed that some of the items we wanted were sold out but what we got was fabulous.
Bar Roma is perfect. Whether it’s their happy hour, weekly specials or just a Saturday night dinner they always knock it out of the park. Service, food quality, drink menu, they are THE restaurant to go to in the area.
Went to Bar Roma for the first time with 6 friends for my wife’s birthday. The food was pretty good. The service was excellent. Great setting and ambiance. I would go there again! I rate it as 7 out of 10.
I love this place! The service is excellent, the food is great!
Ally was amazing. If she is working, request her section. Amazing wine knowledge and phenomenal service.
This place is a great neighborhood restaurant with a great menu. Yes the pasta is fresh and delicious , yes try the meatballs (split the order as an appetizer for the table) veal and beef are my favorites and yes, you will not find more genuine and helpful staff. Go! What are you waiting for?!?!
Food was great and service was amazing :)
First time at Bar Roma. We will be back! Loved it!
Flies and an inattentive waitress
Great neighborhood spot for a dinner with a few friends. Comfortable, clean and cozy, with enough of a crowd that it felt like a popular place, but not too loud to have a conversation. The food was tasty, service attentive, and bottled wine was half off (Monday special). Would happily go again.
We stopped here on our way home from Cubs game, We arrived early for our reservation and they seated us immediately. I had the short rib ravioli with a wonderful sauce. My husband had the sea bass and enjoyed it. We loved the arugula and peach salad. The bread is too delicious. The Italian rose wine was excellent. I always go for the French roses and this was excellent! Service was very good and efficient.
Dinner at Bar Roma is always enjoyable. Great, warm service and wonderful food.
