Bar Cento Ratings and Reviews
Reservation still had a cold 20 min wait. Food 45 min wait. Both burgers rare and asked for Well done. 8 very small ravioli $21 came with a side of burnt leaves of Brussels sprouts. Told there was "kitchen" problems. Service was non existent. Noisy next - seated us next to a pool table. Thought we could have a nice dinner. Wrong. This place is for bar food and drinks.
We had a reservation for 5 at 7:00. I was disappointed that not only was our table not ready but they didn't know when they would be able to seat us. When I said, "but we have a reservation", the hostess said "I know, other people do too."
We found a table in the bar and simply claimed it. Another hostess came over and said she didn't know when our table would be ready but if we were will to add a chair to the end we could have that table.
The food took a long time to come out but it was a busy Saturday night so that's understandable. The french fries came out ice cold (they were likely ready 15-20 min before delivered) and the burger I ordered Med Well came out completely red in the middle. I've been here a number of times and always enjoyed it but I will never come back on a weekend night. I don't think they're kitchen is prepared to handle busy nights.
This was my second trip to Bar Cento and so disappointing after a great first trip. We were a party of 8 and service overall was very poor. Drinks orders were very slow to be taken and to be served. Biggest issue was our food. Dinners came out two at a time and it took 10-15 minutes for everyone in the group to receive their entree. Everyone's food tasted good however several people commented that their food was luke warm, even the last two meals served. I love the ambience, taste of the food, and alcohol selection at Bar Cento but would greatly hesitate to take a group there again.
Food was very good. Server was inattentive, though. Wine glass was dirty (had lipstick on it). Drinks weren't refreshed.
Made reservations and it seemed as though they weren't prepared for us. We were sat by the door--zero ambiance. Thought it would be much more intimate.
We went here for an anniversary dinner after a show. Great choice: we enjoyed the draft beer selection. My wife got the salmon, I got the bricked chicken. Wholesome and surprising flavors. The plank plates are cute, but I had to chase some loose risotto because of no edge to the platter. Altogether a great time.
Our drinks and appetizer arrived promptly, which we were pleased with! However, our entrees (burger and pizza) took 1.5 hours after ordering to arrive at our table. Our waitress repeatedly mentioned that there were many tickets ahead of us, although the restaurant itself did not seem extremely crowded for a Saturday night. Overall, our food came out over done after waiting for so long. The restaurant has high reviews but was not what we expected for the prices.
We ordered four pizzas, the pomme frites, and the rainbow trout, along with drinks. Everything was great except the fish. My boyfriend's mother couldn't eat it, she thought it was that bad. However, we always go for the pizza and happy hour and have never had anything less than great. I guess that one dish just wasn't par for the course.
We were disappointed when we were charged $17.00 for a manhatten cocktail. Too expensive for a corner dive bar where every cushion on every bar stool is torn. We'll rethink going there next time. Too much competition that are newer and nicer and have water front view that don't charge that much for cocktails.
We celebrated my mother's 84th birthday at Bar Cento last Saturday evening. The ambience and the décor was top notch. The wait service was friendly and accommodating. This set our expectations high for the food. Having looked over the menu prior to the visit, I chose the clam pasta dish. The pasta noodles were done well, but the lemon in the dish was over powering. I could not even taste the delicate clams. But, at least I had some. My brother who ordered the same dish, had to search for his. I tasted my mother's ravioli which was, honestly, crunchy. I understand about al dente, but this was under cooked. My husband had the lamb pappardelle which was cold upon delivery and taken back for a warmer version. The sauce was a lackluster tomato based one that disguised the flavor of the lamb. On the other hand, the small side salads were great- complete with heirloom tomatoes. I would recommend having a drink here because of the great décor, or choosing other dishes which might be better.
We very much liked this place; it's a nice space, has good casual food, and an outstanding beer selection thanks to it being adjacent to and related to Bier Markt. At the end of the day, the only question that matters is "would you go back?", and we definitely will.
Great beer is a given as they offer a number of their proprietary beers along with lots of other options. We had the French fries appetizer with several dipping sauces and it was delicious. Pizza was done perfectly with apple slices great cheese and pancetta. Had a side dish of kale to pretend we were eating healthy and it too was very tasty. In all a solid value and meal served very well.
My husband and I discovered Bar Cento a few years ago and it has now become our "go to" restaurant when going to a ballgame or a show downtown. The beer menu is phenomonal, the pizza is the best in the city, and the menu has many offerings without being overwhelming. The service is always friendly and amazingly efficient!
This place was fantastic. All the food was fresh and homemade and the service was fantastic. Our server was so knowledgable and had great recommendations. The beer list was extensive and had great choices.
Most of our table got the pizza's and all of them were delicious, you can tell it was all homemade. I got the grilled romanesco as a side and it was the best vegetable dish I've ever had. I cannot wait to go back and try the pasta.
The food here is great, and service was excellent. However, we sat on the patio, and the restaurant allows its staff to smoke right next to the patio, which made the meal hard to get through. It wasn't just one person for a few minutes. It was a constant stream of employees taking smoke breaks right next to our table. I couldn't even eat my food because of the smell - I boxed it to go. If you're going to have outdoor seating, which is great, it really isn't appropriate to allow employees to use the same area to smoke.
I love Bar Cento but was really disappointed this time. Our server was just awful, disappearing for long periods of time, when we did ask for anything it would take him a very long time to bring it, or he would completely forget. Then, our salads came out with our entrées so we had so much food on the table at one time. My mussels were very fishy tasting and seemed like they had been sitting for some time, they were cold. Overall for the money we spent I was truly disappointed.
A little disappointing. Service was not very good even though the restaurant was not busy. Pomme frites were very good and extra sauce came when we asked for it. Pizzas were yummy but not hot, just warm! But the worst thing was the creme brûlée that they apparently made with salt on top, not sugar! They did take it off our bill and brought us a fresh (and correctly made) dessert but it couldn't wipe out the bad taste in our mouths...
