Bar Italia Ratings and Reviews
2nd visit in 2 weeks - dined at the bar this time (am a dine at the bar kinda guy) and although very pleasant did not have a great vibe for dining. Food, Service, etc all still great this is just a personal preference . . . defiantly will be back - at a table 😀
The only thing we do not take issue with about our experience at Bar Italia was the service. There must have been at least 4 people who took care of us. The small round table was tight for 4 people - not enough room for all the plates and my 6 ft 4 uncle. The space is so noisy we could barely hear the maitre d recite the specials in his thick Italian accent.
The food was shockingly tasteless, and in the case of one appetizer - false advertising. No way was that real buffalo mozzarella (tasteless and solid; not soft, creamy or runny) nor was it worth $22 by any stretch. The carbonara that the waiter said was 'the best' had no richness or depth of flavor. My uncle asked for salt for a dish that is notoriously salty. While on the contrary, the salmon carpaccio was oversalted - I was crunching on chunks of it. Two afogados, fruid salad and a crepe nutella for dessert were barely the saving grace - can't really screw them up.
We work hard for our money and are happy to spend it on expensive meals that are worth it. This was not one of those cases. We are dismayed (disgusted, really) at a $460 bill for a 4 person meal that did not even include a bottle of wine. Never again.
The food was presented beautifully, the menu is well designed for people with all tastes. I had the mushroom risotto that was perfectly prepared. My dinner partner had the Branzino that was served whole minus the bones and seared on the inside. Delicious. Service was very good from being seated until the last moment. Thank you Bar Italia. We will see you soon
Bar Italia is by far my favorite Italian restaurant in NYC. The services is always exceptional and the food is amazing. My fiancé and I invited special friends of ours from Denver and they were so very impressed that they cant wait to return to NYC to visit Bar Italia.
Swordfish was very good and juicy (not overlooked!), liver was good but a bit too salty. Flan was a bit heavier/denser than is typical, almost a cross between a flan and a Creme brûlée.
Wait staff very pleasant and accommodating. Quarters a bit cramped, but workable.
We ate at Bar Italia during NY Restaurant Week. The prix fixe menu had fabulous choices. I had thinly sliced salmon (carpaccio) as appetizer and veal as entree. The salmon was delicious and the veal tender and flavourful. Paired the entree with a glass of montepulciano. It was smooth with complex mocha tones. This is my wife's favourite restaurant.
I am a big fan of this restaurant as I've been there for many times, the food is really good, the service depends sometimes is really good sometimes can be not good at all. Another issue in my view is the reservations, most of the times the table is not available at the time you book, you have to wait sometimes 30-45 minutes, but again the food is outstanding.
