Highly recommended!
I had the wild boar bourguignon
Talk about fork tender
The wait staff was super friendly and very helpful in making recommendations for what you have.
Will be going back for sure!
Bar Brigade stole from me! I requested a Gift Certificate by email and completed the transaction over the phone with John David (JD) Fratzke. My credit card was charged the same day, but it's been over a month and I have not received the gift certificate, nor will anyone respond to my emails or phone calls. Next stop is the MN Attorney General's office.
The restaurant was not as crowded as we expected and the noise level was not too bad on a Thursday evening. I had the hangar steak and it was tender and tasty. I was not asked how I wanted it cooked, so it came medium rare - a little too bloody on the end for me. My friends ordered the chicken and felt it could have been baked a little longer as it was difficult getting all the meat off the bones. The sides were wonderful this evening... the wild mushrooms and brussels sprouts and beet salad were all excellent. We felt the prices were high and the fact that 3 tiny French rolls were $ 4. was rather ridiculous. Not sure if we would like to come back on a weekend after reading the noise level reviews.
We love this restaurant on quieter nights, but probably wouldn't visit again on a Saturday night only because of the noise level.
Pleasantly surprised
Once we actually found the restaurant, we really enjoyed ourselves! It is very difficult to locate it because of the huge Papst Blue Ribbon beer sign that sits above instead of something that tells you it’s actually Bar Brigade. We were there on Halloween, so there weren’t very many people. The place is small, and I assume if it gets full there is probably a lot of noise to contend with. But I can’t say for sure because we were there on a very slow night. (Thank goodness!)
Our first meal at Bar Brigade but it won’t be our last. Good cocktails, app and entree. Good prices and stellar service. Solid A!
We stumbled on this little gem and so glad we did! The overall feeling is of warmth and welcome. Our server could not have been nicer and the food was delish.
Service was knowledgeable and relaxed, and our meal was paced perfectly! Everything we ordered was amazing - from the beautiful warm rolls through trying all three desserts. Bonus points for the asparagus with romesco sauce, because we all wanted to lick that plate clean. Excellent, fun cocktails and a lovely, focused wine list. Just go already!!
We live in walking distance of Bar Brigade and really enjoy our dining experience there. We have been there several times and always received outstanding service and food.
We so love having you in the neighborhood.
Hard to find--look for the Pabst Blue Ribbon sign with the word Brigade beneath it. Unpretentious but excellent food good wine and beer list, really friendly but not overbearing service. If you want someplace "fancy" this isn't it. If you want a hidden neighborhood gem that is slightly pricey but worth that value, stop in.
We loved our meal. Server was attentive but let us enjoy our meal. Cocktail list was creative. The mussels and their sauce were both delicious - we were offered extra bread to be able to eat more of the sauce. We will definitely be back.
The 1960's PBR sign outside throws off the scent of the top shelf restaurant experience awaiting you inside. Food, service, ambiance and price point were all right on the mark. Excellent!
If you like shouting, this is for you. The acoustics in this place is horrible for any conversation unless you can read lips. Of if you came with your phone as your partner, you'll be fine with earplugs.
The din of the noise unfortunately effected our food experience.
Please bring back lentil, broccoli, almond salad. Should be a staple. Crabcakes too small..
Perfect meal...great to share a few apps or share a meal and or dessert. Great ambiance. Cozy seating. Live plants. Loved it.
We made the reservation with the notation that the dinner was a birthday celebration. The seating at 7 p.m. was timely, but then we waited nearly 20 minutes to receive a menu. When ordering drinks, we were informed that the draft beer selection (there were only two) was unavailable because the bar was changing its seasonal offerings. The soup of the day, which was offered as a selection when the menu was finally presented. was unavailable at the time of ordering. The explanation was that, like the beer, it was being discontinued as the menu was being changed. The app (mussels) was very good. The entrees were also good. The restaurant comped our drinks for the delay, but did nothing to recognize the special occasion. It did not meet my expectations for the special event we came to celebrate. I would not recommend it for that reason.
