About Bar Amis
Bar Amis, the newest concept from Vetri Family of Restaurants, will open in Philadelphia’s Navy Yard this month, offering a lively, yet laidback environment inspired by the beloved Amis Trattoria. The space, which formerly housed Vetri Family Restaurant Lo Spiedo, is helmed by longtime Executive Chef Brad Spence. Guests will recognize the spirit of Italian home cooking that has come to define the Amis brand, presented in a more casual format at the Navy Yard. Offerings will include rustic and seasonally-driven small plates and salads, elevated sandwiches and robust dishes, with a focus on simplicity. The restaurant’s beverage program will feature expertly-blended and specialty cocktails like frosé, and diverse beer and wine offerings, plus a homemade non-alcoholic selections.

Bar Amis Ratings and Reviews
Bar Amis is (sadly) terrible. This was our third attempt and unfortunately, it has gotten progressively worse each time. When it comes to the food, they completely missed the bar. The first visit was just after they opened so I chalked the poor food quality up to working out kinks. The second visit provided food that was worse than the first visit but the outdoor seating area is quite pleasant. Over time I've had the following:
-Brussel sprouts: ask for extra water - way too salty.
-Avocado toast: very small with very little avocado
-Nachos: Unconventional, not tasty, not worth it.
-Mussels: I wish I would have read other reviews referencing the mussels before ordering. The bread was so salty it was uneatable. But it didn't really matter because the broth was bad too.
-Rigatoni bolognese: Decent flavor, pasta overcooked mush
-Lemon chicken: small, overpriced and dry.
They maintain the same cocktails, beer, and wine list.
I would NOT recommend Bar Amis. It really is a bummer because their location is great, the vibe is nice and their outdoor area is great too. But overall, their food is really bad and overpriced, and the service is mediocare.
We dropped our kids off at a sixers game and were looking fora spot to eat and get a drink. I have enjoyed the other Vetri restaurants so I figured this place would be good. Atmosphere was nice and I’m sure in the spring summer early fall the outside would be great. My disappointment came from the food. We ordered a fig ricotta cheese dish and a melted Parmesan cheese dish. The fig dish was good but had a strange smell, we ate it anyway. Lol. The Parmesan was a very small amount of melted cheese in a ramekin with Cecii that were hard dry and undercooked.
I ordered the bucatini that was so strange. I thought it would be reminiscent of a pesto since that’s how they described it but it had peanut butter in it and was just plain weird. Half Chinese ? And the pasta was totally undercooked. They missed al dente by 2 minutes, my husband got the grilled octopus which was very tender however they paired it with crushed kalamata olives which over powered and ruined the flavor of the octopus. Too bad. I wanted to like it. And I know they are no longer affiliated with Vetri but since there is a connection they need to get it right or more people will be disappointed.

The meatball hoagie...only 2 of 4 meatballs had any sauce...two were dry and again bread was burnt and not in a good way.
Won’t be going back
Made a reservation for a special occasion about 3 weeks prior for 12:30. When we arrived (10 min late - I tried to call but was put and left on hold) we had to wait for them to set up a table. So much for making a reservation so that they are ready for us! We were 5 and they squeezed us at a table for 4 with one person hanging in the aisle. There were numerous other tables to seat us where we would be at three tables instead of two and fit more comfortably. We asked them to move us, they did. We ordered an appetizer and lunch. Lunch came out first. I told them to forget the app since our lunch was already out. She brings it anyway and I told her we didn't want it. She says, no, have it. My sister-in-law was the last one to finish and the waitress cleared the table reaching over her while she ate with no apology at all. Lingering there for a few minutes cleaning up. Very unprofessional. Check comes and they were charging us for the app. I told her they need to take it off as it came late. She talks with her manager, comes over and slaps the bill back down and says it's on me. Terrible attitude. Will never return here again. Service is a very big part of a good dining experience. This was not one!
I was disappointed. While our maître d' was friendly, the service was very spotty -- slow to show up for taking drink and then food orders, bringing a cheeseburger without the requested add-ons (and then taking the served dish back to the kitchen to add them causing the burger ultimately to be cooler than normal when it re-arrived), disappearing when it was time for our check. Our small plates were quite good (roasted beets with yogurt, fresh ricotta with fig jam toasts) but the sandwiches (meatball, cheeseburger with avocado and bacon) were merely adequate and the dessert -- described as chocolate rice pudding with fig -- was rather odd, having very little rice and more like a thin chocolate mousse with peanuts and fig. In addition, when we asked for our cheeseburger to be served medium rare, we were told that, while the waiter could ask, it might not be possible since they normally served them medium-well. (It arrived medium-well.) Just all-around not up to the standards that I had expected.
