About Bar Gitano
Bar Gitano, a Spanish Tasca located in the Condado beach district in the heart of San Juan, is the latest project from Francisco De Juan of Out of this World Restaurants.
With its ample bar, al fresco Terrace and magnificent dining room, Francisco created a space that seems plucked out of a traditional Spanish city. Its rustic décor of brick, wood and artwork depicting castanets and bullfighters lends a truth of Spanish culture.
The menu consists of 21 authentic & original Spanish tapas, an assortment of Spanish cheeses & cold cuts, Cocas, which are small pizzetas, all accented by a variety of Paellas.

Bar Gitano Ratings and Reviews
We came here for a birthday dinner on Sunday evening because the reviews mentioned a Flamenco show on Sunday nights. Made a reservation and requested a good view...our table was right in the front! Service was good, the food was good although not too many options for my friends' taste. I, however, had the paella which I loved. Flamenco show was breathtaking. I got emotional LOL and now I want to learn the art.
Bar Gitano was great. Food was amazing with lots of various Spanish Tapas to try. We had the shrimp gambas, one of the flat breads with mushrooms, a tomato flat bread and one other. All were great. Don't miss the paella. We had the seafood paella and it was awesome. If you can go on a Thursday or Sunday as they have A Flamenco dancer who was amazing. The service is the only negative. Constantly forgetting items we ordered and bringing wrong drinks. She also wasn't very well versed on the menu when we had questions.
Otherwise I highly recommend.
Went in celebrating our 20tb wedding anniversary. I love Tapas restaurants and enjoy when the restaurants get it right, and Bar Gitano does! Had a total of 7 tapas and my son had the sliders the only thing off sere the fries they make them in house and they were soggy a big pet peeve of mine if you are going to make them in house follow the 2 step rule , par fry, cool and then crisp in hot oil. Can't wait to go again !
From the moment we walked into Bar Ginto we knew we were going to enjoy the experience. Wonderful warm ambience plus a friendly staff greeted us. Once we started on the meal, the deal was sealed. Very good tapas (garlic shrimp, dates in bacon, meatballs in roasted tomatoes) cold cold beer & wonderful churros. And the clincher was the flamenco dancer!! Well done Bar Ginto
A number of locals recommended Bar Gitano to my boyfriend and me, so we were excited to check it out while staying at a hotel nearby. The tapas themselves were divine (meatballs especially), and the wine choices were excellent. It was a great spot for a romantic, dimly lit tapas dinner. There was a flamenco show going on while we were dining, which was fun to watch for a few minutes, but made it impossible to hear one another across the table. Maybe next time I'd choose to sit on the patio if I want to actually be able to speak over the music. Still, a great date spot!
The Bar Gitano staff outdid themselves by turning a last-minute Thanksgiving for two into a family celebration of ten with flamenco live music and dancing too! The tapas are fabulous -- tasty calamari and great chorizo al vino, sliders, washed down with freshly made sangría (white or red). We are regulars and will be back soon!
Salted peppers were exquisite. Bacon wrapped cheese filled dates were delicious. The fish tacos were filling, but just ok. The salted caramel pudding with biscotti was to die for. The churros with chocolate dipping sauce were great but the pudding knocked them out of the water. The service was a bit slow. The server let my glass go dry and we sat waiting for the dessert menu and also the check. It was a very slow night, so the slow service was puzzling. My friend had a red wine that she was surprised was chilled. She liked it.
Good tapas, although not well timed. Everything came out at once and it was difficult to eat all the hot food first before turning our attention to the cool plates. Nice bar selection and good inexpensive alternative to the overpriced resort restaurants in the area.
I was visiting San Juan on business and have been to Bar Gitano many times previously. I first went close to 4 years ago when my friend who is a local suggested the restaurant. It was amazing. I returned again a year and a half ago and also a great response.
This time, I have no clue what happened. The food was poorly executed with no real taste and these were dishes I have had before. The bartender briefly asked me if there was anything I wanted to drink and when I started to explain how I am open to a good rum cocktail but wasn't sure his response was "No problem when you are ready let me know". He then proceeded to the corner of the bar pulled out his phone and began to texts etc. That was the end of our conversation and service.
I'm extremely disappointed to see this place go down. There obviously is either a new owner or an owner who does not care. It's also very obvious they have a new chef because the food doesn't compare to what it use to be. My suggestions save your money no need to go.
Mother's Day Brunch with the family was absolutely amazing! Service was great (fun, efficient, and exact). Bottomless Brunch was a great offer at a perfect price and the food was very tasty at a perfect portion. The restauraunt was completely full of large parties yet they managed to provide a personal and efficient service.
We went twiced . First we had the cerviche and the fish paella , we had Luis as our waiter who so pleasant and helpful . The wines by glass are very good . We returned to try the tapas and again wasn't disappointed. Suggest sausage , shrimp, try bread pudding for dessert. Missed out on their entertainment on Sunday and Thursday which I heard is very good .