A European style dining experience, without crossing the Atlantic!
Delightful place to have drinks or dinner with friends before a show. I'll be back!
Took my former hostess and now a St. Kate nursing graduate out for her birthday
Made ressies with OT and totally perfect!
Sally was our server and incredibly awesome!
Food, service ... everything PERFECT !
Thank you
Tables by the window lit by several candles. Very romantic. Drinks and food were so good!
Delicious food, great service. We were very happy we decided to give it a try, and we will be back.
I enjoyed this meal - all courses were very tasty. The cocktail I had was a little more herby than I would typically like, but it was still good.
Great spot. Anna was awesome! Great service and great recommendations!
Great food and lovely service made our evening feel very special!
You would never know how lively and fun this place is from the outside. Great menu and fun atmosphere!
Loved the food, as always. It was too loud to hear the people at my table though. I think there were at least 2 large groups that night and we were back in the corner. I'll sit at the bar next time so I can have a conversation. Maybe try baffles or curtains or something soft to help absorb the sound. It became a real din.
The cocktails are great; the food is wonderful and the staff is welcoming. There is usually something special on the menu. We love this place.
A very pleasant atmosphere and an outstanding chef's special entre. A bit too loud for an intimate meal but overall a very nice operation.
First time to this restaurant. Food and Service was excellent. The only drawback and why I gave it a 4 for overall is that when we entered the restaurant it smelt musty.
Excellent simple sumptuous French cuisine in a complete sleeper of a restaurant. Restaurant side is noisy and table design puts you a bit far from your across the table companion. There is a table on the bar side that seats 4 across and was great for intimate dinner and conversation between two of us.
This was our second visit to Bar Brigade. The menu selection was slimmed down a bit but still excellently prepared. This is not a restaurant where you can have an ongoing easy conversation, it's very loud and with several neighboring tables with loud shrieking inhabitants ....well LOUD. Food was good as always, service good but hurried, cocktails OK. Value good.
Great food at a good price. This cosy little restaurant has some very good special cocktails- e.g. Petit Amer.
We shared a beet salad with micro greens, chevre, and olive oil which was excellent. My wife enjoyed her trout some much I did not get to taste it. I had the scallops. Fried with an exquisite sauce and greens. The Pavlova dessert was excellent ans was the blue cheese with plums
The restaurant is a neighborhood favorite. The food is very good and the ambiance is great if you like small, crowded restaurants. The service was fine and the wine list was better than most. We enjoyed our evening.
We had wonderful service. Splitting the bill was very simple.
Super food.
Food was too salty
Everything was amazing. Our server was knowledgeable about the wine list and brought us samples to taste before we decided on a bottle. The warm rolls with garlic butter, scallops, wild boar bourginon, chocolate mousse, and montchèvre cheese plate were all phenomenal. One of the most satisfying meals I’ve had in ages. Plus, the atmosphere was perfect for conversation and celebration.
I can’t wait to go back!
Outstanding experience in this cozy neighborhood gem, simple and local ingredients beautifully transformed into fresh and incredibly flavorful dishes. Chef Tyler is talented!! I was blown away by the trout rillettes, and the flavors of the wild boar bourguignon took me back to my childhood in France. If you haven't gone yet, you're missing out!
This gem is going to be a new favorite of mine. Pros: Very cozy. Excellent service. Food perfectly prepared and seasoned. (Scallops). Inventive food, too (chicken of the woods deep fried mushroom was yummy) Cons: A little loud. Maybe some soft surfaces would help. Not sure about the wine list. Pretty small. I wasn’t a fan of the Malbec, but maybe the others were better. Next time I plan to get there early for happy hour and sit at the bar.
One of the best values for a restaurant in the Twin Cities. In my opinion, it's the best food for its price point in the area. I've never had anything bad here - from bread to mushroom sides to entrees. Service is also *always* top notch.
