Bar Ferdinand was the perfect date night. The ambience was exactly what we wanted. No distractions with TVs just dim lighting and great music. The service was fantastic as well! Great recommendations for food and very knowledgeable when it came to their wine selection. Already recommended it to my friends.
Keep up the great work!
Ridiculously expensive, poor tasting wine in a tiny glass. Absolute waste of time. My date and I left after one glass of wine.
My fiancé and I went for dinner and had a lovely time. There is great lighting and we sat just outside the kitchen. This is not somewhere to go if you are in a rush as they bring your plates out one at a time when they are ready.
Only go here if you have at least 2 hours for the experience. Also, the service charge is 20%. Usually if it is mandatory, it is only 10 to 15. . . .Just raise your prices.
The mood wasn’t as expected. The bartender/server wasn’t warm at all, so it didn’t match the vibe of the space. The string lights were oddly too bright which was awkward for a date, and it was empty which made the conversation almost too intimate. Food and service subpar.
This was our first visit here and we really enjoyed the food, spirits, and ambiance. We’ll definitely return and recommend the venue to others!
Great to see this fine place and it’s owners, especially with the market and flowers going on outside.
We got the “owner treatment” from our male server identified as “bartender” on the check — when we asked whether dish substitutions could be made (side of rice, etc) the server just said “no” — extremely curt response as if daring us to complain and they never asked if we had been there before or knew about the included gratuity before the check arrived. We were convinced that only someone who couldn’t be fired would act with such low regard for our comfort by the end of the meal. The server acted as if we should know everything about the food and experience without ever asking and made no attempt to refill our water or make us comfortable. When a better server started to give us food and water, the bad server shooed them away — I think our server was actively trying to make sure that we wouldn’t come back by being very cold. We weren’t rude, just unsure about what we should expect. I could understand going here if I was alone and the food was better because good food is worth that mistreatment, but their food was actually just average — very pretty but lacking flavor. Maybe that was because I got the chicken dumplings though.
We were impressed with Bar Ferdinand.
The venue is a little hard to find, but it’s worth the effort. The layout and decor are inviting and exciting - definitely a hip spot.
We had an outstanding, creative meal. Our burrata tomato mushroom appetizer was perfectly seasoned with a great cook on quality chanterelles; the herb dressing was a touch too watery to get enough of the flavor onto the components, but what we did get was excellent. The beet and goat cheese torte was rich, earthy, and packed with flavor on a perfectly cooked, flaky pastry dough; I only wished for something peppery or sour to cut the earthy beets and naturally funky goat cheese. The mushroom and soft-boiled egg entree was genius, as was the cold, medium rare lamb over aioli. Two of the most creative and successful entrees we’ve had lately.
As a wine bar my wife reported that they had an excellent selection of “Rose of the Day.” Picky picky, but I order sparkling water with lime on every date and the venue didn’t have any limes (really?).
While service was a little slow, our server was friendly.
This is a venue geared toward a younger, more adventurous crowd versus a business lunch or special occasion, and it won’t be in our “Hall of Fame” (venues we’ll visit more than once every couple of years), but I highly recommend giving Bar Ferdinand a shot and we will be keeping track of the chef - he’s a rising star.
The little fishes are fantastic. The burger was also great.
Only thing we wee missing was a martini.
You prepay for service that you don’t get. I had to get up out of my chair three times to get someone’s attention for service (another drink, the bill, etc). Glasses of wine as high as $18-$20 a glass. Bill for two who split a pizza and one app was almost $100. No way is it worth it—too many places to eat with better service and less expensive.
I loved the ambiance. Bar Ferdinand is tucked away from the street in an alcove of other shops, bars and restaurants but I found the price for the food a bit much for the portion size. It came off as trying to be at a level it's not. My friend and I ordered a mushroom dish and we got 4-5 mushrooms over an egg that left us hungry for more so we left and went down the street for dinner elsewhere. I think it would be fun for happy hour if you're aware that it's only beer and wine and don't mind eating appetizers for dinner.
Only complaint is when they were playing loud mariachi music but our server switched it to jazz thank god!
I absolutely love this place. I came to this restaurant first to, obviously, drink wine. But this place is a fantastic foodie place with delicious delicious food. I came here with a group of four and we ate a myriad of dishes, including two desserts! Everything is super inventive while also staying grounded and unpretentious, and it's a great place to convert a burgeoning foodie into a true foodie. I look forward to coming back to this place over and over again!
From the hand picked flowers and hand carved bread boards and to the gorgeous metal work - no detail is forgotten. This little oasis was the perfect dinner for a very hungry and tired family of three, who had spent the day in traffic for medical appointments and needed a meal to remember and wash the day off. We had the most gracious server who saw that our daughter needed to eat fast and get hydrated. The wine list reminded me of Paris, our server chose the perfect for rosé for the mom. The clams and pizza were devoured and the bread was soaked in broth that cannot be replicated at home. Sea beans and scapes with lamb will bring us back here next week. Merci.
Overall, I had a nice time eating and drinking here. The bartender was very knowledgeable about wine, which is important to me. The menu was limited but the food was pretty good quality.
Great small place with hard-to-find and unusual wines paired with inventive food. The friendly staff are knowledgeable and if you find something you like, you can buy a bottle to take home from the bottle shop!
We were in from out of town and had only two nights in Seattle. This place was recommend as part of experiencing Capitol Hill. The ambience and the wait staff were both great – but sadly that’s where it ends. First the menu is very limited. We were hoping to have a few small plates and there’s really not much to choose from. We decided to start by sharing a cheese and jam plate which was certainly nice but nothing exceptional. My friend had their burger which was fine, but again nothing notable. I ordered the chicken which came out virtually raw – “need a steak knife to cut through the muscle tissue” raw. I’ve never had that experience before in a restaurant! We just sent it back and called it a night and went a few doors down for a quick bite. The other issue is we were warned that it’s really up to the chef as to when your food is arriving. Our food was not synchronized at all. So we had the cheese plate, then the hamburger came out and when that was completely done and gone my chicken arrived raw. At that point we couldn’t even consider sending it back to be cooked because we had already wasted way too much time and endured the awkwardness of having one person eating while the other person isn’t.This place has great potential so I hope they change up their menu a bit to make it more interesting and fun. Then they should recruit some chefs who are actually interested in being in the restaurant business, customer service and food safety…
Loved it!! We did the Chef tasting and each course was excellent. I liked the vibe and ambiance. Would definitely return
Great service. Delicious food.
Great food. Like the concept and flavors , service was ok
Went with a friend to check this place out, was referred to BarFerd by a friend. Had a lovely time! Staff was attentive, food was very good. Chef menu wasn't available for dinner, so ordered off the bar menu. Ordered Grilled Clay pot and the pizza, both were tasty and there wasn't anything left on the plate. Small menu, not great for those on Whole30/Paleo, but great for a cheat-night. Wine selection was good, asked for a recommendation and got something wonderful.
