We rolled into NYC from Penn Station. We were looking for something special, but not too fancy. Bar Boulud fit the bill perfectly. Great food and service. My only complaint is that the tables have a strange platform configuration that makes it hard to move your feet around. Strongly recommend especially on a warm night.

Unfortunately, we had a very bad experience at Bar Boulud. We’re big fans of D. Boulud, having enjoyed many great meals at Boulud Sud, one of our favorite places. On Saturday we had a 2:00 matinee at Lincoln Center so we went to Bar Boulud for lunch. We were seated promptly at 12:30. We told our server that we needed to leave no later than 1:40 in order to make our show. She said she’d get us fed and out in time and noted that many patrons were in a similar situation. We ordered a simple meal of one coffee, a shared flatbread, and an omelet and ham sandwich. The flatbread was a bit slow in arriving, but not too badly so. It was very good, as was the coffee. But, then, things fell apart. We repeatedly asked where our omelet and sandwich and reminded her of the 1:40 deadline to leave. She repeatedly assured us that the food would arrive momentarily. It never did. She explained that the kitchen was backed up. The place was crowed and busy, but not overly so. This was especially frustrating since tables all around us that been seated well after us were served quickly and efficiently. Meanwhile, we waited and waited. Finally, at 1:35, we told her we’d be leaving in five minutes – food or no food. That seemed to finally get her attention. At 1:40, we got up and left the table. As we did our omelet and sandwich finally arrived (and looked good, BTW). But it was simply too late. I left $21 in cash for the flatbread and coffee (no tip, needless to say). On the way out, we ran into the manager and complained about the lack of service. He was very upset, embarrassed, contrite and responsive. He offered to return our money and to make the situation right. He handled it very well, but we didn’t have time – we needed to rush to make our show. Not what we expect from a Boulud property, obviously. Michael Laracy

Bar Boloud is a lovely place for dinner before Lincoln Center, or just any old time you feel like fantastic, innovative "comfort" food and great service.

Welcoming staff & very helpful with any questions. Food, wine and service can't be beat. Come for the superb pâté, tartar and wines. Leave enjoying the whole meal without breaking the bank.

Have been to this restaurant for years. Always Liked the ambiance and the food. Unfortunately the last two times was not a good experience. Reserved a table for two on OPEN Table, requested a booth. Day before the restaurant called to confirm, which I did, and I re-confirmed that a booth was reserved. Was told yes, no problem. Upon arrival, we were denied a booth (despite 4-5 were still avail), the hostess telling that several large parties were expected. We were given a table in the back, right adjacent to the waiter Service station. Not happy with it, we choose the community table, which didn’t need reservation. An hr into our dining, I noticed that non of the 5-6 booths had more than two people, just like our party, except w one exception they were all couples, ie. One Male and One female. Upon inquiring, I was informed that those tables expected 3-4 people, but non showed. When Expressing our disappointment to the Mgr. for not getting a booth while other couples arriving after us did, I also asked if it made a difference, had I called the restaurant direct? He said yes, they can do more for customers, if called direct. Also told us that several of the booths are saved for people in the Bldg. who often frequent the restaurant. The hostess couldn’t care less about us, kept saying they NEVER confirm a booth, yet was all smiles and charm with those couples leaving the booths. It was obvious this restaurant favors their regulars, male female couples, rather that treating all customers equal. Two observations: In the past we were accommodated in a Booth, however those times I had a male companion, and called the restaurant direct. The last two times I visited w a girlfriend, no male companion, and made the Res. Via OPEN Table. The bottom line: This restaurant favors direct calls and couples over reservations made w Open Table and female customers. Not going back there.

HI- The Baked Alaska dessert was disappointing. Although tasty, it was small, and so did not provide the drama one expects from that such a dessert. And way overpriced. James Schultz

Great place--very well run. Always great, friendly service. The food is tasty, fresh. The bread is good, salads fresh. I had trout, my friends had the duck--we were pleased. The leek salad was particularly tasty. Great desserts too.
