We have been to the restaurant many times and always had great meals. However, last night’s meal was sub par. The octopus dish was mainly beans with a few pieces of octopus. The striped bass was overcooked and rather bland and the tomato broth it was cooked in was also meh.
Fantastic food, very friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere.
Hands-down the best restaurant in Boston - thank you for yet another incredible night! :)
I love how the menu changes with the seasons- great service and wonderful owners.
Always consistently outstanding food and service !
Love this place - great food, great selection, great space, great peeps.
After several visits, still quite good, tho the same dishes on different visits were unevenly presented- a noteworthy point. Interesting wine list requires many tastes before finding the right one... perhaps more mainstream choices could solve that. The addition of a “tip” for the kitchen payroll is particularly offensive- pay them and incorporate it into your pricing. I solved the problem to my satisfaction by insisting half of my tip be awarded to the kitchen. Bar mezzana would get five stars by addressing just a few issues. BTW, very good service staff, and a smart, capable manager who was able to smooth things over quickly and effectively.
The prices are too high end for such poor service. Food and environment were great !
The decor was a little generic and commercial feeling. The menu sounded delicious but the execution was only average. We tasted many dishes on the menu and were not wowed. The highlight was the range of tasty Italian wines by the glass. We expected something special and instead our experience was fairly bland.
Great food, service and atmosphere. Tasting menu was great. Would definitely recommend and will definitely come back again.
Casual, delicious, easy, perfect summer in the city evening. The menu is wonderful. The wine list was creative...and the Sox game was on the TV. And Valet Parking...a huge plus. Love that there are lots of ways to go with this menu. We ordered several appetizers and shared, with a bottle of wine. I want to do all crudo and cocktails, next time. Entrees at the bar the time after that. Really fun and flavorful.
Wonderful meal, but noise level was too high for me.
Everything prepared with great care. Snacks not to be missed are Arancini and Meatballs, pastas are delicious. Server was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wines and service was great even with a packed house.
Amazing food and service. We’ll be back for sure.
We arrived to a great welcoming staff. They seated us very promptly. The person bringing us water was very attentive. The waitress was phenomenal and had a great sense of humor as we indulged her in our humor! She was great in that she was quick to give us info about all of our choices and really understood the menu! That is a rarity. She will remember that she said the water is GREAT! That is what started the humorous banter. She deserves a grand round of applause.
We had the chef’s tasting meal. It was just excellent! The crudo and pasta were particular high points. This was the best meal out we have had in Boston in some time!
If you like raw seafood, then I would recommend this restaurant. However, if you don't like raw seafood then the menu options are more limited and I would hesitate to recommend it. That being said, the food we ordered was very good. I'm in the "no raw seafood" camp, but my BF loves it. He ordered the crudo sampler. It was supposed to come out in 2 separate servings, which it did - but they came one immediately after the other (so basically the servings came together). I especially enjoyed the tomato/anchovy bruschetta. It was scrumptious. I think it's a good place for appetizers and drinks. They do have outdoor sidewalk seating if you want.
We had a great birthday dinner at Bar Mezzana! Loved everything we ordered and the atmosphere of the restaurant. Great for special occasions and celebrations when you don't mind spending a bit of money on food and a nice bottle of wine. Well worth it though!
JUST DELICIOUS! I ordered a pasta with fava and parmaggiano-it was amazing. My mom and I went just for a fun night out-this was a great spot-AND we scored on street parking.
We had a great time!!! Good food and good atmosphere.
Bar Mezzana is a gem! Truly delicious food, enviting atmosphere and excellent service. The "snacks" and "crostini " are generous in portion and they are ALL good. Love the fresh-made pastas dishes, as well. We will definitely return.
Wonderful food with a unique twist to menu offerings. Excellent service. Generously helped make our daughter’s 21st birthday extra-special. Thank you!!
Forget the ‘what would u recommend ‘category.Just go.
Bravo. Our front of the house professional was amazing and the food was too. The brick chicken was perhaps the best chicken I have ever had and all the other dishes such as the pasta, salad, brucetta, were equally up there!
