What Insiders Are Saying
Daniel Boulud's "casual bistro" Bar Boulud is one of the best places to eat near Lincoln Square.
Excellent service, well-executed, beautifully presented casual French food with flair.
Great food, great ambiance! Perfect spot to have a bite and/or drinks.
Ambiance: Very nice place. It has a warmer feeling to it than it seems to in the picture. We sat at a banquette table, which was comfortable. We did not feel that we were too close to any other table. There is a bar that runs down part of the restaurant. The end of the bar closer to the door has seating on both sides, so if you sit there you could end up across from your dining partners or next to them.
Service: The service is excellent. Our waiter was polite and friendly without being obtrusive. The food delivery was excellent. Our waiter brought us our two appetizers seriatim so that my husband and I could share each one and savor it before delving into the next. Our main meals were brought out together, well after we had finished our appetizers but we didn't feel that we had to wait too long for them. Frequent change of plates and flatware--nicely done. We were there for about 2 1/4 hours without feeling that we were being rushed out, and we didn't notice that there was anyone who was waiting for our table, although I believe that they were fully booked. This might mean that they have figured out how to space their reservations accurately.
Food: The food was fabulous. We ordered the escargots and the calves head pate as our appetizers. We ordered the duck breast (an item on the regular menu) and the venison chops (a special for that evening). The venison was excellent, both tender and flavorful like a steak. The duck breast, however, was sublime. For dessert, we shared the Baked Alaska (a special for the evening), which was excellent. The drinks that we ordered from the bar were spectacular. One was the Champagne Punch and the other was the Last Word. Yum.
Value: Very good
Noise Level: Superior. The restaurant was not noticeably loud even though the restaurant was full. My husband and I had no trouble hearing each other, and it didn't even occur to us at the time that we didn't have to raise our voices to be heard.
Had Valentines Day Prix Fix. Decent courses but poor value. The star was the baked Alaska dessert - that was worthy of a place with Bar Boloud's ostensible pedigree
Good food and drinks, great location, but feels too small with tables very close to each other.
It wasn’t exceptional, but was very good!
We had another wonderful meal at Bar Boulud on Valentine's Day. I really appreciate the patience and care taken around my food allergies. I was able to have a safe, gourmet meal without worry. We will be back soon! Thank you.
We went to Bar Baloud for Valentine’s Day. Every was very good. The service felt a little stressed, perhaps because of a very full house. However, we never felt any pressure to hurry. We upgraded our three course tasting menu with Diver sole. It was outstanding. Great food at a reasonable price.
Great food and great service.
I brought my immediate family to the restaurant with the intention of impressing them, since this was their first time visiting that area of NYC. I had read about it in the Wine Spectator.
The food itself was delicious except for the beef bourguignon, which was quite dry. However, I would not recommend this restaurant because of ambience was so "off." The waiters were relatively cold, and I was legitimately shocked when I was walking up the aisle and a young waitress did not move to the side and instead walked into me. I have never experienced this anywhere, and I found it to be immensely disrespectful! Ultimately, something about the "vibe" of the restaurant was just not inviting or warm, and I definitely will not be going back to this place. Quite disappointing for the price.
For a post-concert meal, the charcuterie assortment really hit the spot! All the varieties they offer, and easy to share. We also got a selection of three vegetable hors d'oeuvre, not knowing that small portions would come with the charcuterie--it's not mentioned on the menu, and our server didn't say anything. But they were all so good, and we love vegetables, so it was fine.
Nice too that you can get 8-ounce pours of wines by the glass, some very good wines, and this way we could try more.
Impeccable service. Frenchie burger and pomme frites were delicious. Definitely an establishment that is worth revisiting.
The gourges, beets with burrata, honey glazed duck breast and hazelnut gateau were all very good as was our wine selection (a Trentino @ 65, at lower end of price range). Food prices reasonable for quality. Good overall vibe, waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. As a non-New Yorker/city person found the tables in the front very close and was only issue. For us booths would have been a better choice. Overall enjoyable and would return.
