Bar Crudo - Divisadero St Ratings and Reviews
Super disappointed with the Branzino, which was flavorless, lots of bones, and yet most expensive entree on the menu. Props for fresh, delicious oysters, and great service. Stick to Happy Hour, which I have yet to try, but sounds like that's what most people come here for.
Bar Crudo is a San Francisco staple that consistently serves amazing seafood, raw or prepared, and has a fantastic array of beers and ales as well as a well curated wine list for every price range. But caveat emptor: no tea or coffee after dinner. Is that to turn over the tables faster? But no matter, there's coffee on the block.
A mixed bag. Smiling and efficient service. Tainted by the odor of commercial dishwasher soap wafting through the space. Some stellar cuisine -- especially the lobster/chicories/beet salad and the seafood/bacon chowder. Some fails -- prawns that had gone mushy and weren't cold enough, mignonette that tasted like bottled Italian dressing. But the main reason I won't return is the noise. Shouting over 80s music and other people shouting just isn't conducive to happy dining and certainly does not make for a special occasion. Especially at these prices. I really wish it were otherwise!
Bar Crudo was excellent. Great beer selection, exceptionally prepared crudo, and the seafood chowder is luxurious and decadent. I may have gotten lucky and sat next to three guys who work in local resturants and know the chef and staff, but I had a great time and friendly personal service at the bar. Highly recommend reservations, it is jam packed.
It was the last sitting on New Year’s Eve and none of our food came out on time nor did the fixed price menu provide enough food to even remotely satisfy my appetite. The uni went down in two bites with a gelato spoon, the third course came at least 20 min after the second course, and the chocolate cake was dry and the cheesecake was grainy. I love bar crudo and enjoy dining there, however, my New Year’s Eve experience was horrendous.
The food was delicious and we loved the chowder, Crudo and shellfish platter. It was a little frustrating to see the table of 3 sit down about 10 minutes after us get their food before us. It was busy, but not crazy so not sure what was going on. Same server who kept thanking us for our patience.
The food and service were exceptional. However, the person who called to check on the reservation (a male) was quite obnoxious and told me my name did not appear anywhere on the date. I said I had a printed confirmation and that he was wrong. Then he finally looked and said "oh yes". No apology. Really put me and my party of friends off. If the food were not so good, I would never return.
This is the most perfect and creative seafood restaurant I have seen until now. The food was all great and satisfied me in all aspects. And the food serving was fast and was no error. Although it was quite crowded, but not that noisy enough to have a business meeting.
Very spicy food, went for apps together before dinner elsewhere and when the waitress found out we wouldn’t be ordering more than wine and apps she became rude and cold. We spent almost $100 on wine and shared plates, but her attitude was disgruntled none the less. Too bad, customer service should be first.
Service was great, wine list small but interesting (had the 2011 Verdicchio) and well thought, prices on food and wine are great. All the Crudo preparations were outstanding, the Chowder was really good, the crab (under hot plates) was the least favorite of the table, nothing about it was bad, but it's a dish that comes in a pool of sauce but the crab is still in the shell, once you get the hard to get and little meat out of the shell it's so tiny that you can't really dip it in the sauce, maybe another vessel to get the crab into the mouth already out of the shell perhaps, like pasta, bread, rice, potato etc. would be my suggestion. I don't mind cleaning shells and bones out of the fish, but that was really hard to eat. The Branzino was good, although to me it felt as a bit overthought, the sauce underneath was a bit overwhelming for such a delicate flesh fish.
Of course I'm splitting hair, I'm no food critic and the kitchen staff is obviously very talented so good job to all of you. I will be back!