Bar Amis- is Bar a Miss. Food was terrible. Popcorn was the only edible dish that we had..Sals meatball sandwich was terrible. No flavor- roll was the best part. Cauliflower au gratin was cold and tasted like glue. Service was great. Sad that this place is so close to Wells Fargo Center and has such bad food
We love Bar Amis! We have been there several times. The brussel sprouts and wings are the best. Atmosphere is fun! Service has always been great. We would definitely recommend to anyone when in the area. Great location for a pre or post game meal since it is so close to the stadium areas.
Went before the sixers home opener and they seemed overwhelmed by the crowd. We sat in the bar. One bartender behind the bar and one out serving and making drinks and getting food. Food came out cold and under cooked. Not a good experience considering it’s a Vetri restaurant.
This is a decent restaurant, but it's probably the 'outlet' version of Amis Trattoria. The best thing going for Bar Amis is that it's located at The Navy Yard section of Philly, so there's available (and free) parking. It's probably a good place to eat if you're attending a sporting event as you're basically a stone's throw from the sports complexes in south Philly. Don't go to Bar Amis if you are expecting ambiance, there is NONE. I've eaten in dinners with more atmosphere. My generously portioned steak was cooked to order but had plenty of gristle. My friends' meals were claimed to be good.
Outside location was excellent with view of ships. Always felt need for speed by server. Food was brought out quickly, good, but obviously was ready and waiting hot to start. for some things like meatballs ok, for others like pork chop very bad. Nothing we got was great. but would probably go back for ambiance, just careful with choices.
Disappointed in Bar Amis. The food was mediocre. The entire experience was sub par compared to other Vetri restaurants. From the food cold, not well cooked-chicken was raw, food being topped with blue cheese with ingredient not being listed on menu, to the overly smoothering server. Stick to the regular Amis on Pine Street!
I selected this establishment due to its convenient location to our new office facility. I was entertaining an out of town guest for a business dinner. The environment was a bit more casual than I had anticipated for this occasion. Its a nice place for a casual meal or a drink with friends. Dining outside was a little challenging due to the overhead noise from the planes
Unfortunately, Bar Amia does not match its predecessor, Lo Spiedo, in terms of food quality, drinks, or service. Going to a Vetri restaurant once was a near guarantee of a good dining experience. Sadly that is no longer the case, but Bar Amis falls well below even Vetri's current norm.
We sat outside to enjoy the weather, and experience the ambiance of the old Navy Yard. Ordered a round of gin and tonics to start. It is tough to serve a bad GT, but Bar Amis succeeded. The drinks were nearly tasteless. We suspected that soda water was used instead of tonic water. The gin was unidentifiable- clearly not a gin and tonic mainstay like Tanqueray or Beefeaters nor any of the better labels. Actually, it might as well have been vodka, so muted was the flavor. Even the lime which was a dessicated ("preserved") hard little brown ring failed to impart any taste to the drink.
The food was passable, but nothing special. The octopus was a tentacle, nicely grilled and tender, but bland and tasteless. The pork chop, which was described by our server as the chef's signature dish, was passable, but nothing special. The best entree we had was a a pasta -- buccatini with almonds and peppers.
The waiter was adequate, but less attentive than we would have liked. When our dinners came we had hoped to be offered wine, but with the server missing in action we had to ask the busser to find him. He offered a house sauvignon blanc, and when asked what it was (meaning the label, not the color) he replied that it was a white wine, "like pinot grigio." When I questioned that comparison, he insisted that "the finish is the same."
Craig LeBan said that Bar Amis is trying to cultivate an evening business, attracting people from Center City, after the Navy Yard employees finish their lunch, happy hour, and go home. With all the better choices available to them, I suspect that few will want to make the trip down broad street for Bar Amis.
My wife and I went there before a recent Tom Petty Concert. Overall the food and service good and atmosphere was fresh. I would recommend it as a place away from Xfinity Live and all the crowds during events at the sport s complex. However, two things I think are lacking. First they need to add a few more items to the menus. Very limited selection. Second, I would have some specials available that are wrapped around specials events, like concerts. We will be going to another concert in a month or so with another couple but probably won't hit this place because of the limited menu. Still a good place to eat and have drinks.