Had an amazing Galentine's Day lunch with my Soul Sister on Soul Sister Saturday! I ordered the Chicken Paillard & she ordered the Charcuterie Tasting large tasting board that had various kinds of Pate on it. There was also sourdough bread, butter, mustard, carrots, etc. They also had wonderful leather placemats! The service was very wonderful. The waitress often helped us refill our water. The ambience was very wonderful. Quiet enough to have a wonderful conversation. The music that played served as wonderful background music & not concert music where typical bars have their music on too loud & you need to shout to be heard. The restaurant has a very romantic feel to it. The restroom is also very clean. I would definitely come back & recommend this restaurant!
Not worth the money or the hype for somewhere with a Michelin star.
The service was amazing. Waiters were very attentive. I had a three course meal and I was not disappointed. Food and dessert were delicious. I will definitely go back. Highly recommended.
Always enjoy the food and service there.
I can't say enough about our dining experience. There were four of us and we sure love Restaurant Week and the opportunity to enjoy restaurants that we might not normally choose. Three of us had the fish, which was perfectly prepared and one had the mussels which we all agreed was the best choice as she gracefully shared with us. The mushroom soup was perfect!
Great food. Service a tad too "friendly" and noise way too loud
Absolutely amazing food and services! Would definitely go back in the future.
Good and service are great. Proximity to Lincoln Center is also great. But - verrry noisy and crowded.
Restaurant week risotto with cauliflower salty. Grapefruit dessert good. Overall, seating is tight and should be a better experience.
We enjoyed the food and did not feel pressured to leave while we continued our conversation
Food was very delicious.Service was very good.
Bar Boulud is unfailing. I am making converts right and left. Everyone is delighted by the food, the service, the native courtesy AND the low noise level'
Our lunch was very pleasant. The very nice surprise was how pleasant and with it the staff was, which was quite a change from a previous experience last year. It made a world of difference.
The food is consistently tasty at Bar Boulud. It is one of our neighborhood favorites, as it is always has a sophisticated yet friendly ambiance. I definitely recommend it.
2nd visit, my 1st bust was a rave, everything (except noise level) superb. This time, I’d 3 diners 1 (daily special squab with pate) was excellent, duck was fine, but cassoulet was a disaster, was a soupy mess with uncooked beans-not cassoulet. They took it off the bill but very very disappointed.
The food was really “meh”. Seems more like capitalizing on the name than anything. We had reservations to go again for dinner but we will try someplace else.
Wonderful Brunch! The brunch menu is excellent. My daughter had steak and eggs and I had the eggs benedict which were delicious. Great service, lovely restaurant! Will be back.
Expected more from their steak frites.Complimentary birthday desert made up for a barely warm steak.
Was fine- could have went elsewhere for better food for less money but the service was great. I would go back if we had another event at LC
Awesome in every way!!! Delicious, extraordinary food, outstanding service, Mary at front desk ....
Cannot wait to go back!!
Excellent food and service; very warm waitstaff. Outstanding wine list. Always a pleasure to dine at Bar Boulud!
Four of us came during restaurant week, for a 2 PM lunch. The food is so superb; there are not enough stars to describe it. Three of us ordered the Loup de Mer..this fish was succulant, and on a subtle sauce that had bits of crisp vegetables and small celementines..all on a bed of arugala. My husband had the mussels with a curry/coconut sauce. He said the mussels were the plumpest and most delicious he had ever had. We had the ice cream/sorbet/cookie combination for desert. My Sauvignon Blanc was crisp and vey well chilled, the others had Cote Du Rhone, which they said was very good. Unfortunately, the noise level was beyond belief, between the loud music and the din of voices. The design of the restaurant is very inviting, but it enhances the noise. They did honor our request for a quiet area, but we had to shout to converse.
Great food and great service . Will go back soon and recommend to friends
Love this place! Trout excellent! Looking fwd to next visit!
Restaurant week menu was generous: delicious mushroom soup, good bread, fantastic gateau marjolaine. Fish entree with arugula was not to my taste. Wines the waiter selected were wonderful.
Always truely special without the fancy formality of many NY restaurants. Love the pate, and they have an excellent brasserie menu. They prepare fish extremely well.
Steak was tough, beurnaise lacking tarragon flavor.Much better food at Nougatine cafe which we frequent. Not a special lunch!Maybe dinner is better?
We were very disappointed in the quality and taste of the food.
