Bar Boulud is Chef Daniel Boulud’s bistro and wine bar located across from New York City's Lincoln Center. An exquisite array of housemade charcuterie complements sumptuous French cooking for both lunch and dinner. Bar Boulud offers a 3 course price fixe for lunch for $29 and dinner for $48. Outdoor dining is available on the terrace seasonally. Three private wine-themed dining rooms adjacent to the wine cellar are also available for private events.

Bar Boulud offers three private dining rooms – Vigneron, Sommelier and Caviste – each with a wine-themed décor and access through the restaurant’s wine cellar. The rooms are available for private and business entertaining for up to 65 guests.

Bar Boulud has never failed us yet. The food is consistently excellent and creative, while staying close to its French roots. Dietary restrictions are accommodated, and the service has always been extremely professional and excellent. We usually go pre-performance, and they have always gotten us in good time without feeling rushed through the meal. While not inexpensive, we feel it is an excellent value overall. We always look forward to dining there. The only caveat I would add is that if you want a quieter part of the restaurant, ask to sit in the back
With the exception of our server, who was friendly and attentive, everything about this dinner missed the mark. for the most part, the dishes were fine, just not excellent, which we had expected from a chef of Boloud's reputation. The tartar, a dish every member of our family generally loves, was overly dosed with mustard, and one of the three servings we ordered was served without bread. The coq au vin was lacking flavor of wine infused in the sauce, the baked Alaska included a bizarre crystaline element that ruined the mouth feel of the dish. Based on the meal our party ate, I cannot recommend the restaurant.
Then, when it came time to pay, rather than split the bill between the two cards that were given, the hostess charged one card the full price for the meal, then ran it again for 1/2 the total. We were assured that the error was corrected. Still waiting for it to clear the bank to confirm. For the price paid, I would have expected this to be handled more professionally.
For the first time I ordered "Coquec au Vin".

Undercooked I gave it back and was not even charged for it. That was certainly a gesture to appreciate .
I just hope the almost untouched plate was not put back into its original pot!!
There was a warm welcome from the outset. The waiter was attentive and helpful throughout. The sommelier was very knowledgeable. There was a reasonably priced prix fixe menu. The confit de canard was excellent, as were the moules frites (from the a la carte menu). The appetizers and desserts (we shared the petits fours) were of a similarly high standard. An enjoyable dinner.
The meal was delicious, service outstanding, wine excellent. It was good value for the prix fixe menu for New Year's Eve. The only problem was, despite the restaurant having 3 doors, we were seated near the door and there was a terrible draft every time somebody came into the restaurant. It was a bitter cold evening and my husband had to leave his coat on during the meal because it was cold. The place is lovely and they are doing what they can to control the wind, but it was not working that night.
Great pre-opera dinner on New Year’s Eve. Got there early and it was not crazy crowded yet. The food and champagne were very good. The service was great and the restaurant looked very festive. Added bonus - got to see Daniel Boulud and his entire team take a New Year’s picture - thank you for a great experience!
I have always been a fan of Bar Boulud, along with the other Boulud restos. Having said that, the two-person tables are so small that if you order two or three plates to share and a bottle of wine, you cannot fit everything on the table (I've only sat in booths previously). I ordered the frisee salad, which was good but TINY, and the lobster roll, which was a disgrace. Barely any lobster, heavily dressed (perhaps to disguise lack of freshness?) in a 2-day old brioche bun with SUPER greasy chips (supposed to be Old Bay chips but I couldn't detect the faintest hint of spices through the grease). Utterly disappointing. I have had better lobster rolls from Pret a Manger, and frankly, I think those are disgusting. My friend ordered the soft scrambled eggs with a side of bacon that NEVER CAME. The dessert and the bottle of Cremant de Bourgogne were the best part of our meal. Will not be returning, there are too many good restaurants in the neighborhood (and the city) to eat at places that coast by on their name and have officially stopped trying.
We visited Bar Boulud for the 2nd time. We were staying across the street at the Empire Hotel and remembered really liking the restaurant from our first visit. It did not disappoint. We were pleased again and will return the next time we are in NYC. The only thing that I would have changed was that the lights were too bright in the front of the restaurant where we were sitting and they were not able to dim them. Felt like I was in a hospital operating room. Otherwise, the food is great and the service was attentive. Very good.
I've eaten here a few times, mostly in the summer when we can sit outside. Inside, in the cold weather, it feels crowded with tables very close to each other. The food is good and mostly well priced. My husband and I both had onion soup at $16 each, which, to me, was way over the top. It was good but not that good. And it was served in a very small crock. Mostly it is a great place for dinner across the street from Lincoln Center - less than 3 minutes to cross the street.
Food was excellent as usual. Unfortunately we could not get a table we pre-requested and hoped in the middle section of the restaurant, due to the number of diners, that is two. The space we dined was congested, too close to neighboring tables and we could not talk private matters.
Bar Boulud was just the ticket for an afternoon meal before checking out Rockefeller Center and Saks near the holidays. The salmon was cooked to my specifications, and my sister was happy with her trout. The cream of mushroom soup was very flavorful, and I loved my mixed greens salad. The mini dessert with the three course lunch was a pear crumb cake with vanilla icecream - the icecream was quite tasty! A little sancerre for me, and a scotch for my sister and we warmed up quickly from the very brisk day! I will be back!
Day trip to the city for the holidays and wanted French bistro cuisine for lunch. Great location and wasn’t too busy which was great. Service was attentive. Had the French onion soup which was fantastic. The croque monsieur was very rich and balanced. We also had madeleines to finish off our lunch which were light and lemony. Obviously, a bit pricey for lunch, but it was a treat for the holidays and NYC prices are up there in general. Definitely a place to try if you enjoy pate and charcuterie, the menu was full of those options.
