What Insiders Are Saying
Daniel Boulud's "casual bistro" Bar Boulud is one of the best places to eat near Lincoln Square.
We had a delightful lunch with just the right level of attentiveness. And, a surprise complimentary Birthday dessert. Wines are a bit pricey
It was so noisy you couldn't hear yourself think. Food was fine. Not so special for New York but good.
Recommended if you're not a budget - especially for wines.
Beautiful night for dinner outside, looking at Lincoln Center. Our server was outstanding, explaining all the specials and quickly responding to our requests. We have been here on a number of other occasions, but had never tried the hors D’Oeuvres or house-pickled vegetables. The 4 of us shared a selection of each, and they were great. Loved that selections from the prix fixed menu could be ordered a la carte. Ended dinner with my son’s favorite dessert, the delicious Tarte Basque.
Great flavors with reasonable proportions and good presentation. High quality restaurant needs to improve customer oriented service from waiters.
The service was the best thing about this restaurant. My boyfriend and I went in with differing expectations of the food. We both liked the food, but I think I’m less familiar with French food than I’d thought I was, so I didn’t enjoy it as much as my boyfriend did. We sat outside and the restaurant was pretty, but currently (June 2019) there’s scaffolding above the restaurant which took away from our nice view of Lincoln Center. I’d say it’s a 4.5/5, overall.
Great food, amazing food. Decor is a bit too minimalist which can make the space a bit cold. Table in booth was quiet, it would have been louder at non-booth tables.
Excellent meal. It’s a great place to eat.
Beautiful day. Table outside near sidewalk.
Service very friendly.
Pate and Sausage entree both were short on flavor.
Onion soup was delicious.
Expensive for the quality of food.
Delightful surprise anniversary gift.
Nice spot for a casual dinner. Food is excellent (duck confit was so tender and flavorful), great selection of wines by the glass. Service a bit mixed but not for a lack of trying.
We were made to feel welcomed the minute we arrived at the restaurant. Our waiter was very friendly and patient while my friend and I took a while to decide what we were going to order.
The food arrived sooner than we thought, which was a good thing because we were going to see a show at Lincoln Center, and it meant that we could have a leisurely meal.
Our dinner was delicious and nicely prepared. My friend took a picture of her fish dish because the presentation was lovely.
All in all, dining at Bar Boulud was as good as the other times we’d been there. We will certainly return again!
For the first time in my years of dinning at Bar Bolud, I am not sure I would recommend it to a friend. The prices for wines by the glass seemed outrageous. $30 for an 8 0z glass (237 ml) of Chardonnay. There have to be decent chardonnays that they could offer for $15 a glass (Kendall Jackson) or $20 (Sonoma Cutrer) recovering their full cost for the bottle with a single glass (i.e., with two more glasses to pour). I was so angry, I did not look at the reds. OTOH, I had the best steak in NYC ever (dry aged beef worth every penny), the deserts were to die for, and my wife and I scarfed down the delicious spinach! Cold pea soup was also delicioius.
Food and service were great. VERY NOISY! Price is quite reasonable.
Great choice for Sunday brunch
Consistently great. Love the food and ambiance. Our favorite place to go after an evening at Lincoln Center
Delicious food cooked to perfection(had salmon asked for Med rare and sausage). Excellent attentive yet not overbearing and knowledgeable service. Sat outside on a beautiful evening so expect a bit of noise from traffic. Would recommend and will return.
Fabulous booth seating - you feel like you are the only ones in the restaurant! Food was superb! Pate grand-mere, escargot, Frenchie burger, white sausage with mushrooms were wonderful! Highly recommend!
Superb food and fantastic ambiance. One of the best spots for charcuterie in the city!
Great brunch spot!
Always delicious food. Prompt service gets me out in time for the concert.
This is a restaurant for regulars who are treated differently from occasional guests. When I reserved a table for 2 people 3 weeks ago, I asked for a booth. I was told they couldn't promise but would take note of it. When I arrived tonight, early for my reservation at 5:45, there were 6 or 7 open booths. Then the run around began -- why can't I have a booth? because they're only for parties of 3 or 4 -- but 2 booths are occupied by only 2 people, I noted (4 were occupied by only 2 people during the pre-theater dinner hour.) so clearly that's NOT the real reason!
-- Well they got here earlier? So when do I have to arrive to get a booth? It doesn't work that way
-- and on and on with the double talk as 4 booths remained opened until 6:30 and one stayed open until 7:15 when I left.
-- The real reason I couldn't have a booth? Clearly booths are kept open for regulars, just in case they show up! There are no solid rules about numbers of people in a party, many booths -- at least 4 or 5 -- had only 2 diners
-- The food was wonderful, but the prices are absurd -- really $24 for the cheapest glass of rose wine? -- and the staff clearly doesn't really care about equity or service
-- I was given a tiny banquette table which they claimed was "just like a booth" -- REALLY? Then why not give me a booth and give the banquette to someone else?
-- It was just a run around from all levels of staff. Do NOT choose this restaurant, if you want to be treated fairly and well. Maybe some people like to be snubbed and treated like second class citizens...not me.
Always excellent. Joe Stevens is very good at what he does.
Good food and service and ambiance, lovely outdoor dining experience.
Congratulations to our server. Very professional and attentive. PC
I have been coming here for years. Never a disappointment. I always try something new - but always order the French fries. !!!
The person at the front desk was very accommodating. Our waitress was excellent as well as the wine Stewart. The Berliants
Excellent in every way!
Food was good; loved dessert; service agreeable; but this restaurant has become very expensive and it was quite empty on a saturday afternoon
No notification was given that there was only brunch menu service until 3:30 PM. We wanted lunch, not brunch and the menu was quite limited for someone who doesn't eat eggs or meat.
Felt the price for a glass of wine ridiculous
Wonderful experience and amazing food! The server made our dining experience extra special for my mom by bringing out a slice of delicious cake in honor of her birthday. I’m so glad we chose Bar Boloud to celebrate the occasion.
We had lunch here before attending a dance presentation across the street at Lincoln Center. The location is prefect if you're doing anything at Lincoln Center or the area around it. The place is quite nice and clean. The wait staff was competent but a bit cold. Actually, the support staff who poured water, cleaned the table , removed plates, etc. were far more professional. The food was just OK but certainly didn't justify the price. We were fully prepared to pay more based on where the restaurant is located, but the food was pretty mediocre. My wife's burger was dry and tasteless. My house made pastrami was fairly tasty, but much too fatty. I did not expect it to be free of fat, but it was just too much and was a turn off. The breads and other ingredients were pretty good, but the overall dishes were forgettable. The next time we return to this area we will definitely seek out another restaurant for a better food experience.
Enjoyed Sunday brunch. Service was excellent, food was tasty and the warm madelines for dessert were delicious.
Love this place.
The perfect setting to start your weekend in NYC ! Delicious food and friendly service! Bar Boulud is on our favorite list!
Consistently delicious food, great service...and very loud.
Always dependable with nicely varied menu. Generous portion sizes of scallops, delicious white asparagus soup. Pricey wine by the glass.
Asparagus soup was excellent but the spring mix salad was nothing special. Brownie for dessert was delicious!
We had a wonderful lunch. Our server Hugo was excellent. We started with a cheese platter. The cheeses and accompaniments were excellent. My husband loved the tuna Niçoise salad. I ordered the chicken pallard which was very good. The desserts were delicious. The wines were quite expensive but it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
We will definitely return!