We celebrated our engagement at Bar Mezzana. It was a tremendous experience and the staff really made us feel very special. The food was delicious as always. You can't really top this place for food, service or overall experience. So grateful for the help in planning and executing a great day!
My friends and I chose Bar Mezzana because we had a gift certificate there and were so pleasantly surprised by the family style dining experience we decided to try! The dishes were diverse, colorful and absolutely delectable. We loved the whole experience and will definitely return.
The food was excellent - wonderfully prepared and executed; great service. Highly recommend. Also the bar area looked comfortable, friendly.
Everything we ate here was delicious. The staff was extremely kind and accomodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal!
Our mature server was wonderful, attentive, gave great descriptions, recommended an interesting spritzer in a can from Italy call Ramona, made with organic grapes from Sicily. The dates, nectarines, lamb chops and the duck egg raviola were fabulous...my husband liked his halibut, but not so much the accompaniments and the panna cotta was lack luster...too firm, in my travelled experience, a really good panna cotta is sublime and somewhat loose and room temp. This was very firm and cold...black walnuts were a little overbearing but the caramelized figs fabulous...could eat just those for dessert. We prefer more laid back and in the background music, not loud, with a heavy constant beat to it..that does distract from the food and see this comment in other reviews. Overall a great experience, would come back and would recommend. FYI, we are from Marthas Vineyard, not the New York Area, as the review states online...OT site has a glitch...cannot correct.
We sat outside because the indoor noise level was so bad. Outdoor heater did little to help when it got cool outside.
Food was goo not great or really interesting even tho it sounded so. Would not rush back
Great food! We felt a little rushed but loved the atmosphere and drinks.
Absolutely perfect dining experience from being led to a table, excellent wait service, interesting and delicious food. We will be be back .
Great food with poor service.
Very good food. Very poor service.
Girlfriend and I went here on a whim to celebrate a special night. We had no expectations. I had eaten here once or twice before and remember it being really excellent.
We went with the tasting menu. We weren't super hungry but our waiter assured us it wasn't a huge tasting menu but that we would be full. We were blown away by the quality of the food, the artful presentations and the service. We didn't do the wine pairings but we had two glasses each, recommended by our waiter, and they were on the money. The one quibble is our first two courses came out before our first glass of wine, but that wasn't a big deal. Just a little uncoordinated. Everything was great, including desert, and our waiter graciously gave us a round of complementary digestif, one I hadn't tried before, and it was fantastic.
Not sure if it was the lack of expectations or what but this was a top notch dining experience. I've done a few tasting menus and this ranks up there. Never felt rushed like I have with omkase in the past. My good tandaed for tasting menu is Cragie on Main in the Boston area and this stacks up. It's not quite as high brow but it's also less than an third of the cost of that menu.
Don't hesitate to eat here. What a great place. Can't wait to return.
I'm a big fan of Italian wine and crudo, so I was looking forward to dining here. The menu is a great - lots of options but not overwhelming. My husband is a vegetarian and there was plenty for him to chose from. Really well-edited wine by the glass selection, not just a bunch of standbys. Our server was lovely and had thoughtful suggestions. The lobster paccheri was delcious, as was my crudo dish. On the service end, they seem a bit understaffed, but we didn't have any problems. I'm looking forward to coming back!
Great place. Sat outside which was wonderful. Crudo platter was extremely fresh & excellent. Eggplant crostini was wonderful (and I do not like eggplant). Pea ravioli was perfect. Fresh peas & beans on top & very light. Definitely a great place to go.
Told a friend who Is foodie I was visiting Boston and he said not to miss Mezzana. He was so right! What a fabulous place. As appetizers we ordered the yellow tail and shima aji with caviar crudos and the chicken liver crustini...all outstanding! I had fresh made spaghetti with lemon and pepper which was out of this world. My husband had the halibut which he also loved. Can’t wait to go back and try some of the other interesting menu items. Also a very cool atmosphere. Try this unique, one of a kind restaurant. You won’t be sorry.
Spectacular crudo, buttery, delicious Brussels sprouts. My dining companions loved the ravioli and fusilli with fava. Excellent wines from a large selection.
