The food is good but not great. The tables are so close together you feel like your part of the conversation at the next table. The noise level is intense, you have to shout to be heard across your table. It was a very exhausting dining experience. The service was indifferent. The place was packed so that must be what everyone likes.
It was alright, but our server never apologized for serving me the wrong drink. My chicken was soooo dry, could hardly eat it!
Always reliable in terms of service, food and atmosphere. We got a special benefit as it was Veterans' Day and not so crowded and correspondingly noisy.
Very white decor. Seemed bright and airy. Impeccable service. But the portions were small. It is highway robbery to charge $30 for a meatless pasta dish. Maybe that’s the Upper East Side and the cost of real estate? Even so the tagliatelle was perfectly cooked.
Highly recommend this restaurant, it’s a notch above the other restaurants in the area.
Very nice place, a bit expensive and the size of the dishes was very small. Good food and experience overall
Excellent ambiance, we had risotto with white truffle , roasted vegetables, excellent prunotto wine, service is really good, bathrooms are same level, very good price
Awesome spot and great service
We had 7 PM reservation and they kept us waiting 25 minutes before we got the table plus they claimed that this was 7:30 reservation and when I showed they on my phone that it was 7 PM they simply shrugged the shoulders and didn't even apologize.
I had a wonderful lunch there with a friend. It is rather expensive, but the food was delicious.
Fun place, with excellent food and service. Wonderful for a Sunday brunch or the like.
We have been dining at Bar Italia for many years. The food and service is excellent, but the pricing is very aggressive. When we were there on Sunday lunch at 1:30pm, the restaurant was not full, which was a surprise as it is always full.
We will continue to dine with you.
Food and service was great! Just a bit pricey but it is on Madison Ave. We would definitely visit again.
I visit Manhattan at least once a year and make Bar Italia a must for dinner.
The service and food are awesome every time. After a great meal make sure to try the desserts including the homemade gelato!
To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I had friends in from out of town who asked for an Italian upper East side restaurant and since I had heard so many good things about Bar Italia I booked it.
The first problem came when we had a choice of a tiny table for 3 and we were 4, or outside, even though we had a reservation and were on time. In the end we chose outside, as it was so loud and the table was so small it would not have worked. It was lovely outside and roomy. The waiter was friendly and attentive. The problem was not with him. The food runners and the very well dressed man with the suit and tie who brought the bread (my husband had to ask several times before he brought it) seemed to not know what they were doing. The food did not come out at the same time. Our main courses came out one at a time and then the man in the suit and tie took our desert order and while my husband and I received ours, the other couple did not. Finally we had to ask again and while it was only sorbetto it took forever to arrive.
Perhaps the biggest disappointment of the evening was the food. It simply was tasteless, literally no taste. The gnocchi with the arugula was the only dish (Thank God two of us ordered that) that was actually good. Same problem with the desert, except the tartufo and the sorbetto (I mean really sorbet or ice cream you really can't ruin)...the panna cotta simply had no taste.
I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone and sorry to say I will not be back.
Food was ok, nothing spectacular, was pricey for what we got as far as quality tasting food.
We love this restaurant always great food and wonderful service!
the tables are spaced too close. it gets your neighbors almost your unwanted friends...
Lovely experience. All the staff was gracious. Food was excellent.
Always fabulous, wonderful clean food and exquisite service. Will be going again as often as I can. Thank you everyone.
Our family loves Bar Italia! The service is always excellent, even if you don’t like something, they will
always try to please you! One of our favorite places to go in the city!
This is a cool place, food and service is very good. Pasta cacio e pepe was excellent. They gave us a bruschetta as a compliment really good.
Food was way too salty, and it took forever to get our meal. Staff was nice but were not very attentive. We had to ask 2 or 3 times for things we needed, like olive oil and vinegar. I’ve been coming here for years and today was a big disappointment.
Lovely cocktails and lots of menu options for different tastes. Among my favorite NYC restaurants.
Excellent attention level, quality of food and prices.
This is one of my favorite places to go in New York. It is friendly. The food is good. It is a great location.
They have a really good gluten free menu, if this is a consideration.
Amazing dinner. So great!
Phenomenal service. Food was very nice and ambiance was typical of UES Madison. But service was so nice that I’d come back weekly.
Branzino carpaccio to die for!!!
A gem for food and service.
They chef is accommodating to all requests.
I always love bar italia, stacey and everyone was excellent
Our first time , definitely not our last.
From the moment you arrive every body makes you feel that they’re happy to see you . The food is wonderful, and the team is very professional.
The decor is up to date and very relaxing.
A wonderful restaurant.
Must make a reservation.
Bar Italia is “our place” in Manhattan. We stay nearby and will often have dinner on our first evening, before theater performances that evening or the next day. Today we had an outstanding burrata special. Maggie had the pesto risotto special and I enjoyed one of the best veal piccata dishes I’ve had. Our regular waiter Antonio recommended a fabulous Amarone. And best of all, we had nearly two hours of unhurried pleasure at our table. It would be easy to imagine we were in a trattoria in Italy.
Bar Italia has a very good service and ambiance. Food is very good.
Tasteless food- do not recommend.
I always enjoy going to Bar Italia both because the menu is varied and delicious with many appealing choices but also because the service is always most pleasant and attentive. I was entertaining a guest
at my last visit and delighted with all aspects of our experience.
I absolutely hate raving about this delightful charm of a restaurant with delicious food and attentive charming servers. If the secret gets out then, well it will become so popular and for now its loveliness is a delicious secret.
Lost all of its value. I was a regular customer for its great value. Food was good (not excellent) but prices were reasonable and the ambiance an location outstanding. It was the young brother of Nello (the chic and very expensive restaurant at one block away). To my surprise Bar Italia decreased the quality of the food and is now so expensive you may better go to Marea (best Italian in NY). The pasta of the day (tagliatelle al fungi) had no flavor (other than olive oil) and the veal chop just fine.
Hands down one of our favorite Italian restaraunts! If we are in the city, we will not miss an opportunity to dine at Bat Italia.
