About
We finished eating and waited about an hour and still didn’t get our main course. We asked the bartender/server and he said it’s on its way. When we asked again later he said he didn’t know about it. Another 10 minutes pass I ask the server that took our order and he just shrugged his shoulders just signaling to us he didn’t get that... The server and server/bartender were both nice but the service was off.
Very comfortable and good food !
Conveniently located on La Guardia Place.
Good for a snack,
a meal or hanging out at the bar.
Illegally added tip to the receipt.
Table wasn’t ready for large group.
We love Bar Freud for so many reasons! We always wonder why there's not a line out the door because it's really good! On the other hand, glad it's quiet and accessible. We just miss the outrageously great bread that they had when it originally opened as Freud.
Freud is always reliable for great food, very friendly service and an enjoyable dinner or brunch any day of the week.
Great food wonderful staff
We really enjoyed our meal. The food was great, the pace was relaxed, the smoked drinks felt special. I would go back again.
Great friendly service and wonderful Austrian and German beers?
A very pleasant dining experience! The food was quite good, and it was easy to enjoy conversation over the soft jazzy holiday tunes!
When we entered the restaurant, it looked very nice. Great music and lighting. We placed an order for a small appetizer. The waiter never came back to take our dinner order. After about 20 min with no food or service, we decided to leave. they have the nerve to charge us for the coffee. I was very disappointed and would never recommend this place.
This is a great find! They have super imaginative drinks including ones they actually smoke. Limited menu but went with several people and everything we ordered was delicious! I highly recommend the place.
Really nice place! Unpretentious, not too loud, super friendly staff.
Perfect for table for 2. A quite afternoon brunch with hand-crafted cocktails. Enjoy the Vienna view and the color of the ‘Freud’s’ room.
I've been to Bar Freud twice this month. I returned so quickly because the food and ambiance were so great. Both times my dining partners and I shared everything, so I've tried about 3/4 of the menu and absolutely everything is consistently delicious. The ambiance is very conducive for talking which makes sense considering the name of the place. The lighting is very nice - indirect and soft. I look forward to going back!
This place is delightful. Atmosphere is sophisticated and cozy at the same time. Appetizers, cocktails are simply great. It’s a great place for drinks, nibbles and a chat.
The food wasn’t very good and it was really cold in the restaurant. The service was okay, but not helpful or accommodating.
I ordered the heirloom tomato salad and it was just a plate half full of cubed tomatoes. The tomatoes were fresh and good, but not a salad.
The prices are too high for what you get.
Had been in a while and the quality of the food was disappointing. The Spaetzle was very salty and the schnitzel which we had had before was not very good.
I have never written a yelp review for a restaurant, but this restaurant inspired me with their horrible service.
First red flag: had a last minute reservation on a Saturday night for 6 people.
Second red flag: no one in the restaurant, in one of the best neighborhoods in New York on a Saturday night.
We tried to give it a chance but so many things turned me off. We asked the waiter for extra bread, he had to ok it with the chef. We asked if we could order another side salad and the waiter said the kitchen was too busy to make the salad for us. Meanwhile the restaurant was empty.
Don't waste your time. Book in advance for another restaurant. Event McDonalds would suffice.
Asa neighborhood restaurant, I wish it had more dinner selections. What was listed on the online menu differed From what was offered. On the other hand, my husband’s burgers d my bran I o were good soo have mixed feelings as to whether we would return. It seems to be more of a bar than a restaurant..
Overall Freud is an excellent experience. The food is good, the decor is good, the friendly service
is very relaxing. The location is handy for people in the village, East or West, and if going to a movie
for example. I understand the bar scene is happening if later in the evening, or even late day. I went to sit down with friends and have na nice meal, and it was perfect !
Delicious restaurant with very good cocktails too. A bit on the pricier side though....
Great place!! Highly recommended! We ate there during NYC restaurant week and it was delicious! Get the veal schnitzel!! Must must!!
horrible service. I went Monday night with two friends and order around 6 different dishes and the waiter gave us a horrible attitude, looks, and we waited around 30 minutes for 3 extra plates. The food was OK
Oysters to small. Definitely not cost 3 dollars. Lauch horrible...
Dinner wasc fabulous, loved the decor, staff was very friendly.
It was our first time eating Austrian food and we loved it! The drinks started us off just right! The exotic flavor of the chicken livers, the crispy veal schnitzel, the creamy spatzle, and the heavenly and crafty apple strudel! It was all fabulous, including the service and ambiance. We felt like we were in the Hills of Salzburg!
Very quiet there on a Tuesday evening for an early dinner. Food tastes really good. They put some thought into the menu to avoid staying too close to "classic" dishes. Portions are fine, maybe a bit on the smallish side.
Hope this place gets more business - it deserves it.
What a wonderful meal we enjoyed at Bar Freud! The food was delicious, the service attentive and friendly and even the music was delightful. The Austrian dishes were fantastic but what I didn't anticipate was the best Tiramisu I had ever eaten. We will return.
Food selection very limited
outstanding MIchelin rated food, with a lovely outside seating arrangement at terrific prices. What more could you ask for?
I've been to Freud a few times now and wanted to take my dad for the Schnitzel. The food is tasty, although the portions (especially for the sides on the schnitzel) are very small - I don't have a huge appetite but it was small even for me.
The service was inattentive and apathetic. There really was not a very good excuse given that the place was half empty. I had to ask the bartender for the check because the server didn't come and refused to make eye contact. With all the good restaurants in this area, I don't expect to be going back here any time soon.
This was a disappointment given all the positive reviews. Not much atmos and staff very new, unsure of what they are doing. Drinks took a long time. Wouldn't be back.
Bar Freud was a happy experience, nice people in a cozy little space, a few outdoor tables, and old-school, serious cocktails. And labcoats! Freud would have approved.
Great food, great service and simply lovely people. Try the Brussels sprouts. I basically inhaled them....
Very pleasant atmosphere. Super cheerful waitstaff. They didn't have the item I was hoping for, but I was able to find another tasty dish. Fun spot.
Always a pleasure to done here. They are very welcoming; wonderful staff and very good food.
Go and enjoy.
We were able to sit on the sidewalk tables with some great weather!!
ONE PROBLEM RUINED IT FOR US
We were really loving this place for its ambiance, unique small menu choices and an inventive wine list. We were guided through the wines (too pricey, but the one recommended was actually one of the cheaper ones. The guy who helped us was very friendly and charming. We ordered a shared starter and main course and wine.
So, the problem? Wine came in a flash. But, the food took FOREVER to come. We waited a half hour for the starter salad. Our waiter brought some deviled eggs over, obviously aware of a problem, and he then said "now we're back on course."
Except we weren't! Another 30 minutes went by and no entree. The friendly gentleman who was accomodating & cool had disappeared; I had to confront someone else who finally brought the entree out. No apology or at least an explanation. What burns most is that those seated after us were served before us. Evening ruined.
Excellent friendly services, delicious food, reasonable prices
Excellent experience - start to finish. The Market Gin & Tonic was incredible. The aroma of the herbs added so much. Staff was truly on point.
